Free publicity is one of the best ways to get exposure for your business. To attract the media, there are several things that should be implemented to get the media to notice you.
2. Be
Newsworthy
Be Newsworthy. Is there anything happening in your business that you can tie to recent
events? If so, share it with the media through a press release. If opportunity doesn’t
knock, create a door -- If there’s nothing happening in your company that you can tie to
a recent news event, create a story that is newsworthy and tell the world about it.
3. Press Releases
Include press releases in your marketing campaign on a regular basis. The key to
gaining expert and celebrity status is to keep you and your company in front of the
media consistently which results in obtaining maximum exposure.
4. A Memorable
Domain Name
Have a memorable domain name. Make it easy for potential customers to find you and
learn more about your product or service and share the information with their friends. If
they can’t remember your website name you’re making it difficult for them to reach you.
5. Website
Media Room
Develop a website that makes it easy for the media to find out more about you. Create a
media room that includes such information as your biography, photos, speaking topics
and other media coverage you’ve received. Your website media room is your digital
promotional business card.
6. Professional
Photo
Make a small investment to have a professional photo taken and include it in your
website media room and on your About page. Your media room should include at least
one or two high resolution photos available for the media to download when needed. It
should be a part of your professional brand.
7. Professional
Email
Address
Use a professional email address when promoting your business and dealing with the
media. Personal email addresses don’t represent who you are as a business owner.
Similar to your website name, your email address should also represent your brand.
8. Promote
Promote without “selling”. The main purpose of a media interview is to share useful
information with their audience. The key to a successful media interview is knowing how
to provide useful information to the audience while also promoting your product or
service.

Selling
9. Know
Your
Message
Thoroughly know your message. The best way to get asked back for a second
interview is by developing key messages and being thoroughly prepared. Anticipate
questions that may be asked and then develop answers for them. Be prepared for
whatever comes your way.
10. Business
Video
Profile
One of the most powerful and cost-effective ways to step out and be noticed is to create
a business video profile. It’s not enough to be great or even the very best in your field
if you aren’t seen and no one knows about you. A video profile can open up unlimited
opportunities for your business.
11. Keep In
Touch
Keep In Touch. The best relationships are the ones that continue. Just because you’ve
been featured on a news or talk show, doesn’t mean it ends there. Make the most of your
media connections and follow up with them. Send a thank you note after an
interview. They’ll appreciate being remembered.
