Minecraft Essay
Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using
the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the
trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been
released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man,
Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that
it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a
company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he
realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content...
The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on
January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity
increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and
published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000
a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang
has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl
Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few
people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few
employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who
buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such
success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans.
One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it
truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will
they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation
concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same
genre. What if nobody likes the game? What

Good technical communication is key to preventing mistakes in the medical field. Physicians
need technical communication to do a procedure and hospitals need it for policies. While
completing assignments in this class I have learned how to properly explain an object to a
general audience who isn't familiar with the object, as in a blood pressure cuff. I have also learned
how to write a set of instructions for an audience who does not know how to do a certain task, like
how to use an epi–pen for example. The skills I have learned throughout this course will help me in
the future on making instructions for employees, describing objects to patients, or simply sending a

Out of the three goals, (Personal, educational, and professional) I chose two of the goals that I am
focusing on and that is my personal and educational goals. For my personal goals, I want to create
a big picture of what I plan to do in life. Then I want to break them down in order to reach my
goals, then once I have them together, then I would start working on them to achieve them. For
example(Specific and Measurable goals), I plan on finding a job that has great benefits and the best
rate of pay, and one that does not require working on weekends(Monday–Friday only), and not
working overtime....show more content...
I plan on earning my Master's Degree within a year of Graduation. While I am currently in school, I
will rely on my instructors, academic counselors, graduation team, the GCU Online Library, and the
school's other resources that will give me additional help when I need them. If I feel lost or a subject
seems too difficult, then I will ask e–mail my instructors and let he or she know that I am having
difficulty and that I need help. If I am feeling overwhelmed about school, I will seek the help and
advice of my academic counselor to help me come up with a solution to help me feel relaxed and not
stressed with taking online classes. I know that I will be successful if I always ask and seek help
here at GCU.
After all of this being said, I believe that I am a D1 in the development level, which is "The
Enthusiastic Beginner" (Low Competence/High Commitment). I would be enthusiastic and be
highly committed to doing my job if I were to have a certain position or even as a student in
school on certain levels in my program, but at the same time, I would and still do not yet know
all of the ropes yet. Right now I consider myself a very curious, inexperienced person who does
quite have the skills required for the job in hand or the things that I have learned in school so far,
but I am yet hopeful that I will learn to develop and learn more and more skills in the near future.

Essay on Government
Government
Government! You can't live with it! You can't live without it! It is the "common cold" that everyone
dreads. The American Heritage College Dictionary, Third Edition defines government as, "The
exercise of authority in a political unit in order to control and administer public policy." Webster's
Desk Dictionary of the English Language defines government as, "The political direction and control
exercised over a nation, state, community, etc." The common individual might define government as
the root of all evil. The thing about government is that no one stops to think about how government
came about.
Government falls into two categories; monarchy or a republic. A monarchy is a form of government
that is always headed by a...show more content...
King Fahad has complete control over it's citizens in all aspects pertaining to their country. Laws,
punishments, and regulations are in the hands of King Fahad.
If the government of a country does not fall into any of these categories, it is a republic. A republic
is defined in Webster's Desk Dictionary of the English Language as any government in which the
supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives
chosen directly or indirectly by them. There are three types of republics; dictatorship, oligarchy, or
democracy.
A dictatorship is a republic ruled by one individual. Cuba has a dictatorship. Fidel Castro is the
main contributor to Cuban society. He oversees his people yet allows his people the right to vote
him in or out of office.
An oligarchy is another type of republic. This type is ruled by a select few. An example of an
oligarchic society would be France. King Louis XV is king but he has a complete parliament to
assist him in the law making procedure of France.
The third type of republic is a democracy. A democracy is defined as a society ruled by the
majority. An example of a democratic republic would be the United States.
There are four theories that coincide with government; divine, natural, social compact, and force.
The divine theory was developed out of religion. The theory states that government ordained itself
from God, and its main purpose is

What Makes Art Good or Bad? Essay
A straightforward question, what is good art? A complicated answer, but that is good art. How
does a certain piece of artwork become recognized as "good?" What are some of the traits that
make art good? What simply makes art good, and what makes art bad, in general? Does having a
recognizable art or design "style" limit one's creativity? Is an exact reproduction as good as the
original? It used to be that anything called "Art" had certain meaning attached to it. Art was
assumed to be beautiful, intricate, and expensive, crafted with care by a master. Sometimes it told a
story, or marked a special day or event. Art was universally revered, instantly recognized, and
generally approached with awe, while today it is looked at much differently....show more content...
They tell a story, they solicit assessment and beckon all to view. Good art must have something to
do with being able to please the masses. No matter color, texture, media, shape or size; good art
must be pleasing to the greater majority of viewers to be considered good art. Some people like a
particular work simply because it pleases them. The colors, the shapes, the composition, all of it
appeals to their senses. Or, they might enjoy a painting or sculpture because it's worth a lot of
money. They can feel the importance, the history of it, in the price tag or estimated value. And of
course, an individual may like a work of art because a friend or expert has told them it's good, and
they just accept it.
A person may dislike art for even the same or opposite reasons: It just doesn't look nice; it's not
worth very much money; or someone has already told them that it's not very good. In addition, it's
very easy to compare works of art, and dislike one based on your feelings for the piece hanging on
the wall right next to it. Possibly the easiest reaction to have, disinterest can be caused by confusion
when looking at the work, or the viewer deciding that it doesn't fit their idea of art and discounting it.
It can also come from a decision against making the effort needed to understand the artwork, or just
the fact that the piece doesn't capture their attention.
Unfortunately, with art being as commonplace as it is, many artists and art

MLA Rough Draft
1.When writing, whether you paraphrase or directly quote someone else's ideas anywhere in your
paper, you must document the use of those borrowed ideas with an internal citation notation. In
MLA, there are two basic features of an internal citation. What are they?
In–text citation – This is a parenthetical citation within the paper that refers the reader to a list of
works cited. It commonly includes the author of the source and a page number, and punctuation
separates the author's last name and the page number. Nor is the abbreviation p. (for "page") used.
The period that ends the sentence appears after the closing parenthesis. 2.In MLA, if you work

In MLA, how are the works cited entries organized on the Work(s) Cited page?
пѓ Tell me how to arrange a works cited list on the page. No example required.
пЃ¶Create a new page at the end of your paper for a "Works Cited" list. Center the words "Works
Cited" at the top of the page. Double space after the title and begin entering citations.
пЃ¶Entries are listed alphabetically by the last name of the author or by the first major word of the
title if no author is given. If a source has more than one author, it is alphabetized by the last name of
the author whose name appears first. The entries are not numbered.
пЃ¶Entries are double–spaced.
пЃ¶The first line of each entry begins at the left margin. If more than one line is needed to complete
the entry, additional lines are indented five spaces or half an inch (this is called a hanging indent).
6.In MLA, if the source's identity is not worked into (written as part of) your sentence structure, how
does the internal citation look the first time you create it? Use your last name and page number 123
to illustrate your answer.
To correctly answer question 6, show me (don't tell me) how an internal citation looks the first time
you cite it in your paper, using your name as the source and page number 123 to complete your
response. You don't need to write a sentence first, just show me the

Essay on Listening for Understanding
Listening for Understanding
Listening is an important form of communication. Unfortunately, many people who do not know
how to listen believe they can listen well. They often say "I have been doing this all of my life of
course I can listen". Listening is not inherited, or a personality trait, it is a skill that must be worked
on and practiced.
Anybody can become a good listener if they are committed to learn how and are willing to work
hard. The first mistake that people tend to make when listening is to not make any type of
comments while listening. They tend to just stand there and listen while the speaker talks. This can
become very frustrating for the speaker and the listener. While the speaker may feel like he isn't being

Try to listen to what the speaker is trying to say and not to what is making you angry. Summarize
the main points of what the speaker was saying so that the focus is on the speaker and not you. It
is always important to try and listen objectively no matter what the speaker is trying to say. By
doing this, you will become a better listener and more able to communicate with others concerning
subjects that might normally make you angry to the point that you would no longer be able to carry
on a working conversation with that individual. This will make you especially valuable in the
management industry where, as a rule, people will come to you with problems that need to be
resolved.
It is important to listen carefully and to withhold personal judgement. This is especially true when the
subject matter or the position taken by the speaker is making you angry. In this circumstance, your
interjections, if not thoroughly thought through, may just make the person defensive. Problems can
also arise if you are too nice and give a lot of positive comments. People like it when they are being
praised. This can alter what the speaker is saying. If you continue to give positive comments the
speaker will continue to want more of them from you. If you want to find out what the speaker is
really thinking you need to listen and withhold evaluation.
As well as withholding evaluation one must also show patience. While many

What makes a good teacher? Essay
In my opinion, a good teacher should be one who puts her heart into teaching. This is because
only by doing so will the students feel their passion and hard work. When a teacher strives hard
for the students, students will put in their effort as well. If a teacher dislikes her job, goes to
classes in a bad mood, her teaching would also be affected and students would not be able to enjoy
lessons as well.
Another point that makes a good teacher would be his/her patience. Teachers should not get upset or
even worse, give up on the students who are not so strong in their studies. Instead, they should have
the patience to slowly coach them, give them extra lessons, and find different ways to encourage
them. Let them know that the teacher...show more content...

feel like there's no one to talk to, I'll be here for you. Everyone else might want to be the sun that
lights up your life, but I rather be the moon that guides you through your darkest hours. Let's strive
hard and work toward our goal together!" This was what my high school teacher told me 10 years
ago and I have remembered it until now, and will remember it for the next 10 years and so on.
I was once a problematic kid who mixed with bad company and flunk tests. I never thought about
what I was going to do the next day, what more when I grew up. Of course when I was younger, I
had lots of dreams. I wanted to set up my own company, I wanted to be a teacher, I wanted to be
able to drive an airplane and the list went on. But as the years went by, they became less
insignificant to me and soon, I forgot every single one of those dreams and goals. I got to a new
school and knew friends who smoke and took drugs. My grades started dropping from "A" to fails.
But I did not care. I could not be bothered by then. I went partying every night and got home drunk.
What was the point of studying? My parents are

The Importance of Clarity in Writing Essay
The Importance of Clarity in Writing
To write a good paper is there a magical recipe to follow? If there is you will not find it in these
two books; Williams' Style: Toward Clarity and Grace and Strunk and White's The Elements of
Style. What you will find is the elements that should be present to have a successful paper. Of all the
styles mention though, one seems to stick out more then the others. This is the element of Clarity.
What is clarity, you may be asking? It is simply the process of making your paper clear to the
intended audience of your text. This may sound too easy and most of us probably think our papers are
always clear, after all we know what we are saying in them. The question is, does everyone else?
Both Williams...show more content...
It will also shorten our sentences, just by leaving out the words that were unnecessary in the first
place. It also ensures that there are characters listed for the reader to understand. A lot of sentences
seem to forget the characters, which makes the reader search to see who the sentence is even about.
By using Williams' requirements though, you are not changing the way you write to your audience.
This will shorten your sentences, but not as Williams said, "into Dick–and–Jane sentences. (25) This
only allows the writer to be more to the point which will eliminate most of the fancy words and
will automatically shorten the sentences. If you like the longer sentences though, Williams does
not say you have to follow this rule exactly as it is written. As long as from the beginning to the
end of your sentence there is a whole understanding of everything in between. This I believe is
important, because many writers feel that if you are going to be clear then you must be short and
to the point, but Williams allows you the flexibility to write as you find comfortable, as long as the
reader finds it comfortable as well.
Another point on clarity that all the authors bring up is the importance of the flow of your sentences.
Your sentences may be clear, but if they do not flow into the next one then there is no point in being
clear. You need to make sure that each sentence is treated individually and then put together

Reflection Of APA Style Writing
First of all I would like to thank you for the time and hard work you put in this semester to teach
my classmates and me. This semester I learned a lot in your class such as APA style writing, how
to write different format essays and Bloom's Taxonomy. In your course I not only lesrned how to
become a better learner but also a better person. I still remember how nervous I was feeling the
first day of class. This was my first semester attending college, which made me feel worse. Since
the first day I came into your class I was expecting this course to help me improve my writting
skills in English. I consider spelling to be my greatest weakness in writing because my first language
is Spanish and I have a lot of trouble learning English. In this letter I will let you know what I
learned and how I have met the programs standards of focus, development and clarity because I have
practice APA style, writting assays and using Bloom's Toxonomy
When I was in my senior year of high school, I learned a little about writing in APA style. In your
course I learned that I was making some mistakes when I thought I was using APA style the
correct way. Something that I considered to be very helpful for me was getting the help from the
librarian on how to use APA style using different kind of sources such as books, newspapers and
vedios. The yellow sheet he gave us in his presentation was allot of help throughout the semester
because I would always use it when It was time to do writing assignments. Learning how to
properly use Apa style was very helpful for me becuse now I apply those skills on my assignments
and I do a better job than befor. Now I feel way more comfortable and confident while writting.
Before learning the proper way of using APA style I was always unsure If I was giving credit to the
sources I was using. I'm planning on applying this writing skill in and out of class to have a clear
and smooth writing when It gets to give credit to sources.
Throughout the semester we practice literature by writing several essays such as diagnostic,
narrative, current event and common exit essay. In all these four essays the two that I found to be the
hardest ones was the narrative and the current even. I consider the narrative

writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about
and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned
while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal,
narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I
encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was
finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything
else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and
myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most
of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was
understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them.
For my exemplification essay I chose to write about the reasons why condoms

Reflection Of Creative Writing
It is my belief that through this class and the tools provided, that my growth as a writer has grown
through leaps and bounds I would never have assumed possible. It is not so much the skill I refer
to, although I would think skill has gone up in some levels as well, but more so the appreciation for
the craft of writing itself. Intially, at the start of this class my sole goal was to further my
understanding and appreciation of the writer's and books that I so love to read. Through further
evaluation within the first week, a few other goals came to mind, of which were, making writing
a habit, finishing what I start, stop second guess my writing skills and making effective use of
detail and description. Through the use of the many articles, various reading materials, whether
poems or short stories, and especially through the workshop, I feel I was able to really push
myself to accomplishing these goals. I have thus far learned how important it is not to be skilled
at writing per say, but to have the will to write, that poetry is as much about it's sound as it is about
it's subject, just how important character development is, how the narration and point of view of a
story is essential to the way the story is told, and just how much of a difference peer's critiques can
make to your writing.
Since before the beginning of this creative writing course, I have always struggled to find a point to
writing. By this, I mean that I always felt that having great skill and talent was what was required
to be a writer, let alone a great one. From this point, I felt there was no need to continue my
writing as I felt that in a sense it just wasn't good enough. However, reading the article "A Way of
Writing", I found new hope. Here was a writer who says things such as "I must be willing to fail. If
I am to keep on writing, I cannot bother to insist on high standards. I must get into action and not let
anything stop me, or even slow me much"(Stafford) and quotes that writers don't necessarily have
any special talent. The article "Why I Write" instilled further optimism through the authors view on
just being a writer, not focusing on being good or bad. I found her words in which she writes
"entirely to find out what I'm

What is Good? Essay
What is Good?
Good, a word used by all, but most not truly knowing what the true concept of good actually is.
What is good? Good, in my own understanding, entails an act or statement that is, not only morally
and perceptively correct in the eyes of others, but also in one's own eyes. There is a sense of
accomplishment; a sense of achievement felt when something good has been done. This feeling
usually does not only pertain to the individual, but also to those around him who might have
benefited in one way or another from his/her good deed or statement. It is important to note that
morals only apply to individual action and consequence. Ethics, however, apply to the actions of two
or more people. Ethics are meaningless unless...show more content...
Good can be thought of as situations in which one is found to have more pleasure in his/her life
due to the occurrence of that specific event. One can receive more pleasure in life by getting a

add pleasure to their life. An example of this in my life would be a job I just recently got in which
I am now making more money than I was at my old job. With this job, I now have more money to
do more things that will help to bring more pleasure in my life. I will never be able to do all things
that I would like to do and this is where Plato's idea of good being unattainable is demonstrated.
Something that is unachievable would seem to have different opinions based on different personal
beliefs. There are the ethical and moral stands on each issue and oneself and the people around them
determine this sense of good by acknowledging the ethical and moral standpoints and determining
what is more important to them regarding their decision. If something makes you and the people
around you happy, then what happened to cause this occurrence was good. For instance, scoring the
game–winning touchdown in a football game is good because your whole team will be happy about
that touchdown and about winning the game. Another instance of this would be talking to your best
friend after he/she just heard some bad news and cheering them up is good.

Grit Essay Examples
Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength
of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with
grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to
overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost
any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face.
However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to
obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective.
By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content...
I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year
I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times,
lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I
set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when
I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team
won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The
transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of
becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I
wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people
that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being
physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone
has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to
an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use
the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe
that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent
are just the starting point.

  • 1. Minecraft Essay Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man, Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content... The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000 a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans. One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same genre. What if nobody likes the game? What Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Good technical communication is key to preventing mistakes in the medical field. Physicians need technical communication to do a procedure and hospitals need it for policies. While completing assignments in this class I have learned how to properly explain an object to a general audience who isn't familiar with the object, as in a blood pressure cuff. I have also learned how to write a set of instructions for an audience who does not know how to do a certain task, like how to use an epi–pen for example. For my personal goals, I want to create a big picture of what I plan to do in life. Then I want to break them down in order to reach my goals, then once I have them together, then I would start working on them to achieve them. I plan on earning my Master's Degree within a year of Graduation. While I am currently in school, I will rely on my instructors, academic counselors, graduation team, the GCU Online Library, and the school's other resources that will give me additional help when I need them. If I feel lost or a subject seems too difficult, then I will ask e–mail my instructors and let he or she know that I am having difficulty and that I need help. If I am feeling overwhelmed about school, I will seek the help and advice of my academic counselor to help me come up with a solution to help me feel relaxed and not stressed with taking online classes. I know that I will be successful if I always ask and seek help here at GCU. After all of this being said, I believe that I am a D1 in the development level, which is "The Enthusiastic Beginner" (Low Competence/High Commitment). I would be enthusiastic and be highly committed to doing my job if I were to have a certain position or even as a student in school on certain levels in my program, but at the same time, I would and still do not yet know all of the ropes yet. Right now I consider myself a very curious, inexperienced person who does quite have the skills required for the job in hand or the things that I have learned in school so far, but I am yet hopeful that I will learn to develop and learn more and more skills in the near future. The American Heritage College Dictionary, Third Edition defines government as, "The exercise of authority in a political unit in order to control and administer public policy." There are three types of republics; dictatorship, oligarchy, or democracy. A dictatorship is a republic ruled by one individual. Cuba has a dictatorship. Fidel Castro is the main contributor to Cuban society. He oversees his people yet allows his people the right to vote him in or out of office. An oligarchy is another type of republic. This type is ruled by a select few. An example of an oligarchic society would be France. King Louis XV is king but he has a complete parliament to assist him in the law making procedure of France. The third type of republic is a democracy. A democracy is defined as a society ruled by the majority. An example of a democratic republic would be the United States. There are four theories that coincide with government; divine, natural, social compact, and force. The divine theory was developed out of religion. The theory states that government ordained itself from God, and its main purpose is Get more content on HelpWriting.net

What are some of the traits that make art good? What simply makes art good, and what makes art bad, in general? Does having a recognizable art or design "style" limit one's creativity? Is an exact reproduction as good as the original? It used to be that anything called "Art" had certain meaning attached to it. Some people like a particular work simply because it pleases them. The colors, the shapes, the composition, all of it appeals to their senses. Or, they might enjoy a painting or sculpture because it's worth a lot of money. They can feel the importance, the history of it, in the price tag or estimated value. And of course, an individual may like a work of art because a friend or expert has told them it's good, and they just accept it. A person may dislike art for even the same or opposite reasons: It just doesn't look nice; it's not worth very much money; or someone has already told them that it's not very good. In addition, it's very easy to compare works of art, and dislike one based on your feelings for the piece hanging on the wall right next to it. Possibly the easiest reaction to have, disinterest can be caused by confusion when looking at the work, or the viewer deciding that it doesn't fit their idea of art and discounting it. It can also come from a decision against making the effort needed to understand the artwork, or just the fact that the piece doesn't capture their attention. Unfortunately, many people who do not know how to listen believe they can listen well. They often say "I have been doing this all of my life of course I can listen". Listening is not inherited, or a personality trait, it is a skill that must be worked on and practiced. Anybody can become a good listener if they are committed to learn how and are willing to work hard. Try to listen to what the speaker is trying to say and not to what is making you angry. Summarize the main points of what the speaker was saying so that the focus is on the speaker and not you. It is always important to try and listen objectively no matter what the speaker is trying to say. By doing this, you will become a better listener and more able to communicate with others concerning subjects that might normally make you angry to the point that you would no longer be able to carry on a working conversation with that individual. This will make you especially valuable in the management industry where, as a rule, people will come to you with problems that need to be resolved. It is important to listen carefully and to withhold personal judgement. This is especially true when the subject matter or the position taken by the speaker is making you angry. In this circumstance, your interjections, if not thoroughly thought through, may just make the person defensive. Problems can also arise if you are too nice and give a lot of positive comments. People like it when they are being praised. This can alter what the speaker is saying. If you continue to give positive comments the speaker will continue to want more of them from you. If you want to find out what the speaker is really thinking you need to listen and withhold evaluation. As well as withholding evaluation one must also show patience. This is because only by doing so will the students feel their passion and hard work. When a teacher strives hard for the students, students will put in their effort as well. If a teacher dislikes her job, goes to classes in a bad mood, her teaching would also be affected and students would not be able to enjoy lessons as well. Another point that makes a good teacher would be his/her patience. Teachers should not get upset or even worse, give up on the students who are not so strong in their studies. This was what my high school teacher told me 10 years ago and I have remembered it until now, and will remember it for the next 10 years and so on. I was once a problematic kid who mixed with bad company and flunk tests. I never thought about what I was going to do the next day, what more when I grew up. But as the years went by, they became less insignificant to me and soon, I forgot every single one of those dreams and goals. I got to a new school and knew friends who smoke and took drugs. My grades started dropping from "A" to fails. But I did not care. I could not be bothered by then. I went partying every night and got home drunk. What was the point of studying? • 10. The Importance of Clarity in Writing Essay The Importance of Clarity in Writing To write a good paper is there a magical recipe to follow? If there is you will not find it in these two books; Williams' Style: Toward Clarity and Grace and Strunk and White's The Elements of Style. What you will find is the elements that should be present to have a successful paper. Of all the styles mention though, one seems to stick out more then the others. This is the element of Clarity. What is clarity, you may be asking? It is simply the process of making your paper clear to the intended audience of your text. This may sound too easy and most of us probably think our papers are always clear, after all we know what we are saying in them. The question is, does everyone else? Both Williams...show more content... It will also shorten our sentences, just by leaving out the words that were unnecessary in the first place. It also ensures that there are characters listed for the reader to understand. A lot of sentences seem to forget the characters, which makes the reader search to see who the sentence is even about. By using Williams' requirements though, you are not changing the way you write to your audience. This will shorten your sentences, but not as Williams said, "into Dick–and–Jane sentences. (25) This only allows the writer to be more to the point which will eliminate most of the fancy words and will automatically shorten the sentences. If you like the longer sentences though, Williams does not say you have to follow this rule exactly as it is written. As long as from the beginning to the end of your sentence there is a whole understanding of everything in between. This I believe is important, because many writers feel that if you are going to be clear then you must be short and to the point, but Williams allows you the flexibility to write as you find comfortable, as long as the reader finds it comfortable as well. Another point on clarity that all the authors bring up is the importance of the flow of your sentences. Your sentences may be clear, but if they do not flow into the next one then there is no point in being clear. You need to make sure that each sentence is treated individually and then put together Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Reflection Of APA Style Writing First of all I would like to thank you for the time and hard work you put in this semester to teach my classmates and me. This semester I learned a lot in your class such as APA style writing, how to write different format essays and Bloom's Taxonomy. In your course I not only lesrned how to become a better learner but also a better person. I still remember how nervous I was feeling the first day of class. This was my first semester attending college, which made me feel worse. Since the first day I came into your class I was expecting this course to help me improve my writting skills in English. I consider spelling to be my greatest weakness in writing because my first language is Spanish and I have a lot of trouble learning English. In this letter I will let you know what I learned and how I have met the programs standards of focus, development and clarity because I have practice APA style, writting assays and using Bloom's Toxonomy When I was in my senior year of high school, I learned a little about writing in APA style. In your course I learned that I was making some mistakes when I thought I was using APA style the correct way. Something that I considered to be very helpful for me was getting the help from the librarian on how to use APA style using different kind of sources such as books, newspapers and vedios. The yellow sheet he gave us in his presentation was allot of help throughout the semester because I would always use it when It was time to do writing assignments. Learning how to properly use Apa style was very helpful for me becuse now I apply those skills on my assignments and I do a better job than befor. Now I feel way more comfortable and confident while writting. Before learning the proper way of using APA style I was always unsure If I was giving credit to the sources I was using. I'm planning on applying this writing skill in and out of class to have a clear and smooth writing when It gets to give credit to sources. Throughout the semester we practice literature by writing several essays such as diagnostic, narrative, current event and common exit essay. In all these four essays the two that I found to be the hardest ones was the narrative and the current even. I consider the narrative Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the "Common Sense" textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the "Subjects and Strategies" textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. I received a B on my final draft; the first passing grade I have ever received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal, narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them. For my exemplification essay I chose to write about the reasons why condoms Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Reflection Of Creative Writing It is my belief that through this class and the tools provided, that my growth as a writer has grown through leaps and bounds I would never have assumed possible. It is not so much the skill I refer to, although I would think skill has gone up in some levels as well, but more so the appreciation for the craft of writing itself. Intially, at the start of this class my sole goal was to further my understanding and appreciation of the writer's and books that I so love to read. Through further evaluation within the first week, a few other goals came to mind, of which were, making writing a habit, finishing what I start, stop second guess my writing skills and making effective use of detail and description. Through the use of the many articles, various reading materials, whether poems or short stories, and especially through the workshop, I feel I was able to really push myself to accomplishing these goals. I have thus far learned how important it is not to be skilled at writing per say, but to have the will to write, that poetry is as much about it's sound as it is about it's subject, just how important character development is, how the narration and point of view of a story is essential to the way the story is told, and just how much of a difference peer's critiques can make to your writing. Since before the beginning of this creative writing course, I have always struggled to find a point to writing. By this, I mean that I always felt that having great skill and talent was what was required to be a writer, let alone a great one. From this point, I felt there was no need to continue my writing as I felt that in a sense it just wasn't good enough. However, reading the article "A Way of Writing", I found new hope. Here was a writer who says things such as "I must be willing to fail. If I am to keep on writing, I cannot bother to insist on high standards. I must get into action and not let anything stop me, or even slow me much"(Stafford) and quotes that writers don't necessarily have any special talent. The article "Why I Write" instilled further optimism through the authors view on just being a writer, not focusing on being good or bad. I found her words in which she writes "entirely to find out what I'm Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. What is Good? Essay What is Good? Good, a word used by all, but most not truly knowing what the true concept of good actually is. What is good? Good, in my own understanding, entails an act or statement that is, not only morally and perceptively correct in the eyes of others, but also in one's own eyes. There is a sense of accomplishment; a sense of achievement felt when something good has been done. This feeling usually does not only pertain to the individual, but also to those around him who might have benefited in one way or another from his/her good deed or statement. It is important to note that morals only apply to individual action and consequence. Ethics, however, apply to the actions of two or more people. Ethics are meaningless unless...show more content... Good can be thought of as situations in which one is found to have more pleasure in his/her life due to the occurrence of that specific event. One can receive more pleasure in life by getting a new job. A new job would give someone money and the opportunity to do more things that would add pleasure to their life. An example of this in my life would be a job I just recently got in which I am now making more money than I was at my old job. With this job, I now have more money to do more things that will help to bring more pleasure in my life. I will never be able to do all things that I would like to do and this is where Plato's idea of good being unattainable is demonstrated. Something that is unachievable would seem to have different opinions based on different personal beliefs. There are the ethical and moral stands on each issue and oneself and the people around them determine this sense of good by acknowledging the ethical and moral standpoints and determining what is more important to them regarding their decision. If something makes you and the people around you happy, then what happened to cause this occurrence was good. For instance, scoring the game–winning touchdown in a football game is good because your whole team will be happy about that touchdown and about winning the game. Another instance of this would be talking to your best friend after he/she just heard some bad news and cheering them up is good. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Grit Essay Examples Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face. However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective. By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content... I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times, lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent are just the starting point.
