Title IX Essay examples
Title IX
Great inequalities in the educational system between the sexes have occurred for many years and
still occur today. Efforts have been made to rectify this disparity, but the one that has made the most
difference is Title IX. Passed in 1972, Title IX attempted to correct the gender discrimination in
educational systems receiving public funding. The greatest correction it made was in the area of
athletics, but social justice of Title IX applies to many other areas as well. Title IX has an effect on
women who are not athletes in many ways, including quality of education, receptivity to education,
empowerment and creation of ideals.
Title IX qualifies as a social justice issue because it addresses social inequalities. Women...show

They could still receive a quality education from their school and thus have the opportunity for
further advancement in life. Pregnant students could still enjoy normal student involvement and not
be stigmatized, as teenage mothers often are. For pregnant students, Title IX could change their lives.
Sexual harassment has been a problem in school situations; it inhibits a student's ability to learn since
the student concentrates on the problem of dealing with the harassment instead of concentrating on
her education. This occurrence of harassment can make a student fearful of going to school, fearful
of authority figures and distrustful of adults in general. A woman who either is fearful or distrustful
of men or women at an early age can suffer social inhibitions prohibiting her advancement through
life. Title IX's prohibition on sexual harassment frees students from these fears and leaves them able
to lead a normal life. Although Title IX does not eliminate the possibility of sexual harassment
altogether, it does provide recourse to the student and the student's family through means of liability
damages. Restrictions are placed on when the liability comes into effect, but it is a step forward in
dealing with sexual harassment.
The benefits to female students interested in athletics are obvious, but a secondary benefit to the rest
of the female community is

Challenges That I Face As Writer Essay
As a writer there are many elements of writing that I struggle with, especially when composing an
essay. When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be
successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully
developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on
incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back
to my thesis. Lastly, improvement can be made in my writing by avoiding awkward or wordy
sentences. Writers face numerous challenges in their writing but strive to overcome or improve these
challenges with each piece they write. Writers often face certain...show more content...
I am looking to improve on this challenge as a writer by focusing on explaining my quotes and
explanations in a more supportive way that relates back to the thesis. Writing can be improved
upon endlessly by minimizing your challenges as a writer. In writing an essay I also struggle with
incorporating clear topic sentences and connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis
statement. This struggle is based on last years' experience with writing essays. This struggle can
be improved upon by concentrating on what exactly my thesis is stating and building my
sentences to relate and explain the thesis further. Improving on this will allow my writing ability
to increase and help me become a more successful writer. When composing an essay, or journal
entry, or just plain writing, I struggle as a writer with avoiding awkward or wordy phases in my
written work. This struggle is yet again based on last year's experience and feedback from my
English class. Improvement with this struggle can be made by the following strategies: reading over
my paper more carefully, avoiding the use of words that sound intelligent but don't flow with the
paper, and editing my paper with peers. Recognizing this struggle and following these strategies
would improve my writing. Writers develop strategies that help them to overcome or improve upon
their struggles and challenges in their writing. As a

Appearance Essays
For as long as anyone can remember, people and have been judge and have judged others on
various things including appearance. Appearance says a lot who we are individually as well as
collectively. Contrary to what people believe, how we dress or present ourselves conveys who
we are and how we may be, regardless of whether it is correct or not. Appearance can be equally
important as knowledge in the field when it comes to the workplace. Every day we are told to
dress the part, to convey the proper message but what part are we exactly dressing for and what
are we trying to convey? This idea is commonly confusing as jobs nowadays are now becoming
more lenient with what is tolerated or acceptable for dress codes in the workplace. Things that...show

It may seem shallow to be concerned about your appearance in the workplace but in actuality, it can
be the determining factor in who gets hired and how well one may do on a performance review.
Dressing appropriately can set you apart from others who may be less concerned about projecting
professional image (Gavzer, 2008) It can also guarantee the future of the organization, especially in
this highly competitive business environment (Hanley, 2009).
If a professional looks conveys more attributes, why do we see an increasing movement toward
business casual and all casual attires in the workplace. Many believe the change was influenced by
the boom in the "eBusiness" and "dot.com" along with the economic recession in the 1990's. Some
would like to blame Generation X college graduates for this movement. Others consider the rise in
casual clothing being produced to be an influencing factor in casualness (Kiddie, 2009, Ryan 2010).
By the middle of the 1990s, a majority of businesses had implemented a relaxed look in their
workplace, having one business casual day a week. This has changed with more companies going
casual every day (Cruz, 2009). But what exactly is business casual? It is hard to give this concept a
concrete definition as the rules and regulations of business attire may vary from workplace to
workplace. However, in layman's terms it

How My Writing Has Improved
After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the
skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at
grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise.
Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further
on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the
poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of
expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult
for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive
and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I
have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill
was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at
organization and careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers
without any plans or organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the
assignments, but throughout this course I've learned that you should base your paper around your
thesis statement. Another skill I took from this class was to value my classmate's responses, from
their reactions made me much more aware that my main ideas

Roles and Responsibility Essay
Roles and Responsibilities
This essay is to evaluate what your role, responsibilities and boundaries as a teacher would be in
terms of the teaching/training cycle.
In order for one to completely explore the task expected from the author, it is paramount to
understand the meaning of the terminology used in this essay.
The author begins by giving a brief definition of "role".
According to the dictionary, role is defined as one's part, expected function, job, duty, task,
responsibility. Readers' digest. Whilst, online dictionary, Encarta (1998–2005) claim added that,
"role" is usual or expected function, characteristic or expected pattern of behaviour. On the other

As a teacher, one's role and responsibility should be towards the learners' ability to learn and for

Moreover, Francis and Gould (2009), when on further by adding that, our expectation as a teacher,
trainer, assessor or tutor is checking and reporting learner's attendance and achievement, treating all
learners with fairness, equal respect, giving opportunity to get involved, encouraging all,
acknowledging diversity and differentiation. Keep up to date with subject development to mention a
few, which also includes current legislation such as health and safety act 1974, manual handling
operation 1992, RIDDOR, sex discrimination act 1975.
Furthermore, Huddleston and Unwin (2008) p85 uses diversity and change in their research. "Where
will I teach" and "who will I teach". Furthermore, that "adult teach and learn in one another's
company, they find themselves engaged in a challenging, passionate and creative activity", and that

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the
whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for
navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I
have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in
English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

Essay on Labeling Theory
The Labeling Theory is the view that labels people are given affect their own and others'
perception of them, thus channeling their behavior either into deviance or into conformity. Labels
can be positive and/or negative, but I'll focus on the negative aspects of labeling in high school.
Everybody has a label in high school whether it is the "slut", "pothead", "freak" or the "jock"; it is
one of the most apparent time periods in which individuals get labeled. Students have the mentality
that whatever label is placed on them is going to be stuck with them forever, which then leads into a
self–fulfilling prophecy. This, I feel, is a fear of being a "loser" that has been instilled throughout
years by the principals, teachers, etc. An example...show more content...
She'll eventually accept it or have the mentality of "they see me as this, why not become this",
then she'll have fulfilled the prophecy. This label might stay with her past high school, but I
think that depends on the way she presents herself to different groups of people, if seen or labeled
differently by another group she would probably conform to this as well. Another common label
used is "geek" or "nerd". This label can be taken in both a positive or negative way but mostly
seen as a negative label in high school. This seems to demonstrate that when a student exhibits
intelligence they are then labeled as "geeks" or "nerds". This label group seems to be affiliated to
harassment by other groups mainly "jocks". This harassment of intelligent people can lead to the
desire of being ignorant in order to become more accepted. This is shown by the media through
movies, and shows "geeks" and "nerds" as being weak. When people are seen as different, or have
different views, opinion, or even dress, outside of the norms presented in school or any environment,
they are segregated by society by placing labels, which creates "outsiders". This labeling shows how
society fears differences in opinions and then demonizes the people with different views, and this is
seen in everyday American society. A great way to summarize the labeling theory and self
–fulfilling
prophecy, is by a quote by Tannenbaum "the process of making the criminal is therefore the process

Private Schools vs. Public Schools Essay
Parents often wonder how to start off their children's education. Depending on ones religion or
beliefs a private or public school is a choice most parents face. Of course, each school offers it's own
pros and con's the choice is simple. Public schools offer the best well rounding of a student.
While being enrolled in a public school, students are faced with real outside world problems, are
with a different blend of students each year, and are also introduced to the latest technology faster.

the other hand, in Private schools they only provide the necessary classes required by the state. In
some intermediate private schools, Home Economics and Shop classes Brady 2 aren't even offered.
Unlike Public schools these classes have been offered since fifth or sixth grade and up. The
uniforms in private schools ones child will be wearing would not allow the child to show character
in his self. Uniforms may make life easier in the long run, but think of how many different ways in
style people express themselves. There's skater, prep, sporty, gothic, hippie, or whatever is

convertible to them. The sports in private schools aren't that excelled as ones in public schools.
Like in private intermediate schools there are not a variety of sports. Public schools offer sports as
young as their primary schools. Sports in Public schools seem to be widely known and are more
funded. The money that Public schools receive go towards uniforms, equipment, and top of the line
coach's. Public schools show to the community that they will educate and well round you child better

Essay about the human brain
In this paper one will learn the different parts of the brain and their functions. Although the brain isn't
the largest organ of the human body it is the most complex and controlling organ. It is amazing how
complicated the brain is. The brain controls every action within and out of your body. The brain has
main areas that contain different areas that have specific functions. For instance the basal ganglia
holds the lentiform and the caudate.
The brain isn't just "THE BRAIN" it is actually a group of many parts. They help to inform the brain
on the things going on with the human body. The brain is split in to two main parts, the left and the
right hemisphere. The left hemisphere has about the same areas as the right hemisphere. The only

and processes information concerning touch, pain, temperature, and pressure on skin is the
thalamus. The limbic system controls your behavior and emotions. It is involved in emotions such
as fear, rage, pleasure, and sorrow. In the prefrontal area of the frontal lobe emotional traits are
controlled. In the temporal lobe expressed behavior is controlled. The parietal lobe discriminates
sensory. The occipital lobe is where visual interpretation takes place. Pons is a crossroad for nerves
going up to the cortex, to the cerebellum and then down the spinal cord. The cortex is the outer gray
area where thinking takes place. The olfactory cortex receives senses from the nose that it then sorts
out. The area that identifies what we see by working out movements, colors, and shapes is the visual
cortex. The area that receives taste senses is called gustatory cortex. The area responsible for
analyzing data, performing memory functions, learning new information, forming thoughts, and
making decisions is the cerebral cortex. The motor cortex is involved in muscle movement. The
cerebellum is vital when carrying out complicated, skilled movements. It is much like a mini brain.
If before you read this paper you thought the brain was a "one man machine" I'm sure your opinion
has changed after reading his paper. It is amazing how god has created the brain to have so many

Describe Myself As A Student
Describe yourself as a student and also your aspirations for the future. Please include examples from

in fulfilling my personal and academic goals, and am an explorative student. My passion for learning
is the result of my mindset, in that aside from finding education a necessity, it is enjoyable,
challenging, and beneficial in fulfilling my future aspirations. For example, I find my Honors

present data or information, and understand higher–level math at a rapid pace. In particular, it is the
ability to solve real–world situations and the underlying mystery mathematicians have yet to solve
that intrigues me to continue learning. The class expects much of me, but I am aware that it is
preparing me for college– and university–level math while providing me with the skills to pursue a
career in Architectural/ Structural Engineering. Ambitious, I set objectives for myself and arrange to

youths, between 12–18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1

Only in the past two decades, have depression and suicide been taken seriously. Depression is an
illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts. Depression affects the way a person eats and

Adolescence is a stressful experience for all teens. It is a time of physical and social changes
producing rapid mood swings from sadness to elation. Even an emotionally healthy teenager may
have the constant fear of not being good enough, not making the varsity team, or getting good
grades. Special situations such as a parents divorce can trigger intense sadness and feelings of
wanting to die.
People who usually experience depression, can seem fine. But there are many key signs to show that
they are depressed. Such as, change in school performance, eating habits change, constant
unhappiness, low self esteem, guilt, social isolation, inability to concentrate, irritable or angered
easily, or has a severe lost of energy.
For a teen suffering from severe depression, has feelings of worthlessness that dominates their day.
Despair is ever present and emotional pain feels like it will never end. Any situation of anger or

My Definition of Success Essay example
"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value."
– Albert Einstein ––
My personal definition would not include "stuff" at all. No one will care (and neither will you)
what kind of car your drove or how big your house was when you're on your deathbed. Your
thoughts will not be about your job, the office or how much money you made.
Personal success is defined by how content and enjoyable your life is. That is not to say that
challenges and disappointments aren't included in this. A rich, eventful and challenging life doing
what you enjoy and positively affecting others seems to me to be just about right. Find a job you

Past, present and future are all important to keep in perspective. Looking back and not having regrets
is extremely satisfying. Your current situation and your contentment with it are also very important,
and having goals and milestones to work toward in the future keeps you motivated and keeps life
interesting and challenging.
In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or
the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I
grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most
successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination.
They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the
$55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would
enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company,
moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed
to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is
practiced, things won't spin out of control.
Bottom line rules for a successful life:
Always try new things.
Listen twice as much as you talk.
Travel as much as you can comfortably afford.
Faith and family always come first –

Thesis Statement : Global Warming
Thesis Statement: Global warming is a growing concern of scientists and researchers who believe
that it is a serious problem for our planet. The concerns and research have also been questioned and
have even been called myths. Millions of people find themselves affected by these weather pattern
changes and are concerned for their futures. Activists on both sides of the argument are very
passionate and not afraid to attack each other in every way they can. There are many questions that
are still not answered, however, we continue to see drastic weather changes to Earth. We must go
beyond the arguments and learn as much as we can to stop what could possibly lead to the
destruction of our planet, our way of life and our future.
Global warming is concerned with an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere and the
increase in the Earth 's surface temperature primarily due to the emission of greenhouse gases from
the burning of fossil fuels. As for the processes of global warming, they can occur from a variety of
causes. The causes include the things that are concerned with natural and human factors.
Some people believe that global warming is a myth or hoax. They believe that global warming is
being used to generate fear and panic and that those behind this movement are using it to control

Grit Essay Examples
Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength
of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with
grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to
overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost
any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face.
However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to
obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective.

I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year
I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times,
lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I
set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when
I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team
won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The
transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of
becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I
wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people
that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being
physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone
has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to
an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use
the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe
that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent
are just the starting point.

Ted Talk Essay
When it comes to choice it always seems to be a love hate relationship: we hate making them, but
we can't live without them. Anyone can all look back to a time in our lives where they wish
someone could just pick for us, or times when we wish there were more to choose from. All
Americans have many choices, and it is such a part of our daily lives that we don't even realize it.
Barry Schwartz and Sheena Iyengar's TED talks bring up interesting ideas about choice, how people
deal with them and their affects. They both state that although choice is good, it can also have
negative effects. Schwartz explains what most people believe and experience with choice, while
Iyengar shows cultural differences in choice making. Both Schwartz and Iyengar...show more

The second is the more choices the more likely that the best choice can be made, and the third
assumption is that you should never say no to choice. Iyengard evaluates these three assumptions
with various studies where one group is American and the other is another culture. Her studies
help understand why and how Americans make choices in comparison to the rest of the world.
Without doubt, Iyengard's studies and analysis on choice is interesting but Schwartz's was
clearer because it easily communicated the message that was more applicable to the public.
Choices are an important part of everyone's lives and the choices we make can reflex who we are
as individuals. Choice and the ability to choose are excellent and can represent a sense of
freedom. Schwartz's and Iyengard's analysis on choice focused on the effects of choice in people
and how people react and deal with it. Schwartz's Official Dogma and explanation of how
Americans act in response to choice making is the most relatable to individuals and clearly chows
the consequences of too much choice. His analysis can assist to people realize that maybe because
we have more choice doesn't necessarily mean we will make us happier or the best decision will be

The Underwater World

In the early 1950's, rubber suits were designed. They were used to keep the diver warm. These old
"dry suits" were worn over long underwear and sweat suits or sweaters. The clothing acted as an
insulator, and the rubber suit was used to simply keep the insulation dry. But when the easily
punctured "dry suits" were torn, the insulation became wet, thus causing the insulation to be
ineffective. But a new suit, called the "wet suit" was invented. The wet suit actually strapped a
thin layer of water next to the diver's body, which soon heated up to body temperature and acted
as insulation. Nowadays, foam neoprene is used for all wet suits. When the demand for wet suits
increased, manufacturers developed the standard small, medium, and large sizes. As the market

Descriptive Essay About Losing A Pet
Among the saddest truths about this lifetime is this: A dog's life is significantly shorter than a
human's life. I said goodbye to my beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Samson, on March 26th, 2017.
He was ten years old. It is an opinion to say that losing a pet is like losing a member of the family.
The fact is, though, it is an understatement. Dogs are unique in their own ways. As it is said,
"Grief is the price you pay for love." And I paid a heavy priced that day. It is unbelievable how we
take things for granted. Plans are made for each day, and we do not think twice about those plans.
Unfortunately, they can change in the blink of an eye. I never personally thought much about it,
until I was faced with the shock and tragedy of the death...show more content...
Pam Brown once said, "If there is a heaven, it is certain our animals are to be there. Their lives
become so interwoven with our own than an archangel to detangle them (Brown,n.d.)." He is now
buried in our backyard with his own stone with the words, "You may have left my life, but you will
never leave my heart" engraved. We received many sympathy cards, but it did not make the
situation any better. However, it was nice to know my friends and family cared. It was the
saddest time in my life. Not a day goes by that I do not think about him. It is very tough to not
break down when I think or talk about him. He was a special boy. For the longest time, there was
a void feeling in my house. A hole was left in my family's hearts. I knew Samson would have
wanted me to give his doggie bed and squeak toys to another deserving dog. He had a wet nose and a
huge heart. Once, in the first week following his passing, I came through my front door and
looked at the area where he would usually be sitting or lying. I called for him with the foolish
notation that he would appear and come running to me. But of course, he did not. Then, I walked
past his empty food bowls and tears started running down my face. It was a shattering reminder that
he was gone and never coming back. Grief was exhausting and painful to say the least. The day after
Samson died, I could not drag myself out of bed. I missed school that day. I could not bear the
feeling of coming home, and him not waiting for me

How To Title An Essay

  • 1. Title IX Essay examples Title IX Great inequalities in the educational system between the sexes have occurred for many years and still occur today. Efforts have been made to rectify this disparity, but the one that has made the most difference is Title IX. Passed in 1972, Title IX attempted to correct the gender discrimination in educational systems receiving public funding. The greatest correction it made was in the area of athletics, but social justice of Title IX applies to many other areas as well. Title IX has an effect on women who are not athletes in many ways, including quality of education, receptivity to education, empowerment and creation of ideals. Title IX qualifies as a social justice issue because it addresses social inequalities. Women...show more content... They could still receive a quality education from their school and thus have the opportunity for further advancement in life. Pregnant students could still enjoy normal student involvement and not be stigmatized, as teenage mothers often are. For pregnant students, Title IX could change their lives. Sexual harassment has been a problem in school situations; it inhibits a student's ability to learn since the student concentrates on the problem of dealing with the harassment instead of concentrating on her education. This occurrence of harassment can make a student fearful of going to school, fearful of authority figures and distrustful of adults in general. A woman who either is fearful or distrustful of men or women at an early age can suffer social inhibitions prohibiting her advancement through life. Title IX's prohibition on sexual harassment frees students from these fears and leaves them able to lead a normal life. Although Title IX does not eliminate the possibility of sexual harassment altogether, it does provide recourse to the student and the student's family through means of liability damages. Restrictions are placed on when the liability comes into effect, but it is a step forward in dealing with sexual harassment. The benefits to female students interested in athletics are obvious, but a secondary benefit to the rest of the female community is Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis. This struggle is based on last years' experience with writing essays. This struggle can be improved upon by concentrating on what exactly my thesis is stating and building my sentences to relate and explain the thesis further. Improving on this will allow my writing ability to increase and help me become a more successful writer. When composing an essay, or journal entry, or just plain writing, I struggle as a writer with avoiding awkward or wordy phases in my written work. This struggle is yet again based on last year's experience and feedback from my English class. Improvement with this struggle can be made by the following strategies: reading over my paper more carefully, avoiding the use of words that sound intelligent but don't flow with the paper, and editing my paper with peers. Recognizing this struggle and following these strategies would improve my writing. Appearance says a lot who we are individually as well as collectively. Contrary to what people believe, how we dress or present ourselves conveys who we are and how we may be, regardless of whether it is correct or not. Appearance can be equally important as knowledge in the field when it comes to the workplace. Every day we are told to dress the part, to convey the proper message but what part are we exactly dressing for and what are we trying to convey? This idea is commonly confusing as jobs nowadays are now becoming more lenient with what is tolerated or acceptable for dress codes in the workplace. Things that...show more content... It may seem shallow to be concerned about your appearance in the workplace but in actuality, it can be the determining factor in who gets hired and how well one may do on a performance review. Dressing appropriately can set you apart from others who may be less concerned about projecting professional image (Gavzer, 2008) It can also guarantee the future of the organization, especially in this highly competitive business environment (Hanley, 2009). If a professional looks conveys more attributes, why do we see an increasing movement toward business casual and all casual attires in the workplace. Many believe the change was influenced by the boom in the "eBusiness" and "dot.com" along with the economic recession in the 1990's. Some would like to blame Generation X college graduates for this movement. Others consider the rise in casual clothing being produced to be an influencing factor in casualness (Kiddie, 2009, Ryan 2010). By the middle of the 1990s, a majority of businesses had implemented a relaxed look in their workplace, having one business casual day a week. This has changed with more companies going casual every day (Cruz, 2009). But what exactly is business casual? It is hard to give this concept a concrete definition as the rules and regulations of business attire may vary from workplace to workplace. However, in layman's terms it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. How My Writing Has Improved After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise. Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at organization and careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers without any plans or organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the assignments, but throughout this course I've learned that you should base your paper around your thesis statement. Another skill I took from this class was to value my classmate's responses, from their reactions made me much more aware that my main ideas Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. Reflection On My English 101 Experience Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. • 8. Essay on Labeling Theory The Labeling Theory is the view that labels people are given affect their own and others' perception of them, thus channeling their behavior either into deviance or into conformity. Labels can be positive and/or negative, but I'll focus on the negative aspects of labeling in high school. Everybody has a label in high school whether it is the "slut", "pothead", "freak" or the "jock"; it is one of the most apparent time periods in which individuals get labeled. Students have the mentality that whatever label is placed on them is going to be stuck with them forever, which then leads into a self–fulfilling prophecy. This, I feel, is a fear of being a "loser" that has been instilled throughout years by the principals, teachers, etc. An example...show more content... She'll eventually accept it or have the mentality of "they see me as this, why not become this", then she'll have fulfilled the prophecy. This label might stay with her past high school, but I think that depends on the way she presents herself to different groups of people, if seen or labeled differently by another group she would probably conform to this as well. Another common label used is "geek" or "nerd". This label can be taken in both a positive or negative way but mostly seen as a negative label in high school. This seems to demonstrate that when a student exhibits intelligence they are then labeled as "geeks" or "nerds". This label group seems to be affiliated to harassment by other groups mainly "jocks". This harassment of intelligent people can lead to the desire of being ignorant in order to become more accepted. This is shown by the media through movies, and shows "geeks" and "nerds" as being weak. When people are seen as different, or have different views, opinion, or even dress, outside of the norms presented in school or any environment, they are segregated by society by placing labels, which creates "outsiders". This labeling shows how society fears differences in opinions and then demonizes the people with different views, and this is seen in everyday American society. A great way to summarize the labeling theory and self –fulfilling prophecy, is by a quote by Tannenbaum "the process of making the criminal is therefore the process of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The parietal lobe discriminates sensory. The occipital lobe is where visual interpretation takes place. Pons is a crossroad for nerves going up to the cortex, to the cerebellum and then down the spinal cord. The cortex is the outer gray area where thinking takes place. The olfactory cortex receives senses from the nose that it then sorts out. The area that identifies what we see by working out movements, colors, and shapes is the visual cortex. The area that receives taste senses is called gustatory cortex. The area responsible for analyzing data, performing memory functions, learning new information, forming thoughts, and making decisions is the cerebral cortex. The motor cortex is involved in muscle movement. The cerebellum is vital when carrying out complicated, skilled movements. It is much like a mini brain. A sophomore at Downtown Magnets High School, I demonstrate passion in my education, ambition in fulfilling my personal and academic goals, and am an explorative student. My passion for learning is the result of my mindset, in that aside from finding education a necessity, it is enjoyable, challenging, and beneficial in fulfilling my future aspirations. For example, I find my Honors Advanced Mathematics class my most unique course. It builds upon my ability to critically think, present data or information, and understand higher–level math at a rapid pace. In particular, it is the ability to solve real–world situations and the underlying mystery mathematicians have yet to solve that intrigues me to continue learning. The class expects much of me, but I am aware that it is preparing me for college– and university–level math while providing me with the skills to pursue a career in Architectural/ Structural Engineering. Ambitious, I set objectives for myself and arrange to accomplish and excel in the process. For instance, I participated in my middle school's academic decathlon with a chance to represent my school in the mathematics single–subject exam. Only in the past two decades, have depression and suicide been taken seriously. Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts. Even an emotionally healthy teenager may have the constant fear of not being good enough, not making the varsity team, or getting good grades. Special situations such as a parents divorce can trigger intense sadness and feelings of wanting to die. People who usually experience depression, can seem fine. But there are many key signs to show that they are depressed. My Definition of Success Essay example "Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value." – Albert Einstein –– My personal definition would not include "stuff" at all. No one will care (and neither will you) what kind of car your drove or how big your house was when you're on your deathbed. Your thoughts will not be about your job, the office or how much money you made. Personal success is defined by how content and enjoyable your life is. That is not to say that challenges and disappointments aren't included in this. A rich, eventful and challenging life doing what you enjoy and positively affecting others seems to me to be just about right. Find a job you love and you'll never work another day in your life. I know I won't. In my...show more content... Past, present and future are all important to keep in perspective. Looking back and not having regrets is extremely satisfying. Your current situation and your contentment with it are also very important, and having goals and milestones to work toward in the future keeps you motivated and keeps life interesting and challenging. In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination. They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the $55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company, moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is practiced, things won't spin out of control. Bottom line rules for a successful life: Always try new things. Listen twice as much as you talk. Travel as much as you can comfortably afford. Faith and family always come first – Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Thesis Statement : Global Warming Thesis Statement: Global warming is a growing concern of scientists and researchers who believe that it is a serious problem for our planet. The concerns and research have also been questioned and have even been called myths. Millions of people find themselves affected by these weather pattern changes and are concerned for their futures. Activists on both sides of the argument are very passionate and not afraid to attack each other in every way they can. There are many questions that are still not answered, however, we continue to see drastic weather changes to Earth. We must go beyond the arguments and learn as much as we can to stop what could possibly lead to the destruction of our planet, our way of life and our future. Global warming is concerned with an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere and the increase in the Earth 's surface temperature primarily due to the emission of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels. As for the processes of global warming, they can occur from a variety of causes. The causes include the things that are concerned with natural and human factors. Some people believe that global warming is a myth or hoax. They believe that global warming is being used to generate fear and panic and that those behind this movement are using it to control people 's lives and for financial gain. • 15. I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the "Common Sense" textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the "Subjects and Strategies" textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past...show more content... This allowed me to write more extensively on the topic I had chosen which in turn helped expand the size of my research paper. I received a B on my final draft; the first passing grade I have ever received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal, narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them. For my exemplification essay I chose to write about the reasons why condoms Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Grit Essay Examples Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face. However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective. By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content... I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times, lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent are just the starting point. • 17. Ted Talk Essay When it comes to choice it always seems to be a love hate relationship: we hate making them, but we can't live without them. Anyone can all look back to a time in our lives where they wish someone could just pick for us, or times when we wish there were more to choose from. All Americans have many choices, and it is such a part of our daily lives that we don't even realize it. Barry Schwartz and Sheena Iyengar's TED talks bring up interesting ideas about choice, how people deal with them and their affects. They both state that although choice is good, it can also have negative effects. Schwartz explains what most people believe and experience with choice, while Iyengar shows cultural differences in choice making. Both Schwartz and Iyengar...show more content... Iyengard evaluates these three assumptions with various studies where one group is American and the other is another culture. Her studies help understand why and how Americans make choices in comparison to the rest of the world. Without doubt, Iyengard's studies and analysis on choice is interesting but Schwartz's was clearer because it easily communicated the message that was more applicable to the public. Choices are an important part of everyone's lives and the choices we make can reflex who we are as individuals. Choice and the ability to choose are excellent and can represent a sense of freedom. Schwartz's and Iyengard's analysis on choice focused on the effects of choice in people and how people react and deal with it. Schwartz's Official Dogma and explanation of how Americans act in response to choice making is the most relatable to individuals and clearly chows the consequences of too much choice. His analysis can assist to people realize that maybe because we have more choice doesn't necessarily mean we will make us happier or the best decision will be made. • 18. Essay on The Underwater World The Underwater World "There you are, totally weightless, quietly soaring just above the sea floor with only the smallest amount of physical exertion. Small fish come out of their holes to look at you. How about that? You are the curiosity. You are the thing that does not belong. Perhaps this is why you dive. You are taking part in exploring man's last ecological frontier. The very thought would excite anyone whose blood still flows in his veins. The diver is the observer, he looks at everything he can. He totally forgets the outside world" (Reseck 4). When I first read this piece, I got goosebumps. For years man has explored this vast universe, spending millions of dollars, and only making a tiny scratch on its surface. For me, to...show more content... In the early 1950's, rubber suits were designed. They were used to keep the diver warm. These old "dry suits" were worn over long underwear and sweat suits or sweaters. The clothing acted as an insulator, and the rubber suit was used to simply keep the insulation dry. But when the easily punctured "dry suits" were torn, the insulation became wet, thus causing the insulation to be ineffective. But a new suit, called the "wet suit" was invented. The wet suit actually strapped a thin layer of water next to the diver's body, which soon heated up to body temperature and acted as insulation. Nowadays, foam neoprene is used for all wet suits. When the demand for wet suits increased, manufacturers developed the standard small, medium, and large sizes. As the market continued to grow, the neoprene material was improved by making it softer and more flexible. A backing was also added on the neoprene to increase its durability and service. The market grew larger still, and ready made suits came in extra small, small, medium, medium large, large, and extra large sizes. Today, almost anyone can walk into a store and come out with a good suit that fits (Reseck 17). • 19. Descriptive Essay About Losing A Pet Among the saddest truths about this lifetime is this: A dog's life is significantly shorter than a human's life. I said goodbye to my beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Samson, on March 26th, 2017. He was ten years old. It is an opinion to say that losing a pet is like losing a member of the family. The fact is, though, it is an understatement. Dogs are unique in their own ways. As it is said, "Grief is the price you pay for love." And I paid a heavy priced that day. It is unbelievable how we take things for granted. Plans are made for each day, and we do not think twice about those plans. Unfortunately, they can change in the blink of an eye. I never personally thought much about it, until I was faced with the shock and tragedy of the death...show more content... Pam Brown once said, "If there is a heaven, it is certain our animals are to be there. Their lives become so interwoven with our own than an archangel to detangle them (Brown,n.d.)." He is now buried in our backyard with his own stone with the words, "You may have left my life, but you will never leave my heart" engraved. We received many sympathy cards, but it did not make the situation any better. However, it was nice to know my friends and family cared. It was the saddest time in my life. Not a day goes by that I do not think about him. It is very tough to not break down when I think or talk about him. He was a special boy. For the longest time, there was a void feeling in my house. A hole was left in my family's hearts. I knew Samson would have wanted me to give his doggie bed and squeak toys to another deserving dog. He had a wet nose and a huge heart. Once, in the first week following his passing, I came through my front door and looked at the area where he would usually be sitting or lying. I called for him with the foolish notation that he would appear and come running to me. But of course, he did not. Then, I walked past his empty food bowls and tears started running down my face. It was a shattering reminder that he was gone and never coming back. Grief was exhausting and painful to say the least. The day after Samson died, I could not drag myself out of bed. I missed school that day. I could not bear the feeling of coming home, and him not waiting for me Get more content on HelpWriting.net
