PURPOSE OF THE BOOK
 The Book “Turning Points– A Journey Through
Challenges“ takes up the incredible Kalam story
from where Wings of Fire left off
 It brings together details from his career and
presidency that are not generally known as he
speaks out for the first time on certain points of
controversies
 It offers insight not only into an extraordinary
personality but also a vision of how a country with
a great heritage can become great in
accomplishment, skills and abilities, through
effort, perseverance and confidence
11/5/2017 7
Purpose of The Book
 Mr. Kalam gives us insight about why he chose to
become the President of India in 2002
 The reason he chose to say yes when Vajpayee
asked him to become President was to realize his
‘India 2020’ dream by putting forward his vision
before the nation and the Parliament. Vision 2020
– that grand vision for India to make it a
developed nation by 2020 – is what Kalam
breathes and tries to inspire youth to strive
towards achieving this goal
11/5/2017 8
ABOUT THE BOOK
 ‘Turning Points’ is a more of a blueprint for
making India a developed country by 2020
 Suggesting measures to make Judiciary,
Parliament, and Executive more efficient in their
functioning and all suggestions are in ‘points’
 The book have been divided in to 14 chapters
 As his book named , “Turning Points– A Journey
Through Challenges“ he has discussed about
seven turning points of his life in the 3rd chapter
of the book.

Director, DRDL(Defence Research And

 6th T.P.: Appointed as Professor of Technology in
Anna University
 7th T.P. : Not to be candidate of presidency for
second term in 2012
11/5/2017 11
ABOUT THE BOOK
 To illustrate how he tries to make his point
about use of technology(one of pillars of
development) in speeding up decisions, he talks
about dissolution of Bihar assembly in 2005 which
he did from Moscow at the insistence of PM Dr
Manmohan Singh through an e-mail!
 “Very few people in the country are using e-
governance, which I consider a tool for a
borderless world. It is a facility I use liberally in
India and abroad….” !
11/5/2017 12
PERSONAL OPINION ABOUT
THE BOOK
 He calls Indira Gandhi ‘great stateswoman’; Dr
Singh, ‘architect of economic reforms’ with an
‘impeccable image’ and in this way tries to be nice
to every political leader he has met in his life
 ‘Turning Points’ dwells less on turning points, but
more on other ‘points’. His humility is evident
throughout the book and he has made every
effort to avoid any controversy that might arise
from any revelations. Nonetheless, book is
simple and very ‘inspirational’
11/5/2017 13
PERSONAL OPINION ABOUT THE
BOOK
 Kalam hopes that his book would be
inspirational to its readers. But, the book would
have been more inspirational if it had revealed
more about his life rather than his vision which is
already known to those who have read his earlier
books
11/5/2017 14
CONCLUSION
 POEM BY DR. KALAM-
Where there is righteousness in the heart
There is beauty in the character.
When there is beauty in the character,
There is harmony in the home.
When there is harmony in the home,
There is an order in the nation.
When there is an order in the nation.
There is peace in the world.
