4. Intro
• The selected song that I will be using in the music video
will be ‘Centuries’ by Fall Out Boy.
• This song has been chosen due to the many connotations
that cling to it; such as striving to be the best at anything
you do and working as a team to get something done.
• The song also leaves strong links that allow me to
connect to my music video; such as being a legend which
links into the genre of sports perfectly.
5. Style and Genre
• The style that my music video will be set in will be a
‘Mixture’ this is both a ‘Narrative’ (Telling a story through a
music video) and a ‘Performance’ (Performing and
dancing to a music video.) By choosing a mixture it allows
my to keep the audience entertained while enticing an
array of emotions through the use of a story and enjoying
the different actions shown through performance of the
singing and lip syncing from the main protagonist to give a
sense of interaction with the audience.
6. Style and Genre
• The chosen genre of my music video is based as a ‘Punk
Rock’ style of music, Fall Out Boy has changed over time
to become more of a rock styled genre of music which still
holds a massive fan base even with the new content and
collaborations that Fall Out Boy surprise their fans with.
The style of ‘Punk’ Rock has negative connotations on it
of danger and fighting, the stereotype of ‘Punk’ is normally
a teenager that doesn’t listen and normally grow out of the
phase; this could link in to Fall Out Boy with their sudden
change to collaborate with different artists of many
different genres.
7. My Idea…
• My idea for ‘Centuries’ was to make it relatable to the
target audience, you can have a good video if it’s a
brilliant idea or even a strange idea; but if you can
manage to immerse your audience into the video and give
them something that they can relate to I believe that the
video will not just get more attention but gives the
audience more feeling of enjoyment due to the fact that
they wont just be watching an ‘empty’ shell of a video with
no meaning behind it.
• The final product idea that was formed would be to have it
relating to a sport; out of all I decided to choose
8. My Idea…
• The final product idea that was formed would be to have it
relating to a sport; out of all I decided to choose
basketball due to the fact that football is a very iconic
sport widely viewed over the world, but personally I
believe the pace and effort can be portrayed a lot better if
basketball was implemented into the music video and I
can also then get a lot more shots of things like hoop
throws etc.
• The idea is that the main protagonist in my music video is
going to be a young boy that struggles to grow up with
bullying and being poor. This will then be contrasted by
his hard work and show him at the end as being a
professional basketball player.
9. My Idea…
• The idea is that the main protagonist in my music video is
going to be a young boy that struggles to grow up with
bullying and being poor. This will then be contrasted by
his hard work and show him at the end as being a
professional basketball player.
10. Locations:
• In my film there will be many different locations that I plan
to have set the scene and create tension/emphasis on the
events that will unravel there. These locations are as
follows:
• Basketball Court On Bench
• Inside House #1
• Basketball Court
• Locker Room
• Inside Basketball Stadium
• Inside House #2
11. Locations:
I chose to have the
park bench due to
the fact that it
portrays the main
protagonist singing
the song in a relevant
place to do with
starting basketball.
House #1 was
chosen to portray the
setting the
protagonist comes
from, this will allow
me to show his poor
setting and
determination.
The basketball court
will be where
everything kicks off
from, showing how
he is bullied and how
he gets back on his
feet to train even
harder to be the best,
showing you can
become something
from having nothing.
The locker room will
the second place for
the protagonist
singing, I chose a
locker room as it
shows the contrast
between a park
bench and a
professional locker
room bench to show
with age how good
he has gotten.
12. Locations:
I chose to have the basketball
stadium as one of my locations
due to the fact that it clearly
shows the skill that the
protagonist must of gained to get
here. Starting off hardly knowing
basketball and then being able to
go to a professional stadium and
show how much determination
and hard work pays off.
The final location that my music
video will include is House #2,
this is where one of the fans that
watches the professional game
will live, there will be a time skip
to show him as an old man and
portraying him telling his
grandchildren about the
legendary game while watching it
on TV, showing the legacy.
13. Costumes:
For the young protagonist I
will have him wearing lots of
scraggily looking clothing so
that you can define what kind
of class he is at the start of
the music video and then
contrast this by how he will
be by the end of the video.
These costumes are the ones
that will be worn by both
professional teams, the
proper outfits give the
impression and vibe of a pro
team and that is what I was
looking to show what how
much training and dedication
can get you.
The young boy in the stand
will be wearing the normal
casual clothes that a young
teenage boy would wear. I
decided to make him wear
this not just because it fits in,
but also due to the fact that it
shows that a boy that has
had a seemingly better
upbringing is looking up to
someone that had to start
from nothing.
14. Costumes:
The old man at the end of the
music video will be wearing a
kind of formal and old styled
clothing to go with his age.
The clothing that the old man
will wear doesn’t really have
a meaning behind it but to
show the age of the man and
to represent the time gap that
happens between the game
and the boy growing up into
an old man.
The bully will have the
stereotypical ‘chav’ labelled
clothing. This should allow
the audience to link the bully
to the things they picture
someone that is really rough
doing in their heads. This
also allows me to set the
scene for the events that will
happen further in the music
video.
The referee will be wearing
the stereotypical referee
outfit due to the fact that he
doesn’t play a major part in
the music video and will just
be a background extra to add
depth to the music video.
15. Actors:
Character Actor
Protagonist Elliot Albrow – I chose to have him play this part due to
the fact that he has a little brother that looks like him
and this allows him to suit the part of the young
protagonist.
Bully Cameron Holyroyd – I chose to have him play the bully
due to his body build, he suits the role of the ‘bully’
character.
Young Protagonist Sam Albrow – I chose to have him do this role due to
his older brother being the older protagonist and this
means that my video will have consistancy.
Young Boy In Stands Lewis Fry – I chose to have him play the young boy as
he wont need to be shown
Old Man Trevor Williams - I chose to use him due to the fact that
he is at hand when I need him to film, his part is very
short and doesn’t go in to a lot of detail, meaning that I
should have more time to edit the parts with him in
them without having to focus on filming more scenes.
Referee Mohammed Zaine – I chose the referee to be
Mohammed due to the fact I needed a filler character
for the referee, the time he is onscreen is not big so I
can just slide him into some scenes to add depth.
16. Props…
Basketball is the most iconic prop and is
used by most of the different actors in the
music video as it is the key point, it allows
focuses and zooms to add drama and will
have multiple effects such as slow motion
added to it.
17. Props…
A bench used at the first and second stage
of the protagonist signing to the song as he
will be sat on the same bench which hasn’t
changed while he has and gotten older.
This is to symbolise that some things do
not change while others you must strive to
change.
18. Props…
The television is shown twice, the first time
is on a rough and old T.V. to show that the
main protagonist as a child becomes
intrigued with basketball and wanting to
become the best; the other time is on a
bigger and better T.V. which shows his
legendary dunk as an adult to show how
much he has grown over the years.
19. Props…
The lockers are used in the background to
the changing room to add emphasis on
where the actor is meant to be; due to the
lockers being there it tells the audience
that it is not just a room and that it is a
‘Locker Room.’
20. Props…
The trophy will be a little reminder that will
get zoomed into at one point in the video
for the fact that it gives the audience the
debate wondering whether he has won this
while going on about being the best or that
someone else has won the trophy and left
him singing about his past.
21. Props…
The whistle is simply used for the fact that
it adds depth and realism to show that it is
an official basketball game that is getting
played and that when the protagonist gets
an injury, the audience can instantly tell he
has a free throw/penalty.
22. Props…
The sign is just going to be put in the
background to add depth to the video so
that little things in the background are
enough to catch the audience’s eyes but at
the same time not distract them enough so
that they can’t focus onto the video.
23. Props…
The flag is probably the most iconic and influential prop in the
entire video, even more than the basketball due to the fact that
the child that’s is holding the flag watched the legendary game,
and near the end of the video we will see that the young child
has grown up into an old man and passing down his flag and
letting his grandchildren watch the legendary dunk on the bigger
television; showing that you can come from nothing and people
will remember you for a very long time, this is shown also with
the television for the fact that things get upgraded over time.
(Flag relates to team.)
24. My Research…
Through my three similar research; I found out which genre of certain music
different people like, the amount of people that would listen and watch my
music video and the different types of branches that come off the rock genre of
music.
From this I decided that one of the best ways to get more views from my work
would be to change the genre from mainly ‘Rock’ to ‘Punk Rock’ which is a
subgenre of rock and has recently had a boom in fame after it faded out in the
2000s.
25. Audience Research…
Through multiple ways such as questionnaires I have found out the main
target group for my music video and the age that this rotates around; through
asking questions such as who prefers a certain genre and their opinions on
the genre.
My target audience could be many different
options, this could go from being males to
females, but one thing is for sure and that it
would be mainly based on people aged
from 16-21 as this is where my majority of
votes through my questionnaires have
come from.
26. Age Rating…
Through time a research of looking at all the different age ratings that are
available when someone is watching a film, I took my time and planned
out how I could make my music video the most productive it can be
allowing nearly everyone to watch it.
For my music video I believe the best age would be the rating of ‘PG’ this
is because the song I have chosen which is ‘Centuries’ has barely any if
any mild language and I will not show any violence due to the fact that my
music video will simply be to contrast the multiple ways of becoming a
legend, be it through fighting or through sport, it will be a mixture of
performance and narrative making a good all-rounder when it comes to
the different ages.
Due to age ratings there is a watershed after 9 o’clock which reduces the
amount of content on the television for children when watching
programmes before this time. This is so children do not accidentally see
programmes that may scare them that include violence etc. Some films
may have some of the violent scenes cut out and this avoids the
watershed due to the fact these scenes have been removed

Due to age ratings there is a watershed after 9 o’clock which reduces the

programmes before this time. This is so children do not accidentally see
programmes that may scare them that include violence etc. Some films
may have some of the violent scenes cut out and this avoids the
watershed due to the fact these scenes have been removed and would
then be more audience friendly for a range of different ages.
My product would hopefully be before the watershed due to the fact that it
holds no violence, meaning that all audiences can watch it and I do not
have a cap on the amount of views that my product can gain. If I wanted
to create a more mature product I would have to create another version
with these scenes in it, or make it easily editable so that things can be
changed e.g. bleeping of swear words.
28. Conventions of ‘Rock’…
There are many different conventions when linked into the genre of rock.
This includes violence or danger, even rebellion is one of the main
conventions; rock was a genre when people wanted to rebel. The
subgenre of punk rock was seen to be even worse; with people meant to
be leaving home to rebel.
I do the opposite approach with my work though; instead of using this as
an excuse to put a bad name on rock, I went against the conventions and
made a fast paced built up music video which would hopefully inspire
people and keep them intrigued with the fast paced music.
