Who was Jezebel (1 Kgs. 16:30-31; 18:4,19; 22:25-26; 2 Kgs. 9:22)? What are some examples of modern-day Jezebel’s in the church? What will be the results for her and for those who follow her if she continues in her lack of repentance? What lesson can we learn from this? What are some possible meanings to the phrase, “the deep things of Satan”? Give some examples of occultic beliefs and practices in "Christian" churches.

works, love, service, faith, and your
patience; and as for your works, the last
are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I
have a few things against you,
14. because you allow that woman Jezebel,
who calls herself a prophetess, to teach
and seduce My servants to commit sexual
immorality and eat things sacrificed to
idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of
her sexual immorality, and she did not
repent.
15. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and
those who commit adultery with her into
great tribulation, unless they repent of
their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with
death, and all the churches shall know
that I am He who searches the minds and
hearts. And I will give to each one of you
according to your works.
16. 24 “Now to you I say, and to the rest in
Thyatira, as many as do not have this
doctrine, who have not known the depths
of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no
other burden. 25 But hold fast what you
have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes,
and keeps My works until the end, to him I
will give power over the nations— 27 ‘He
shall rule them with a rod of iron;
17. they shall be dashed to pieces like the
potter’s vessels’— as I also have received
from My Father; 28 and I will give him the
morning star. 29 “He who has an ear, let
him hear what the Spirit says to the
churches.” ’

herself a prophetess, to teach…

24. David Berg gave birth to the
Children of God cult (also known
as “the Family”), which practiced
rampant sexual immorality. He
and his followers advocated a
technique called “flirty fishing”
where their members would
entice non-members into the cult
by having sex with them. They
sometimes referred to these
people as “hookers for Jesus”.
When allegations of sexual child
abuse surfaced, the cult dwindled
in size and Berg’s son committed
suicide.

the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they
sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do
not want you to have fellowship with demons.

33. Revelation 2:29 “He who has an ear,

606 AD Sabinian, the bishop of Rome dies and is replaced by Boniface III. Phocas writes to the new bishop of Rome, Boniface III and through imperial decree of the Roman government, proclaims Boniface III, as the "Head of all the Churches" and "Universal Bishop". Phocas transfers the title from Constantinople to Rome. Boniface III, Bishop of Rome takes title: "universal Bishop": Catholicism is formally born in its final evolved form but the east never accepts Rome's claims and finally split fellowship with Rome in 1054 AD.
Before 1974, there was a huge portion of land in the northern part of Australia that belonged to the superstitious Aborigines. That land was covered w/ green ants. The Aborigines believed that those green ants were sacred / descendants of their pagan gods.
A mining company discovered huge deposits of uranium in that land. So they approached the Aborigines about purchasing that land and mining the uranium…but they would not budge: “If you destroy the land of our sacred green ants, our gods will pronounce a curse upon us, and we will have years of drought and famine.
Well, in 1974, they sold that land to the mining companies. Do you know what changed their minds? 8.3 million dollars! “They may be gods, but for 8.3 million they can find another place to live!”
Three Characteristics of Thyatira
A Progressing Church – in four areas: they were progressing
A Problem Church – All was not well. The first problem that we see is the tolerance of sin: permitted Jezebel to teach & lack of repentence
A Precarious Church

Title appears 49 times in the NT. The letter to Thyatira is the only one of seven letters that contains the title “Son of God” referring to Jesus. This is even more significant in that the introductions to the other six letters repeat descriptions of Jesus recorded in Revelation 1:12-20 (excluding those to Philadelphia and Laodicea), “Son of God” does not appear (though “Son of Man” is the title used) - nor, for that matter, does it appear anywhere else throughout the entire book of Revelation.
“The title ‘Son of God’ stands in strong contrast to the local cultic worship of Apollo Tyrimnos, which was merged with that of the emperor (identified as Apollo incarnate) so that both were acclaimed as sons of Zeus. Thus it is not the emperor or the guardian deity of Thyatira, but the resurrected Christ, who is the true Son of God”
By reminding the Thyatirans of His unique divine Sonship, Jesus elevates Himself and His Word superior to emperor worship and cult religions.
In Acts 16:16 Luke reported “a certain slave girl possessed a spirit of divination” (literally, a “python' spirit”) by which she prophesied. This is significant because it was believed by the citizens of Thyatira , that Apollo's medium or mouth-piece on the earth was the “Pythia” or python.
It is possible that Jezebel, called a “prophetess” in the city where Apollo was worshipped may have also been a “Pythia”. However, even if she was when Jesus used the title ‘Son of God', He is immediately exercising His authority over all other mouth-pieces of Satan.

“Ephesus was strong in doctrine but weak in love. Thyatira was strong in love but weak in doctrine. It’s common for churches to be polarized in one of these two extremes… Either polarization is deadly. Balance is the key in any church.” Keith Krell
Cf. also 1 Cor 10:19-22 sacrificial meal of the pagan gods, and indulging in sexual intercourse with temple priestesses in cult prostitution. The worship of Baal back in Jezebel’s day involved intercourse with temple prositutes.

By 1987, the group faced numerous allegations of abduction, pedophilia and various forms of sexual abuse. It was later revealed that more than 70 percent of the group’s 10,000 members were under the age of 18.

The one who “has eyes like a flame of fire” (2:18) is merciful even to Jezebel and gave her time to repent. But she remains unfaithful.
Jehu functioned as a commander in the army of Ahab (2 Kings 9:5, 25) in the northern kingdom of Israel. Jehu was the son of Jehoshaphat, although he is more commonly mentioned as son of Nimshi, his grandfather, perhaps because Nimshi was more well-known. Jehu’s name, meaning “Yahweh is he,” portrays well his future, God-given task: to obliterate the house of Ahab along with the worship of Baal that pervaded Israel at the time. Jehu was a reformer of sorts who was used by God to clean up the mess that Ahab had made.
Jehoram (Hebrew: יְהוֹרָם Yəhōrām; also Joram) was a king of the northern Kingdom of Israel. (2 Kings 8:16, 2 Kings 8:25–28) He was the son of Ahab and Jezebel, and brother to King Ahaziah. Unlike his predecessors, Joram did not worship Ba'al, and he removed the pillar of Baal,[2] probably a special pillar which Ahab had erected near his palace at Jezreel for his own and Jezebel’s worship.[3] However, the writer of 2 Kings says that he still "followed in the ways of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, who led the Israelites to sin".
