James John Mayhew (born 1964 in Stamford, Lincolnshire) is a well-known English illustrator and author of children's books.
Brought up in Blundeston, Suffolk, on leaving school Mayhew studied art at Lowestoft School of Art from 1982 to 1984, and then illustration at Maidstone College of Art, graduating BA in 1987 with first class honours. He has illustrated over 50 books including 20 titles of which he is also the author.
His first published work was "Katie's Picture Show" (1989), beginning a long-running series about a girl who explores famous paintings by climbing inside them. Many of his books have a cultural agenda - either art, ballet, opera or literature. A stage adaptation of "Katie and the Mona Lisa" is currently in production.
In 1994 he received The New York Times Award for one of the ten best illustrated books of the year for The Boy and the Cloth of Dreams, written by Jenny Koralek. Mayhew's books have been published all over the world, including Japan, China, Korea, Germany, France, Greece, Estonia, Spain, Scandinavia and America. He has exhibited his work in Hertfordshire, Cambridge, London, Paris and New York.
He is the creator of the Ella Bella Ballerina series and also the illustrator of the Mouse and Mole books, animated for television in the 1990s, with the voices of Alan Bennett and Richard Briers.
Also a storyteller, Mayhew has devised and performed in concerts for children with several orchestras, incorporating live music, narration and live illustration. These have included "Peter and the Wolf", "The Firebird", "Swan Lake", "Pictures at an Exhibition" and "Scheherazade". He has also participated in promenade performances at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Mayhew also teaches Children's Book Illustration to M.A. students at Anglia Ruskin University, and has taught on courses at the Arvon Foundation.

LA CARLOTA VISITA SITGES
James John Mayhew, autor i il·lustrador de les populars Històries de Carlota, Katie
en anglès, visitarà dijous que ve 27 de setembre l’ESCAAN School de Sitges on
impartirà unes classes d'il·lustració als seus alumnes. A la tarda signarà el seu
darrer llibre en un acte obert al públic a la Sala d'Actes del col·legi, on també es
podran adquirir els seus llibres signats per l'autor.
James John Mayhew (nascut el 1964 a Stamford, Lincolnshire) és un famós il·lustrador Anglès
amb més de 50 llibres infantils, a més de ser autor de 20 dels mateixos. El seu primer llibre per
a nens, publicat el 1989, va ser “El museu de Carlota” i va donar inici a una col·lecció de llibres
infantils sobre art que TheTimes va descriure com “un concepte brillant”. En ells Carlota, la
protagonista, s'introdueix en els quadres famosos per estudiar-los.
Criat a Blundeston, Suffolk, quan va acabar l'escola Mayhew va estudiar art a l'Escola d'Art de
Lowestoft i després il·lustració a MaidstoneCollege of Art. Ell és el creador de la sèrie “Ella
Bella Ballarina” i també és l'il·lustrador dels llibres del ratolí Mole, animats per a la televisió en
la dècada de 1990. Mayhew a més és un narrador de contes, ha ideat i realitzat concerts per a
nens amb diverses orquestres, incorporant música en viu, narració i il·lustració en directe com
"Pere i el Llop" o "El Llac dels Cignes". També ha participat en espectacles a la Royal Opera
House, a CoventGarden. Mayhew dedica part del seu temps a la formació, ensenya il·lustració
de llibres infantils a estudiants de l’AngliaRuskin University (Cambridge&Chelmsford) i ha
col·laborat en els cursos de la Fundació Arvon.
Els llibres de Mayhew han estat publicats a tot el món, incloent Japó, Xina, Corea, Alemanya,
França, Grècia, Estònia, Espanya, Escandinàvia i Amèrica. Ha exposat la seva obra a
Hertfordshire, Cambridge, Londres, París i Nova York.
A James li apassiona implicar els nens al món de la música i l'art i gràcies al seu sentit per a la
diversió pot arribar al públic infantil amb molta força. Visita nombrosos col·legis, biblioteques i
llibreries, i gaudeix fent que els nens participin en activitats com la pintura de murals o variats
projectes basats en la literatura i l'art.
El proper 27 de setembre a les 17 hores, James Mayhewrealitzarà la lectura del seu darrer
llibre “Katie in London” a la Sala d'Actes de l’Escaan International School, a Vallpineda (Sitges),
on qui ho desitgi podrà adquirir llibres signats per l'autor. L’acteés obert al públic que vulgui
