Case Study
ARESâGoing the Distance
The Challenge
In January 2010, theDevelopment ServicesBranch of Accommodation and Real EstateServices
(ARES) for theProvinceof British Columbiacontacted NECI to inquireabout itspopular course:
How to Avoid Indecent Proposals. ey had heard great thingsabout thecourse, and wanted to
deliver it to sta in Victoriaand Kelowna. Unfortunately, therewasarecent mandateimposed on
all trainingbudgetswhich restricted travel. Asaresult, it appeared that they could only a ord to
train oneof thegroupsthat year.
NECIâsResponse
In order to accommodatethetravel and budgetary challengesfaced by theDevelopment Services
Branch, NECI adapted thecoursein such away that allowed an in-person, classroom session for
theVictoriagroup, and avirtual conferenceinto that session for theteam in Kelowna.
Proven Value
By enablingtheKelownateam to attend theVictoriasession from thecomfort of their own
boardroom, both teamswereableto participatein thesession equally. ismeant consistent
trainingacrossboth teams, and themaximization of reduced trainingbudgets. NECIâs exible
approach to each new engagement wasdemonstrated in thiscaseby not only adjustingto
accommodategeographically dispersed teams, but also through their useof theclientâsin-house
conferencingso ware. Usingtoolsthat werefamiliar to both teamsallowed participantsto feel
comfortableand allowed them to focuson learning.
âIt isour goal to eliminatetrainingbarriersby exingand adaptingto meet our clientsâ unique
needs. Wewerepleased that wewereableto nd asolution for theARESDevelopment Services
Branch so that morepeoplecould participatein training, and ultimately increasevalueto their
businessâ, shared NECI President, Maureen Sullivan.
