Vastu consultancy
1. Vastu Consultancy
Vastu Shastra is a very old Indian science of Architecture. Ancient Indian sages and rishis
created Vastu Shastra for the welfare of the entire humanity. Its knowledge enables us to get
benefits of mental peace, health, wealth etc. and make our life happy.
In ancient times the human habitats were generally constructed according to the rules of Vastu
Shastra and people lived happily. In those days the members of a joint family used to be content,
prosperous and happy. But, today, despite the families being small, peace and happiness remains
a far cry. As times advanced, we started ignoring our old culture and tradition.
The rules of Vastu Shastra too were ignored. No wonder the people experienced all kinds of
troubles. You will be surprised to note that even today the residents of South India follow the
rules of the Vastu shastra and are more peaceful and materialistically and economically more
prosperous than North India. This science, after propounding the rules of construction, goes to
prove that by constructing properly our buildings, villages, towns, cities, shops, offices, factories
and industries we can make ourselves prosperous. The Vastu Shastra is founded upon the laws of
nature. The equilibrium, significance of it can very well be noted from the movements of
motorcars, ships, airoplaines, and trains. The Buses are so accurately balanced that even
deflation in any one of the tyres, can cause a serious accident if it is running at a high speed.
Similarly, when a building is constructed without observing the rules of Vastu Shastra, various
calamities, diseases and accidents take place. This is the eternal rule of nature and it has no place
for any logic, doubt or debate.
Energy Flow : The directions of East and West are important as far as obtaining the energy from
the sun is concerned. The importance of the directions of the North and the South lies in the flow
of magnetic waves which flows from North Pole to South Pole. Therefore southward portion of
every building should be higher than the northward portion.
Importance of Five Elements
2. Earth : The selection of site for building construction is very important. Besides, congenial
environment, greenery and availability of water, we should also see if the land is suitable for
building construction.
Water : As far as the flow of domestic water is concerned, it should be borne in mind and that
such water should be drained out in North - East. Wells, tubewells, swimming pools etc. should
all be in the North-East. The water from the toilets and bathrooms, too, should be drained out in
the North- East. The North-East direction is always auspicious and suitable for water. There are
sewer-systems in the cities. The Septic tanks or the flow of sewer systems should be towards
North - West. The flow of rain or fresh water should be towards North- East.
Fire The direction of Fire is South-East. The Kitchen, fireplace, geysers etc. should be placed
only in this direction. Alternatively these could be placed in North-West, because it is at 180
degree to South-East.
Air : The air should enter the building from North -East. All the openings and media for air entry
such as doors, windows, ventilators coolers, air-conditioners, verandahs, balconies etc. should be
in this directions.
Space : The open sky influences greatly. We can get the effect of terrestrial-energies
uninterruptedly. But the buildings prove a barrier to the effects of open sky. Therefore, the
importance of roofs or lawns gets emphasized, but the Vastu shastra has refrained from
deliberating in detail over it, because it is related chiefly to building construction and we will
discuss only this aspect. Traditionally every house in India used to have an open space (Court
Yard) in the center of the house. It provided the dwellers not only the open sky but also sunlight
and cross-ventilation of air.
Vastu Purusha
According to Brihat Samhita, Vastu was given to the sages from Brahma the ultimate creator.
There is a mythology concerning the birth of Vastu Purusha.
There was a Demon, who terrorised the whole earth and heavens and he became the source of
trouble to the world. The Gods became infuriated by his acts of brutality and they buried him in
the earth by his head embedded in the inverted position, and also started guarding that place.
It became the recognised place of Gods and the buried demon was called Vastu Purusha by the
Creator Brahma who also proclaimed that the construction on the earth will only be successful
when the Vastu Purusha will be worshipped and respected. This worship and respect meant more
than rituals.
Going by the same anology, Vastu Purusha has been imagined as a man lying with his back
upside and bent and his head pointing North and East respectively, whereas his elbows are also
bent and point towards North-West and South East direction respectively. His knees are touching
the elbows and are pointing the directions of the elbows only. His feet and soles are
3. joined and are pointing jointly towards South-West direction. In this scheme the naval part of the
demon will coincide the centre point of the land and was called Brahma Sthan.
So this symbolic story easily explains the direction allotted to the land and their utility
represented by the body parts of the demon, where the most important ones are the head (north-
east) and Naval the mid point of the land.
The Vastu Purush is located in such a way that it occupies each part of the lank, however smaller
the parts are. The scheme of the land division into 100 right angled quadrangular parts or 81
parts or 64 parts is such that Vastu Purush exists in each and every part which is called Pada also.
So in this way Vastu Purusha rules each Pada or Units.
The Chief Technical planner of the earth after Vastu Purusha is Vishwakarma, whose origin and
contribution is explained thus - Vishwakarma, the Chief Architect was appointed by the Creator
Brahma for the help of Prithu, the first emperor of the earth according to one's ehims and fancies
but only after the wise advise of Vishwakarma. So Vishwakarma was given the rights to enforce
the rules and regulations of the Vastu and he himself could envisage the technical part of the
construction without any fear of the royal authority. Vishwakarma was given the responsibility to
manifest the divinity of the gods into all the Padas of the land according to the Great plan of the
Creator Brahma.
The Directions :
The importance of orientation of a
building is not only for saving energy
but also to have a better house design,
which not only gives comfortable living
but also gives good health, prosperity
and wealth to the house
owners/occupiers and these families.
There lies a co-relation between the
rotational scenario of the planets and the
house design and their different
directions with respect of NORTH. The
building of any type and its construction
meets the purpose if proper orientation
has been given using suitable local
building material. It increases not only
its life span but also improves the
condition of occupants.
There are instances where buildings are
not planned according to required local
orientation were lost or deteriorated
much faster then the buildings having
built with proper studies of
orientation.The proper orientation
4. means the proper knowledge of all the
eight directions. It is a common
knowledge that the direction from
where the Sun arises is known as East
and where it sets as West and when one
faces the East direction, towards one's
left is North and towards one's right is
South. The corner where two directions
meet obviously is more significant since
it combines the forces emanating from
both the directions. SO in all there are
eight directions , North, Northeast, East,
Eastsouth, South, Southwest, West,
Westnorth. Every direction has its own
significance and has its own
construction. The basic rules of Vastu
Shastra are based on these eight
directions.
Vasthu Directions For Home Direction Planet Lordship Best For

Vastu Advice for the Selection of the Plot
One of the major obstacles that come in one's way is the non-availability of sufficient
private land either in big cities or small towns.
Several things need careful consideration while going for construction of a building. For
any building, the site (Kshetra) is the basic requirement and utmost care must be taken in
its selection.
The most important of all these is selecting the right plot or the site. Vastu Shastra,
therefore, has given the utmost importance to selection of a right plot and has set down
several significant principles.
5. There are some important factors that you should always consider while looking for a
plot.
Whenever possible one should always try to follow the Vastu principles as violation of
these principles can destroy the happiness of one's life.
Types of soil
Earth is classified according to its color like brick red, dark brown, black, yellow or mixed,
according to its smell, texture and taste. Black and clayey soil is not good for construction.
• The soil white in color, having lotus smell, sweet taste and which contains greenery is
considered very good.
• The soil red in color, smelling blood and astringent in taste is good but needs some attention.
• The soil yellow/pale green in color, grainish smell and sour taste is average and needs a lot of
rectification before commencement of work.
• The soil black in color, having pungent small and bitter taste should be avoided as it is not
auspicious for construction of the houses.
While designing the foundation, the load bearing capacity of the soil should be checked. The real
analysis of soil should be done which determines the land selection for the plot and for the
foundation of the building.
Location and buying
The location of the plot is very important as the surroundings affects us directly and indirectly.
You must take care of the following things:
• One should not buy the land from people suffering from prolonged sickness or who have
become insolvent, distressed or unfortunate people as the atmosphere of the particular space
depends on the people living there.
• The soil of the land should not contain ant-hills, bones, skeletons.
• Old houses which are damaged due to fire, lighting, rain and storm etc., are not good.
• You should not buy the land which is sandwiched between two huge buildings.
• The plot at the T- junction should be avoided.
Topography and surroundings : There are several factors which make a plot useable or non
useable. The four directions, the shape, the existence of highways, cremation places, rivers,
wells, places of worships, they all influence the VASTU of the place.
• There should not be any cemetery graveyard, tomb adjacent to the plot or in front or the back.
If this is the condition, the people residing in that house will live in fear and will never have the
peace of mind.
• A temple, church, mosque also should not be in front of any house otherwise the inmates will
always be sick and mentally upset.
• Falling of shadows of the temples and trees nearby on the main building brings undesirable
problems.
Selection of the plot : Facing of the plots are considered important but there is a wrong notion
that North and East facing plots are better than South and West facing plots. This is not true, all
the directions are equally important; it is up to us how much we follow the rules.
6. • The plot should be either square or rectangle in shape.
• Irregular shapes should be avoided or should be cured before construction.
• The site should be level or sloping towards North or east or North-East.
Vastu consultation of selection of plot involves a thorough analysis. We will provide you with
the assistance in selection of the best suitable plot. We follow the following steps:
• Check and determine the directions of the site.
• Check the soil of the site as it plays a major role in forming the vibrations of that particular site.
• Try to get a personal feel and touch of the property to observe positive or negative vibrations at
the site.
• Prepare a Vastu analysis chart indicating important aspects and grading of the plot and

Vastu Advice For The Construction Detail : The second stage after buying a land is to start
construction. Now even if you have chosen a bad land you can correct it by making proper
construction and using Eco friendly material according to vastu. If you have purchased a good
land, it can be unsuspicious if you don't make the construction according to the rules of vastu. If
you choose the wrong materials in wrong place, they will start giving problem later. Imagine
after whole construction you come to know that the material is the cause of worries. What will
you do? You cannot demolish the whole building , so its always better to have precautions rather
than to go for cures.
There are some important factors that you should always consider while designing the house.
Open space around the building. We have to carefully examine the space given to us around the
building.
Leave more space in the North and East as compared to South and West.
The major construction should never be on the Northern and eastern wall.
Even for the South/West facing plots, the open area in South & West should not be more
than North & East.
7. The proportion :The ratio between the length and breadth of the building should normally be
1:1 or 1:1.5 or maximum up to 1:2, it should never exceed this limit in any circumstance,
otherwise it will become a 'long bar' shaped plot and is not at all auspicious for anyone.
The Levels : At any level, whether Ground level or First level, the West, South, Southwest sides
should be more elevated than the North, Northeast and East sides. Basically the flow of water
should always be from the South to North or West to East as it create a lot of positive energies.
Roofing : The roofing slope should always be towards East and North so that the water always
flows towards the North and East. If the roof is designed slanted, the slopes should be in north
and east sides. Slanting towards South or West should be avoided.
The Height : The height is related to weight. The height either be kept equal everywhere in the
building or it will be preferred to keep the South and West higher than the North and East as the
South, West sides will automatically gets heavier and this is very auspicious. But never keep the
North and east sides at more heights than the South, West.
Terrace / Porch / Portico / Balcony : All these should always be located in the North, East or
Northeast sides of the building to bring the health, wealth and happiness. The balconies should
always face the North, East or Northeast.
Compound wall : The compound is the wall that covers the boundary of the house. The
compound wall either should be of same height and thickness in all the four sides or it will be
best if it is thicker and taller in Southern and Western sides as compared to the Northern and
Eastern sides. This is preferred as the thick wall of the South and West sides will prevent the
afternoon sun and the setting rays of the sun, which are harmful for the humans. Light walls in
North and East sides will allow the beneficial morning rays to come and penetrate in the house;
they are full of Vitamin D and are the only source of obtaining it.
Garage / Out house : The best place to construct them is the Northwest and Southeast corner
and care should be taken not to block or cut the corners at the Southeast or Northwest and the
quarter walls should not touch the wall at the East or North side.
Guard's room : A concrete or wooden shelter is made either in Southwest or Southeast and the
shelter should be facing the East or North but it is important to ensure that the watchman is able
to see every movement.
Overhead tanks : These tanks should be placed in South/West/Southwest as the tank becomes
very heavy.
Underground reservoir : It should always be made in the North/East/Northeast.Well / Bore -
Well / Tube - Well
These should be placed in Northeast or eastern sides preferably in between the mid North and
Northeast as it bring all round prosperity and new opportunities for growth.
Thus, if we consider all these points, we will never make a mistake to design a house which is
against Vaastu and then the people will stop suffering from the defects of Vaastu.
Remedies for Common Vaastu Defects:-
• In case you have a drain or a river nearby the house which is flowing in a direction other than
the north-east direction and has anti-clockwise movement, the best bet would be to place a statue
of dancing Ganeshji facing the west on the north-east corner of the house.
• If the boring of your building or house has been placed in the wrong direction, it is best to have
a picture of Panchmukhi Hanumanji, facing South-West to the boring.
• If while entering your home you have a naked wall, place a statue or a picture of Ganeshji.
8. Remember, a naked wall is a sign of loneliness and hence the good way to conceal it would be
with the statue or a picture of Lord Ganesha.
• In case a high voltage overhead wire passes over your house, erect a plastic pipe filled with
lime from one corner to the other in such a manner that both its end would remain outside by at
least three feet each. This would eliminate the evil effects of energy, being generated out of the
overhead wire.
• Energy circles of a house can be enhanced by using Swastika Yantra. However, the method
requires a lot of care and should be done under the supervision of an able Vastu mason.
• A toilet, built at the eastern corner at the 'Ishan' angle, causes a lot of diseases to the inmates.
For this, construct a toilet mainly towards south or west. The face should be towards the north or
west, while discharging stool.
• In the kitchen, place the grinder, fridge, shelf and other heavy items towards south and west
wall.
• If you are facing health problems, check your bed. As per vastu shastra, one should always use
bed with four legs. Box type bed stops air circulation and is the foremost reason for bad health.
• Placing pyramids is an effective and pocket friendly way of curbing all the vastu defects of a
house or a building. These are installed in strategic location in the house such as the center of the
house, a specific room or even an energetic key point. It balances the electromagnetic field of the
human aura, thereby harmonizing mind, body, spirit and environment.
• Poster of crying girl, war scene, sexy scenes, angry man, owl and eagle are considered
inauspicious. In case you have one at your home, replace it immediately.
• As for the doors, if you have doors that open outwards, replace them immediately by those that
open inwards.
• Doors of each room should be facing East.
• Bedrooms should be in South and West.
• Placement of mirrors on South and West wall are inauspicious.
• While sleeping head should be in South or West but never in North.
• Pooja room should be in North East. All idols and photographs should be facing East or West.
• Toilet seat should be in North-South only. It should not be in East-West.
• Out houses should not touch the compound wall of North and East side.
• Stairs should always be in clock-wise direction.
• Anything underground should be in North or East.
• Anything above ground should be in South or West.
• Porch should not touch the North or East compound wall.
• Big trees should not be grown in North or East. They should be in South or West side of the
house.
• Face East or North while reading or transacting any business deal.
• Face East while cooking, West is allowed if there is no alternative, but never face South while
cooking.
• Total number of doors and windows should be in even number for each floor, but should not
end in zero like 10, 20, 30. The width of the door should be half the height of the door. The door
should not be too high, too low, too wide or too narrow. The doors should be rectangular and
square doors should always be avoided.
• Ventilation should be looked after and good cross ventilation should be present.
• Never put the poster of crying girl, war scene, sexy scenes, angry man, owl, eagle etc. They are
inauspicious.
9. Doors should open inside the room and not outside.
• In bed rooms, always use bed of four legs only. Never use box type bed because it stops the air
circulation under the bed which is bad for health.
• Never eat or drink in standing position.
• No room should be built under the stairs.
• The cupboard in the wall should be in the Southern or Western part direction of the house.
• In this kitchen, grinder, fridge, shelf and other heavy items should be towards South and West
wall.
• There should be no water body in front of any entrance door of the house.
• The ratio between length and breadth of the building should normally be 1:1 or 1:1.5 or
maximum 1:2. It should not exceed 1:2 in all circumstances. The building dimension should
preferably be longer in North-South, shorter in East-West.
• Ground level should be higher in West, South West and South as compared to East, North and
North East. It is better to keep North East the lowest.
• Floor level should be higher in South, South West, South East and Western portion and lower
in North, North East and East. The water should flow towards East or North and not in other
directions. Central zone should be even.
