This document discusses education providers' responsibilities regarding assistive technology and accessibility. It notes that education institutions are required to make reasonable adjustments if a disabled student would otherwise be at a substantial disadvantage, such as not penalizing a dyslexic student on an exam. Institutions also have an anticipatory duty to avoid future discrimination by making appropriate adjustments in advance. In addition to not treating a disabled person 'less
favourably' for a reason relating to their disability
(by, for instance, marking a student down in an exam because
they are dyslexic), institutions are required to make
'reasonable adjustments' if a disabled person is
placed at a 'substantial disadvantage'.
Anticipatory:
Duty to make reasonable adjustments to avoid
discrimination against disabled people in the future
and make any appropriate adjustments in advance.
