1. How to drench
a sheep or goat
DRENCHING
Administering a drug in liquid
form orally to an animal. It
is the recommended way to
deworm a sheep or goat.
1) Use drench gun or oral
dosing syringe with
long metal nozzle.
2) Make sure nozzle is smooth
and appropriate size for
animal.
3) Pressure check and
calibrate drench gun
(syringe) before use.
4) Weigh animals to make
sure weight estimations
are accurate and proper
dose will be given.
5) Properly restrain animal.
6) Hold chin at as natural an
angle as possible
7) Gently place the nozzle
into the corner of the
mouth (between incisors
and molars) to deliver
drench over back of tongue.
8) Squeeze gently.
9) Watch that animal
swallows drug.
