How My Writing Has Improved
After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the
skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at
grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise.
Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further
on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the
poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of
expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult
for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive
and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I
have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill
was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at

Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I

the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class

I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year
I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times,
lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I
set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when
I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team
won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The
transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of
becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I
wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people
that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being
physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone
has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to
an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use
the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe

In the early 1950's, rubber suits were designed. They were used to keep the diver warm. These old
"dry suits" were worn over long underwear and sweat suits or sweaters. The clothing acted as an
insulator, and the rubber suit was used to simply keep the insulation dry. But when the easily
punctured "dry suits" were torn, the insulation became wet, thus causing the insulation to be
ineffective. But a new suit, called the "wet suit" was invented. The wet suit actually strapped a
thin layer of water next to the diver's body, which soon heated up to body temperature and acted
as insulation. Nowadays, foam neoprene is used for all wet suits. When the demand for wet suits
increased, manufacturers developed the standard small, medium, and large sizes. As the market
continued to grow, the neoprene material was improved by making it softer and more flexible. A
backing was also added on the neoprene to increase its durability and service. The market grew
larger still, and ready made suits came in extra small, small, medium, medium large, large, and
extra large sizes. Today, almost anyone can walk into a store and come out with a good suit that fits

Among the saddest truths about this lifetime is this: A dog's life is significantly shorter than a
human's life. I said goodbye to my beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Samson, on March 26th, 2017.
He was ten years old. It is an opinion to say that losing a pet is like losing a member of the family.
The fact is, though, it is an understatement. Dogs are unique in their own ways. As it is said,
"Grief is the price you pay for love." And I paid a heavy priced that day. It is unbelievable how we
take things for granted. Plans are made for each day, and we do not think twice about those plans.

buried in our backyard with his own stone with the words, "You may have left my life, but you will
never leave my heart" engraved. We received many sympathy cards, but it did not make the
situation any better. However, it was nice to know my friends and family cared. It was the

break down when I think or talk about him. He was a special boy. For the longest time, there was
a void feeling in my house. A hole was left in my family's hearts. I knew Samson would have
wanted me to give his doggie bed and squeak toys to another deserving dog. He had a wet nose and a
huge heart. Once, in the first week following his passing, I came through my front door and
looked at the area where he would usually be sitting or lying. I called for him with the foolish
notation that he would appear and come running to me. But of course, he did not. Then, I walked
past his empty food bowls and tears started running down my face. It was a shattering reminder that
he was gone and never coming back. Grief was exhausting and painful to say the least. The day after
Samson died, I could not drag myself out of bed. I missed school that day. I could not bear the
feeling of coming home, and him not waiting for me
