Almost 11 years ago the Dutch investigative reporter Teun (Tony) launched
an investigation about the use of slavery within the cocoa industry. He was
literally shocked to discover that most of the chocolate on supermarket
shelves was harvested by slaves - worse, by child slaves. He decided to do
something about it. Tony’s Chocolonely’s vision is 100% slave free
chocolate. Not just their chocolate, but all chocolate worldwide. 	

With incredibly tasty chocolate, with a very strong story,
they lead by example and show the world chocolate can
be made differently: in taste, packaging and the way they

  the

  discarded.	
  
Their	
  proposal	
  won	
  the	
  “Best	
  Idea	
  of	
  Young	
  Ahold”	
  and	
  InStock	
  was	
  created	
  
as	
  a	
  pop-­‐up	
  restaurant.	
  A?er	
  a	
  successful	
  trial	
  period,	
  InStock	
  now	
  has	
  a	
  
permanent	
  home	
  in	
  Amsterdam.	
  On	
  a	
  daily	
  basis,	
  fruits,	
  vegetables	
  and	
  
bread	
  are	
  picked	
  up	
  from	
  Albert	
  Heijn	
  stores	
  using	
  an	
  electric	
  minivan,	
  
making	
  transport	
  of	
  the	
  food	
  as	
  sustainable.	
  A	
  few	
  other	
  suppliers	
  provide	
  
meat,	
  fish,	
  chocolate	
  and	
  beer	
  that	
  would	
  otherwise	
  be	
  discarded.	
  Then	
  the	
  
chefs	
  are	
  tasked	
  with	
  crea4ng	
  delicious	
  meals	
  based	
  on	
  this	
  “daily	
  harvest”,

InStock  is  an  ini4a4ve  that  addresses  food  waste  challenges  in  an  innova4ve   and  entrepreneurial  way.  Four  young  people  who  were  previously  working   for  Albert  Heijn  and  its  mother  company  Ahold,  came  up  with  the  idea  of   opening  a  restaurant  serving  the  food  that  would  otherwise  be  discarded.   Their  proposal  won  the  “Best  Idea  of  Young  Ahold”  and  InStock  was  created   as  a  pop-­‐up  restaurant.  A?er  a  successful  trial  period,  InStock  now  has  a   permanent  home  in  Amsterdam.  On  a  daily  basis,  fruits,  vegetables  and   bread  are  picked  up  from  Albert  Heijn  stores  using  an  electric  minivan,   making  transport  of  the  food  as  sustainable.  A  few  other  suppliers  provide   meat,  fish,  chocolate  and  beer  that  would  otherwise  be  discarded.  Then  the   chefs  are  tasked  with  crea4ng  delicious  meals  based  on  this  “daily  harvest”,   which  they  accomplish  every  4me.  In  this  way,  Instock  turns  food   surplus  into  delicious  meals,  day  by  day.
