Literacy- Reading the Route to
            Success

 CPD Programme 19th October 2011
 Sarah Masters
 Jonathan Sim
 Martin Fehrenbach
Reasons for children to read
• It can inform and entertain. Reading can be fun
• It can fire a child`s imagination and increase their general
knowledge and their awareness of the world
• Has been proven to improve a child`s vocabulary, spelling
  and levels of comprehension
• Gives children more confidence when speaking and enables
them to take part in discussions on a wide range of topics
• Has a positive impact on their emotional and social
  behaviour
• Can be habit forming. Children who say they enjoy reading
are more likely to continue with it into adulthood and
encourage their own children to read
• Opportunity for “Lifelong learning”

habit forming.

This will also allow for: splitting groups by
KS or Gender.

Share a girlie book with just the girls, or a
boyish book with just the lads.

                  Or
something nice and easy with KS3 and
something ‘dangerous’ with KS4

spend time browsing in the MRC.

Many students complain that they don’t

in the MRC.

Taking time to choose a book right for
them is half the battle.

suggestions for those tricky students!
