同樣,當你要把一個行爲程序養成習慣時,就要讓那個程序越方便執行越好。舉例來說,如果你想養成每天早起就先運動的習慣,那就應該前一天晚上準備好運動的衣物,放在床邊,一早起來就可以立刻穿好運動衣,不需要再打開抽屜去找,因爲如果你還要花時間找,睡眼惺忪的你搞不好就會找著找著,找回棉被裏了。我把這個稱爲“清空跑道”(clear the path),把任何可能導致分心的障礙都儘量排除。
最近,我看到一段很動人的演說,是美國海軍上將威廉·麥克萊文(William H. McRaven)2014年在德州大學奧斯丁分校畢業典禮上的致辭。上將給學生們的第一個建言,就是“每天早上鋪好自己的床”,原因有三:
其一,你一早就已經完成了一件該做的事。
其二,完成這件小事情會給你一點點成就感,雖然微小,但會讓你更願意好好完成下一件事,再下一件事。
其三,整理好床鋪這個行爲,提醒你小事情都很重要。如果小事做不好,那大事就根本免談。
而且,萬一你有一天過得很糟糕,回家時,看到的是一個整齊的床鋪,而且還是你自己收拾好的床鋪,這也會給你帶來一點鼓勵,讓你覺得明天會更好。

Wendy Wood is a UK-born psychologist who is the Provost Professor of Psychology and Business at University of Southern California, where she has been a faculty member since 2009. She is also the Distinguished Visiting Professor at INSEAD Business School in Paris. She previously served as vice dean of social sciences at the Dornsife College of the University of Southern California. Her primary research contributions are in habits and behavior change along with the psychology of gender.
She is the author of the popular science book, Good Habits, Bad Habits, released in October 2019. This book was featured in the Next Big Idea Club and was reviewed in the New Yorker.

Visual cue is an academic term used in cognitive psychology.
In 1993, a small bank in Abbotsford, Canada hired a 23-year-old stock broker named Trent Dyrsmid.
