5. Wrecked By Lack Of Trust
Now King Solomon loved many foreign
women. Besides Pharoah’s daughter,
he married women from Moab, Ammon,
Edom, Sidon, and from among the
Hittites. The Lord had clearly instructed
the people of Israel, “You must not
marry them, because they will turn
your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon
insisted on loving them anyway. He
had 700 wives of royal birth and 300
concubines. And in fact, they did turn
his heart away from the Lord.
1 Kings 11:1-3
6. Wrecked By Lack Of Trust
When the LORD your God brings you into
the land you are about to enter and
occupy, he will clear away many nations
ahead of you: the Hittites, Girgashites,
Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites,
and Jebusites. These seven nations are
all more powerful than you. When the
LORD your God hands these nations over
to you and you conquer them, you must
completely destroy them. Make no
treaties with them and show them no
mercy. Do not intermarry with them, and
don’t let your daughters and sons marry
their sons and daughters.
7. Wrecked By Lack Of Trust
They will lead your young people away
from me to worship other gods. Then the
anger of the LORD will burn against you,
and he will destroy you.
Deuteronomy 7:2-4
8. Wrecked By Lack Of Trust
It is not at all because you are such
righteous, upright people that you are
about to occupy their land. The LORD
your God will drive these nations out
ahead of you only because of their
wickedness, and to fulfill the oath he
had sworn to your ancestors Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob.
Deuteronomy 9:5

17. Wrecked By Lack Of Trust
The LORD is slow to anger and rich in
unfailing love, forgiving every kind of
sin and rebellion. Even so he does not
leave sin unpunished.
Numbers 14:18
22. Wrecked By Idolatry
Israel failed to destroy the nations in the
land, as the LORD had told them to.
Instead, they mingled among the pagans
and adopted their evil customs. They
worshiped their idols, and this led to their
downfall. They even sacrificed their sons
and their daughters to the demons. They
shed innocent blood, the blood of their
sons and daughters. By sacrificing them
to the idols of Canaan, they polluted the
land with murder. They defiled themselves
by their evil deeds, and their love of idols
was adultery in the LORD’s sight.
Psalm 106:34-39
25. Wrecked By Greed
• His own throne.
• His gold shields.
• His gold goblet and all his
household articles.
1 Kings 10:16-21
26. Wrecked By Greed
“The Jewish Tribes considered the
whole system to be a humiliating form
of extortion.”
Warren Wiersbe,
1 Kings Commentary
27. Wrecked By Greed
Those who love money will never have
enough. How absurd to think that wealth
brings true happiness!
Ecclesiastes 5:10
28. Wrecked By Greed
“There is not a more melancholy and
astonishing instance of human depravity
in the sacred Scriptures, than that here
recorded. Solomon became a public
worshipper of abominable idols! Probably
he by degrees gave way to pride and
luxury, and thus lost his relish for true
wisdom. Nothing forms in itself a security
against the deceitfulness and depravity
of the human heart. Nor will old age cure
the heart of any evil propensity.”
29. Wrecked By Greed
“If our sinful passions are not crucified
and mortified by the grace of God, they
never will die of themselves, but will last
even when opportunities to gratify them
are taken away. Let him that thinks he
stands, take heed lest he fall. We see how
weak we are of ourselves, without the
grace of God; let us therefore live in con-
stant dependence on that grace. Let us
watch and be sober: ours is a dangerous
warfare, and in an enemy’s country,
while our worst foes are the traitors in
our own hearts.”
Matthew Henry
30. How to Protect Yourself
From Falling Into the Sins
of Solomon
1. Don’t flirt with the world.
2. If you sin, admit it.
3. Get help.
4. Be grateful for all you have.
Whatever is good and perfect comes to us
from God above, who created all heaven's
lights. Unlike them, he never changes or
casts shifting shadows.
James 1:17
