• What do human rights mean to you?
They mean to me, that people make a difference in the
world.
• What human rights issue do you see today?
The issues I see, in my opinion are people not giving back
to the communities enough.
• What would you do to support the cause of human rights?
By giving back to the community, giving service hours in my
spare time, like I’m doing with the animal shelter.
• What are you doing for community service?
I’m helping at the animal shelter, helping dogs and cats to
get adopted.
• How does your community service project support human
rights? By giving animals new homes and a new start. They
help dogs/cats in the streets and that’s helps the
community

Rights that are rightfully ours and should not be taken away.
• What human rights issue do you see today?
Racism is one of the human rights issues that I see today.
• What would you do to support the cause of human rights?
I would personally communicate with different people that all
humans are equal and that nobody should be racist.
• What are you doing for community service?
Light the Night Walk to support cancer patients.
I was assigned to pass out the shirts that help fundraise for their
care and hospital bills.

rights?
It supports human rights because it helps people who are in
need-financially or emotionally. It also helps people, which is a
great way to retain a better environment and atmosphere.

Everyone has the right to happy in some way.
• What human rights issue do you see today?
Not enough people are giving back.
• What would you do to support the cause of human
rights?
I like to spread the word about real world problems by
holding fundraisers and offering volunteer
opportunities.
• What are you doing for community service?
• Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child.
• Volunteering at homeless shelters and at food
banks.
• How does your community service project support
human rights?
By giving the Christmas boxes to children and teenagers
in foreign countries, we are letting them know that they
deserve the right to happiness. Going to food shelters
lets people know that there are other people out there
who care about their well-being. Everyone deserves the
right to be happy.

• What do human rights mean to you?
It means having the ability to live a good life and express
who we are.
• What human rights issue do you see today?
One of the human rights issues I see today is the difficulty
for some people to express their faith or belief publicly
without feeling chastised or rebuked.
• What would you do to support the cause of human rights?
In order to support the cause of human rights, I express
freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
• What are you doing for community service?
I lead the worship team at my church by expressing faith
through gospel music.
• How does your community service project support human
rights?
My community service project supports freedom of religion
and freedom of speech by allowing the public to express
their religious independence through the words expressed in
the music that we play.

• What do human rights mean to you?
Human rights to me is the chance and opportunity for everyone
to be equal regardless of race, ethnicity, and color.
• What human rights issue do you see today?
Many people are not given the chance to be equal. There is
racism all around us and crimes against certain races of people.
People are held back from doing many things due to their social,
economic or racial status.
• What would you do to support the cause of human rights?
I support human rights by encouraging teenagers and youth in
my community to seek help from certain organizations to break
through their barriers and lead a happy, successful life in the
future.
• What are you doing for community service?
I am in a group called Youth Grant Makers for the Community
Foundation and I grant money to certain non-profit
organizations that will help the youth in my community to get a
better education and develop better habits to lead a productive
life in the future.
• How does your community service project support human rights?
We support human rights by allowing anyone-regardless of
color, race, religion, or beliefs to get help. We encourage the
youth to go to school, teach them skills to use in jobs and
rehabilitate them from drugs and violence. We don’t pay
attention to their background, and we give everyone a chance.

“Human rights to me means that everyone should get a
second chance.”
• What human rights issue do you see today?
“I think one big issue we see today are the issue with
ISIS.”
• What would you do to support the cause of human
rights?
I would support to give people second chances and give
back.”
• What are you doing for community service?
“First we volunteered at an event called Ed Camp for
educators in Riverside County. Second, we are going to
volunteer at a senior center.
• How does your community service project support
human rights?
“They support people and events that bring the
community together through education.”

Norma Vargas
• What do human rights mean to you?
As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “We are
equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination.
These rights are all inter-related, interdependent and
indivisible.”
• What human rights issue do you see today?
Children’s bullying today is becoming more serious. The
methods have tended to become more extreme, persistent and
insidious. Bullying has increased.
• What would you do to support the cause of human rights?
What I would do to solve this problem is raise the consciousness
of people about human rights. It’s important to respect the
differences of others as individuals.
• What are you doing for community service?
As a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, I help build and paint
homes for people who need a home, but can’t afford to buy
one.
• How does your community service project support human
rights?
Habitat for Humanity helps people who are homeless get a new
home which they build with us.

• What do human rights mean to you?
Human rights to me is what is right for us.
• What human rights issue do you see today?
Abuse is an issue that I see as a problem that needs to
be solved.
• What would you do to support the cause of human
rights?
I help clean the community to help it look nicer.
• What are you doing for community service?
I help keep our campus and community clean through
community service projects conducted by the Marine
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MJROTC).
• How does your community service project support human
rights?
It supports human rights by making us more mature and
appreciate the community that we have by learning how
to take care of it.

Kevin Villalobos
• What do human rights mean to you?
Human Rights gives the citizens of any country the
opportunity to live freely and have rights as a free people.
• What human rights issue do you see today?
One of the issues of the modern world today is that some
countries don’t have the human rights. This causes the
citizens in those countries to live in fear and hopelessness. A
terrorist organization group called “ISIS” is heartless as it
kidnaps and tortures people to gain power in the region.
• What would you do to support the cause of human? I would
like to donate money to help the people in the Middle East
who need medical aid and education because some children
are afraid to go to school because of these terrorist groups.
• What are you doing for community service?
For community service, I do parking detail; just lead drivers
to their parking spot. The other event I do: DUI “Driving
under the Influence” Checkpoint. I serve as security patrol
for the people and check the drivers to make sure that they
are not intoxicated for the people so the city will be safe.
• How does your community service project support human
rights? The DUI Checkpoint Program supports human rights
because I’m securing the citizens’ safety and make sure they
are okay. I always need to be polite and nice to the citizens
even when they’re not polite to me.

• What do human rights mean to you?
“They mean that everyone has rights to follow; to have
freedom, justice, and peace in the world according to the U.N.
Declaration of Human Rights.”
• What human rights issue do you see today?
“You know how every special ed. kid in wheelchairs and can’t
move and can’t talk? Well, I think that needs to change
because we need to help people in those kind of situations
and not them be dependent.”
• What would you do to support the cause of human rights?
“I would try to be more involved in the community and make
their lives better; make them happy by being there for them
when they need it.”
• What are you doing for community service?
“I’m going into the community with Lunch Buddies. The whole
purpose of the program is to really be there with their kids,
making sure that everyone has a Buddy from the regular ed.
(mainstream) kids.”
• How does your community service project support human
rights?
“My service project goes out and helps people who are in
wheelchairs. We help take them around places and help to get
them involved in the community. It supports human rights
because they all have the right to be with others and not with
the same group. The have the right to be equal.”
