The Geophysical methods based on the
data acquired inside the boreholes (Log)
will be treated briefly because they are
specific to the Petrophysics.
These methods are widely used in the
hydrocarbon exploration and production.

I metodi geofisici basati sui dati acquisiti
all'interno dei pozzi perforati (Log)
saranno trattati brevemente perché sono
specifici della Petrofisica.
Questi metodi sono ampiamente utilizzati
nell’esplorazione e produzione di idrocarburi.
I Log vengono
eseguiti calando
attrezzi speciali
all'interno del foro.
Essi sono collegati
al veicolo operativo
in superficie
attraverso cavi,
forniti di fili elettrici
all’interno, che
trasmettono i dati
acquisiti verso le
apparecchiature di
registrazione.
The Logs are
performed lowering
special tools inside
the hole. They are
connected to the
operating truck at
the surface through
cables that are
equiped with
internal electrical
wires that transmit
the acquired data
to the recording
equipments.

The operator inside the control cabin
operates the tool that slides inside the
hole. The device is hanged to the cable
rolled up a reel, that rotates to move the
tool. The tool sensors acquire the data
that are recorded.

Since the evaluation of the Logs needs
Interpretation, uncertainty and approximation
are always present.
Actually the reliability is often good because
of the integration with a large amount of
other information like samples, analyses,
tests, etc.
Various types of logs are also combined
together by acquiring sets of different
records inside the borehole. This is obtained
making some runs with tools that record
different logs.
5a UNITA’ – Geofisica di Pozzo 5th UNIT - Borehole geophysics
An important issue is the knowledge of the
hole condition during the log run, because
this affects the data recorded and,
consequently the processing and the
interpretation. Therefore specific
instruments are used in conjunction with the
log tools to verify the changes of direction,
and the anomalies of the shape of the hole.
These information will improve the quality of
the Formations recognition.
Dal momento che la valutazione dei Log ha
bisogno di interpretazione, l'incertezza e
l’approssimazione sono sempre presenti.
In realtà l'affidabilità è spesso buona, a
causa della integrazione con una grande
quantità di altre informazioni come campioni,
analisi, prove, ecc.
Si combinano inoltre vari tipi di log
acquisendo gruppi di registrazioni diverse
all'interno del foro. Questo si ottiene facendo
alcune discese con strumenti che registrano
log differenti.
Un problema importante è la conoscenza
della condizione del foro durante
l’esecuzione del log, perché ciò influenza i
dati registrati e, quindi, l'elaborazione e
l'interpretazione. Pertanto strumenti
specifici sono utilizzati in combinazione con
gli attrezzi dei log per verificare i cambi di
direzione, e le anomalie della forma del
foro. Tali informazioni miglioreranno la
qualità del riconoscimento delle Formazioni.

Conclusione Conclusion
The Meaning of Interpretation
The interpretation of geophysical data,
properly speaking, involves its expression in
geologic terms. When competently carried
out, it requires the fitting together of all
pertinent geological and geophysical
information into an integrated picture that is
more complete and more reliable than either
source is likely to give alone. Ideally, this
integration would be accomplished most
efficiently if it were done by a single person
highly competent both in geophysics and in
geology. In actual practice, individuals with
adequate training and experience in both
fields are very few and it is usually necessary
for a geophysicist and a geologist to
collaborate at this stage of the workflow.

Il Significato di Interpretazione
L'interpretazione dei dati geofisici,
propriamente parlando, coinvolge la sua
espressione in termini geologici.
In
pratica, le persone con adeguata formazione
ed esperienza in entrambi i campi sono rare e
di solito è necessario che geofisico e geologo
collaborino in questa fase del flusso di lavoro.
