Subject: Recommendation - Mr. Richard Maltz
1. I unreservedly recommend Mr. Maltz for any position involving grand strategy, national or
military strategy, strategic vision, doctrinal development, concept development, professional
military education, or historical contextualization. I am certain that he will excel in any of these
areas.
2. I have worked with Mr. Maltz for several years in my position as a Senior Joint Doctrine
Developer with the Doctrine and Education Group, Joint Warfighting Center, United States Joint
Forces Command. During that time I have obserbved an open and inquisitive minded
professional who is a crucial and extremely supportive member of a highly effective team.
3. Mr. Maltz has distinguished himself as a joint doctrinal expert. His work ethic is outstanding.
He has been a “go to” subject matter expert on much of our work regarding Joint Publication
(JP) 1, Doctrine for the Armed Forces of the United States – the military’s capstone doctrinal
document, and JP 5-0, Joint Operation Planning – the keystone publication on military
planning. I have also worked closely with him on both the Doctrine and Education Group’s
Professional Development and Professional Speaker Programs. Mr. Maltz has distinguished
himself by bringing some of the brightest minds currently thinking about warfare to come and
speak to the Joint Warfighting Center.
4. I have observed the useful and exceptional employment of Mr. Maltz’s superior doctrinal and
theoretical knowledge on multiple additional occasions during this time period. He can always
be counted upon. Mr. Maltz has thrived and come up with innovative solutions when presented
with seemingly intractable problems to tackle. He has demonstrated consistently distinguished
performance.
5. Mr. Maltz would be a tremendous asset to any organization and I recommend him without
