5. IMPACT ON WEB DESIGN
Having a mobile site in 2014 is a necessity for any business, putting an
emphasis on web design capabilities.
Site performance
Image optimization
Layout optimization via responsive design
Minimizing barriers to purchase and login
Using a mobile device’s capabilities to provide a better shopping
experience
6. TOOLS TO GO MOBILE
Creating a mobile version of your website has never been easier. There are
many tools available that you can do yourself. Here are a few examples that
can be added to your current site with the use of Google Analytics:
8. Nokia, a mobile phone retailer, does not have a mobile site.
The links on the site are unreadable on any smartphone making content
navigation impossible. Since most web browsing is done on mobile devices
this is a huge mistake for Nokia .
They also offer an unreadable usability survey for user feedback leaving
one to assume they are not concerned at all about their user experience.
A poor design such as this was not created with the consumer in mind.
9. Jeep did not create a separate mobile version of their site, they simply used their
desktop site.
They failed to resize their images and text leaving only part of the photos and
words to be seen on a small screen.
The mobile site does not offer any features of most car dealer sites such as color
swaps and 360 degree angles of the vehicles.
The content merely a long, heavy text description with the ability to check local
offers and inventory.
11. Shop millions of products wherever you go
Browse, search, get product details, and read reviews on millions of products
available from Amazon.com and other merchants
Take advantage of 1-Click ordering, Prime member support, Subscribe & Save, Wish
Lists, order tracking, and more
Compare prices and check availability instantly by scanning a barcode, snapping a
picture, or typing your search
Get instant access to Gold Box Deals--including Deal of the Day and Lightning
Deals
Buy with confidence, knowing that all transactions are securely processed

13. CREATE A SUCCESSFUL
MOBILE SITE
Define your need for a mobile site

Single-Column layouts usually work best for most sites

Turn your desktop site from “Click” to “Tap”
Provide interaction feedback
Mobile internet traffic has significantly increased in the past year and will continue to rise making desktop browsing a thing of the past.
There is no question that most web browsers prefer using mobile devices for all their internet needs.
This chart shows sales of mobile and tablet devices and estimates for the next two years.
The rise in mobile browsing has changed the need for successful web design mostly because separate mobile sites must be created for small screens and usability.
There are many free tools available to assist in creating, designing and even hosting your mobile site or app.
Nokia and Jeep are two examples of bad mobile sites. What they have in common they both failed to create a separate mobile site for users.
Nokia being a mobile retailer is no doubt taking a huge hit in sales for not producing a mobile site that allows users to purchase their products.
Jeep’s poor design in the desktop version of their site was carried over to the mobile site which no doubt only frustrates users forcing them to browse other car company sites.
TARGET.COM and AMAZON.COM are excellent examples of mobile sites that offer every feature of the full site. From your mobile device, you can shop, ship and even do returns.
Amazon.com has done an excellent job of producing their site. They always think of everything and more for optimal user experience.
Target.com has also done a great job with their site. They have even added coupon clippings to their mobile site that can be scanned at the register. No more printing and cutting coupons and then forgetting to hand them to the cashier.
The most important thing is to create a separate mobile site for optimal user experience.
These five points should be kept in mind when designing a mobile site centered around users needs.
