This document discusses research into the effects of social media on churches. It describes declining participation and sense of community in churches. The study will measure how social media participation, use, and choices relate to community participation, engagement, and sense of community. It outlines a lesson program and workshops to be conducted at the H. Plechelmus church in 2011-2012 to experiment with social media for church community building. Results will identify best practices and design guidelines.
