3. What is the Pacific Ring of Fire?
● The Pacific Ring of Fire is an area where large numbers of
earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the
Pacific Ocean.
● It is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic
trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts and plate
movements.
4. Frequency of earthquake
● About 90% of the world's earthquakes and 80% of the
world's largest earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire.
● The next most seismic region is the Alpide belt, which
extends from Java to Sumatra through the Himalayas, the
Mediterranean, and out into the Atlantic.
5. Occurrence of an earthquake
● There are a lot of hard plates in the earth surface.
● They call a fault in one part. Because they move rapidly in
mainly the fault, earthquakes happen.
● The volcanic activity and the seismic activity are also active.
6. Past large earthquake 1
● 2004.12.26
● Sumatra coast earthquake
● Magnitude 9.1
● About 227898 victims
7. Past large earthquake 2
● 2011. 3.11
● East Japan great earthquake
● Magnitude 9.0
● About 15424 victims or more
