INTRODUCTION
Customer satisfaction depends on the products perceived performance
relative to the buyer’s expectations. If the productperformance falls short of
expectation, the customer is dissatisfied. If performance matches expectations; the
customer is highly satisfied or delighted. Outstanding marketing companies go out
of the way to keep their customer satisfied. Satisfied customers make repeat
purchases and tell others about their good experiences with the product. The key is
to match customer expectations with company performance. Smart companies aim
to delight customers by promising only what they can deliver, then delivering more
than they promise. The American Customer Satisfaction Index, which tracks
customer satisfaction in more than two dozen U.S. manufacturing and service
industries, shows that overall customer satisfaction has been declining slightly in
recent 18 years. It is unclear whether this has resulted from a decrease in product
and service quality or from an increase in customer expectations. In either case, it
presents an opportunity for companies that can consistently deliver superior
customer value and satisfaction. However, although the customer centered firm
seeks to deliver high customer satisfaction relative to competitors, it doesn’t
attempt to maximize customer satisfaction. A company can always increase
customer satisfaction by lowering its price or increasing its services but this may
result lower profits. Thus, the purposeof marketing is to generate customer value
profitably. This requires a very delicate balance. The marketer must continue to
generate more customer and satisfaction but not “give away the house”.
12. 12
IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY
The modern marketing management tries to solve the basic problems of consumers
in the area of consumption. To survive in the market, a firm has to be constantly
innovating and understand the latest consumer needs and tastes. It will be
extremely useful in exploiting marketing opportunities and in meeting the
challenges that the Indian market offers. It is important for the marketers to
understand the buyer behavior due to the following reasons.
1. The study of consumer behavior for any productis of vital importance to
marketers in shaping the fortunes of their organization.
2. It is significant for regulating consumption of goods and thereby maintaining
economic stability.
3. It is useful in developing ways for the more efficient utilization of resources
of marketing. It also helps in solving marketing management problems in
more effective manner.
4. Todayconsumers give more importance on environment friendly products.
They are concerned about health, hygiene and fitness. They prefer natural
products. Hence detailed study on upcoming groups of consumers is essential
for any firm.
5. The growth of consumer protection movement has created an urgent need to
understand how consumers make their consumption and buying decision.
6. Consumers’ tastes and preferences are ever changing. Study of consumer
behavior gives information regarding color, design, size etc. which consumers
want. In short, consumer behavior helps in formulating of production policy.
7. For effective market segmentation and target marketing, it is essential to have
an understanding of consumers and their behavior.

JOB SATISFACTION
Job satisfaction is another important technique used to motivate the employees to
work harder. It hard often been said that “A HAPPY EMPLOYMENT IS A
PRODUCTIVE EMPLOYEE.” A happy employee is generally, that employee who
is satisfied with his job. Job satisfaction is very important because most of the
people spend a major portion of their life at their working place. Moreover, job
satisfaction has its impact on the general life of employees also, because a
satisfaction has its impact on the general life of the employees also, because a
satisfied employee is a contented and happy human being. A highly satisfied
worker has better physical and mental well being .Though it is a debatable point as
to which one is the cause and which is the effect , but these are correlated to each
other.
In simple words, job satisfaction can be defined as the extents of
positive feeling or attitudes that individual have towards their jobs. When a person
says that he has high job satisfaction, it means that he really likes his job, feels
good about it and values his job highly. The conceptof job satisfaction has been
developed in many ways by many different researchers and practitioners. One of
the most widely used definitions in organizational research is that of Locke (1976),
who defines job satisfaction as "a pleasurable or positive emotional state resulting
from the appraisal of one's job or job experiences"
A more recent definition of the conceptof job satisfaction is from
Hulling and Judge (2003), who have noted that job satisfaction includes
multidimensional psychological responses to an individual's job, and that these
personal responses have cognitive affective and behavioral components.
According to Keith Davis and Newsroom, “Job satisfaction is the set of favorable
or unfavorable feeling with which employees view their work”
According to Feldman and Arnold, “Job satisfaction will be defined as the amount
of overall positive affect or that individuals have towards their job.”
14. 14
There are three importance dimension of job satisfaction
1. Job satisfaction cannot be seeing, it can only be inferred. It relates to ones
feelings towards one job.
2. Job satisfaction is often determined by how outcome will meet the expectations.
3. Job satisfaction and job attitudes are typically used inter changeably. Positive
attitude towards the jobs are conceptually equivalent to job satisfaction and
negative attitude towards the job indicate job dissatisfaction.
Job satisfaction is a specific subset of attitudes.
Attitudes reflect ones feeling towards individual organization and objects. But
satisfaction refers to ones attitude towards a job. Thus manager needs to pay
attention to job satisfaction constantly.

ORGIN AND HISTORY OF FURNITURE
Furniture has been a part of the human experience since the
developmentof non-nomadic cultures. Furniture is the mass noun for the
movable objects intended to supportvarious human activities such as
seating (e.g., chairs, stools and sofas)and sleeping (e.g., beds).Furniture
is also used to hold objects at a convenient height for work (as horizontal
surfaces above the ground, such as tables and desks), or to store things
(e.g., cupboards and shelves).
Furniture can be a productof designand
is considereda form of decorative art. In addition to furniture's functional
role, it can serve a symbolic or religious purpose. It can be made from
many materials, including metal, plastic, and wood. Furniture can be made
using a variety of woodworking joints which often reflectthe local culture.
Archeologicalresearchshows that Neolithic people
used stone to build cupboards, dressers, beds, shelves and seats. Ancient
furniturefrom the 8th-century BC includes tables and serving stands. The
furniture of the middle Ages was usually heavy, oak, and ornamented.
Furniture designexpanded during the Italian Renaissance of the fourteenth
and fifteenth century. The seventeenth century, in both Southern and
Northern Europe, was characterized by opulent, often
gilded Baroque designs.
The nineteenth century is usually defined by revival
styles. The first three-quarters of the twentieth century are oftenseen as
the march towards Modernism. One unique outgrowth of post-modern
furniture designis a return to natural shapes and textures.

MATERIAL IS USED FORMAKING FURNITURE
India is one among the major rubber growing countries in the world. Kerala state
with an equable climate, accounts more than 90% of India’s rubber plantation.
Now we only 1.2million m3 rubber wood is available in the market every year. As
rubber wood is available in plenty at comparatively low cost, rubber plantation
have become a major sourceof timber supply in the Kerala
Product packing
Deliveries fromdeveloping countries generally have a long distance to go before
reaching their destinations; therefore it is very importantthat close attention is
paid to seaworthy and sold packaging. Furnitureitem can easily we damaged in
transited by dampness or mishandling and must therefore be packed carefully
and securely.
In the case of RTA furniture, the packaging is extremely important becauselarge
quantities are usually involved and buyers wantto be able to transfer woods from
the portof destination straight in to the retailed outlet In the mostcase, there
should be no need for buyers to repairer or to change the factory packing
22. 22
GLOBEL SCENARIO
Furniturehas been traditionally a resources and labor intensive industry with
equal importance of craftbased firms and large volumeproducing industry. The
reason advent of knock down category and ready to assembleof flat pack
products in the industry have paved the way for new designed, manufactures and
ship the products for domestic as well as export market the productmention here

this are the furniture pieces which could be assembled at the end of consumers
and can be stored at limited spaceat retailers of distributors space. Thematerial

A Small Sample of Furniture around the World
Asian history
Asian furniture has a quite distinct history. The traditions out
of India, China, Pakistan, Indonesia(Bali and Java) and Japan are some of
the best known, but places such as Korea, Mongolia, and the countries
of South East Asia have unique facets of their own.
The use of uncared wood and bamboo and the use of heavy lacquers are
well known Chinese styles. It is worth noting that Chinese furniture varies
dramatically from one dynasty to the next.
Traditional Japanese furniture is well known for its minimalist style,
extensive use of wood, high-quality craftsmanship and reliance on wood
grain instead of painting or thick lacquer. Japanese chests are known
23. 23
as Tans, known for elaborate decorative iron work, and are some of the
most sought-after of Japanese antiques. The antiques available generally
date back to the Tokugawa era and Meiji era.
Early North American
This design was in many ways rooted in necessityand emphasizes both
form and materials. Early American chairs and tables are often constructed
with turned spindles and chair backs often constructed with steaming to
bend the wood. Wood choicestend to be deciduous hardwoods with a
particular emphasis on the wood of edible or fruit bearing trees such as
Cherry or Walnut.
Early modern Europe
The furniture of the middle Ages was usually heavy, oak, and ornamented
with carved designs.Along with the other arts, the Italian Renaissance of
the fourteenth and fifteenthcentury marked a rebirth in design, often
inspired by the Greco-Romantradition. A similar explosionof designand
renaissance of culture in general, occurred in Northern Europe, starting in
the fifteenth century. The seventeenth century, in both Southern and
Northern Europe, was characterized by opulent, often
gilded Baroque designs that frequently incorporated a profusionof vegetal
and scrolling ornament. Starting in the eighteenth century, furniture designs
began to develop more rapidly. Although there were some styles that
belonged primarily to one nation, such as Palladianism in Great Britain or in
French, others, such as the Rococo and Neoclassicism were perpetuated
throughout WesternEurope.
24. 24
