This master's thesis examines the rise and fall of Indian football over three periods: the "Golden Era" from 1950-1964 when India experienced success in international competitions; the "Lost Decades" from 1965-1991 when performance declined; and the "New Beginning" from 1992-present marked by improved results but ongoing challenges. The document outlines factors that have stunted the growth of the sport in India like a lack of investment, unstable structures, and regional dominance. However, it argues that increased sponsorship and proposed reforms could lead to a brighter future for football in India if the large untapped market potential is realized.

For too long has the Indian economy been
ignored as a market to be invested in &
monetized, the lack of talent & interest being the
expressed and obvious reasons but the 21st
century has brought with it the much anticipated
and desperately needed change with increased
and rapid rise in interest in the sport that once
brought glory to this mighty economy, Investment
in the sport is on the rise with the incentive to
commercialize and position brands in a 1.4 billion
strong economy attracting worldwide interests.
