Parks Capital Projects
At Parks, I use Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to keep the public updated about news and openings. Most recently, I've
been promoting two new ice skating rinks in popular Brooklyn neighborhoods, by posting photos in advance of the rinks'
openings as well as tweeting details about the rinks.

Parks Capital Projects
I started posting photos of the new ice skating rink at McCarren Pool to our social media accounts two hours before it
opened, to show the scope of the new project as well as the amount of joy it brought out once it opened.

The Lakeside Center, below, is a long-anticipated project that will be opening later in December. I've posted photos of the
rink, which is not currently open or accessible to the public, to help build anticipation for the project, and to build up a
reputation for our social media streams as a reliable source of important Parks news.

Archival Images
I find and select some of the best of our archival images to evoke Parks' place in NYC history, bring out a sense of nostalgia
among those who like to remember earlier iterations of New York City, and connect our account with the popular #tbt trend.

When possible, I tie those archival images in to current or upcoming events, like this photo of the first New York City
Marathon, which I posted the Thursday before this year's marathon.

Outside of #tbt on Instagram, I selectively post archival images to Facebook and Twitter for special anniversaries and
commemorations.

The Wilder Side of Parks
One of my missions at Parks is to make members of the public more aware of the wild areas and nature preserves in New
York City. I use photos and facts about NYC's wildlife to raise awareness of this mostly unknown, not urban side of New York
City.

Often, these posts require consultation with naturalists out in the field, who can help me answer the public's questions
accurately.
