◦ Also known as DERMATITIS
◦ Refers to SKIN INFLAMMATION
◦ Causes patches of dry, reddened, intensively itchy skin
◦ Usually occurs on FACE, HANDS, SCALP, KNEES and ELBOWS
◦ Repeated scratching causes CRACKING OF SKIN leaves skin open to infection
◦ Often associated with ALLERGIES and ASTHMA
◦ Usually develops in infancy and disappears by early teenage years
◦ Adults may have relapses, triggered by factors like DUST MITES, CERTAIN FOODS,

- People with this type of eczema develop skin irritation in spots that they frequently

- Also known as “DANDRUFF”
- Occurs in scalp (for children)
- For adults, it occurs in :
a. Eyebrows

- Develops in people whose VEINS IN LOWER LEGS DON’T RRETURN BLOOD TO

15. ECZEMA SYMPTOMS :
1. Patches of red, flaky skin, that appear on face, elbows, hands, knees and chest
2. Inflamed, itchy skin
3. Patches of dry, scaly skin
4. Small, raised bumps, which may release fluid , and crust over when scratched
5. Blisters/ cracks, which sometimes bleeds
6. Disturbed sleep patterns

1. NUTMEG :
- Rub NUTMEG against a smooth, stone slab, along with little water convert it into a paste
apply on affected areas
2. (CAMPHOR + SANDALWOOD ) COMBINATION :
- Mix (1 tsp. camphor + 1 tsp sandalwood paste ) apply on affected areas
3. OATMEAL BATH :
- Add OATMEAL OIL to bath
- COLLOIDAL OATMEAL has 3 actions:
a. Heals dry and itchy skin c. Alleviates redness
b. Reduces inflammation

4. (HONEY + CINNAMON) COMBINATION :
- Apply honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on affected areas to cure eczema
5. MAGNESIUM BATH :
- Magnesium bath soothes skin , and helps patients feel more relaxed
- Adding a cup of EPSOM SALT/ MAGNESIUM FLAKES + few tbsp. of HIMALAYAN
SALT helps in alleviating skin itching
- Magnesium bath recipe :
a. 1-2 cups of Epsom salt/ Magnesium flakes b. Half cup of Himalayan/ sea salt
c. Half tsp. of natural vanilla extract
d. 10-15 drops of essential oil (LAVENDER/ MINT) {Optional}

6. COCONUT OIL :
- Heals itching/ mild pain caused by dermatitis
- Easily available and cheap
- Apply 2-3 tbsp. of coconut oil on eczema patches for best results
7. TURMERIC :
- Turmeric contains CURCUMIN powerful anti-inflammatory and bactericidal
- Mix turmeric powder with water to cleanse the area infected by the skin condition

8. JOJOBA OIL :
- Liquid wax, that penetrates skin deeply
- Rich and moisturizing
- Rinse your hands with water pat them dry apply JOJOBA OIL to affected area
gently massage it on your skin, until it is partially absorbed
- Use this three times daily
9. FISH OIL SUPPLEMENTATION:
- Fish oil maintains normal skin function and alleviates eczema symptoms
- Use ORANGE JUICE (OPTIONAL) to mask the fishy and unpleasant smell of capsule
dosage forms…….

10. CLAY THERAPY:
- FRENCH GREEN CLAY Rich in magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium and other
minerals stops pain and itching
- Usually used in combination with WITCH HAZEL EXTRACT , to relieve itching,
crusts/ blisters
- To clay add half cup of water/ witch hazel extract form a creamy paste apply
directly to affected area let it dry after drying, rinse off with cool water gently
pat dry with a soft , clean cloth……………………………..
22. DO’S FOR ECZEMA :
1. Bath only once a day, using LUKEWARM WATER
2. Apply moisturizer immediately after bathing
3. Control itching and scratching
4. Trim your nails / put on cotton gloves at night to prevent scratching
5. Wear cotton-lined rubber/ disposable garments , when using chemicals (detergents,
dyes, etc.)
6. Use mild soap/ body cleanser
7. Pat yourself dry after bath, instead of rubbing skin vigorously…………………………
23. DON’T’S FOR ECZEMA :
1. Avoid irritants/ allergens that cause rash
2. Avoid dairy products, eggs, preservatives, nuts
3. Avoid citrus fruits
4. Avoid lotions with fragrances/ other irritating substances
5. Avoid wool and man-made fibers
6. Avoid wearing tight-fitting, rough/ scratchy clothing
7. Avoid scratching the rash
8. Avoid stress
9. Avoid strenuous exercise
10. Avoid lacking of sleep……………………………..
