We recently redesigned our onboarding experience for new engineers from the ground-up, which greatly increased confidence and productivity within their first few months at LinkedIn. The result was our new Engineering Bootcamp, which enables new engineers at LinkedIn to develop their first application on our technology stack using our tools and infrastructure during their first week.

After several years
of delivering our
prior lecture-based
onboarding class,
we decided to
redesign the
program from the
ground up to give
our new engineers a
more effective and
world class learning
experience.

We designed a new one week
class that follows the philosophy
of learning-by-doing. We want to
challenge the skills of our new
engineers while giving them the
freedom of creativity.

to enable our new engineers to
DREAM BIG,
GET SHIT DONE,
AND HAVE FUN!

On the first day of our Engineering Bootcamp, a senior engineering leader
introduces the class to our engineering culture and how we aspire to reach our
vision of providing economic opportunity to every member of the global workforce.

The class also begins to learn about the tools and methods we use to build great
products at scale.

In the days following, our new
engineers work in teams and
begin coding on the LinkedIn
technology stack.

They partner with mentors as
they develop their first back end
web service and front end
application.

demonstrates what they built,
how they built it, and key lessons
they learned.
