3. What is Recycling?
Recycling is the process by which
waste materials are diverted from the
waste stream, sorted and used to
produce new products. Manufacturing
new products using recycled materials
requires far less energy, water and
resources than using virgin materials.
(Clean up 2013)
4. Why should we Recycle?
Recycling Saves the Earth
Recycling different products will help
the environment. For example, we
know that paper comes from trees
and many trees are being cut down
just to produce paper. By recycling it,
we can help lessen the number of
trees that are cut down. Products
made from raw materials that came
from our natural resources should be
recycled so that we can help preserve
the environment. ( Benefits of Recycling 2013)
5. The benefits of Recycling
• Some of the greatest
environmental benefits of
recycling are in the conservation
of energy and natural resources
and the prevention of pollution
when recycled material, rather
than raw material, is used to
make a new product.
Manufacturing materials the
second time around is much
cleaner and less energy
intensive than when using raw
materials. (Sustainability
Victoria 2013)
