Submerge Oriental Mindoro and Parts of Visayas
Intermittent rains
triggered flooding in
Oriental Mindoro and
several areas in Visayas,
forcing at least 395
individuals to flee their
homes on Tuesday, the
National Disaster Risk
Reduction and
Management Council
(NDRRMC) said
Wednesday. Southern
Luzon and portions of
the Visayas experienced
rains over the past two
days due to the presence
of an active low pressure

27. Low-lying Calapan City, two other towns in
Or. Mindoro to sink in flood 10-yr. time
CALAPAN CITY – In about ten
years time, this capital city of
Oriental Mindoro and two of its
neighboring low-lying towns will
submerge in three to seven-
meter deep water should a
rainfall in a magnitude of what
Typhoon “Ondoy” brought to
Metro Manila occurs, unless
“engineering interventions” be
done by the government.
This alarming scenario was
brought to open by Oriental
Mindoro First District
Congressman Rodolfo G.
Valencia in a press conference
here last March 26 as he detailed
the recent findings of Norwegian
Agency for Development
Cooperation (NORAD) regarding
the present topographic situation
of the province.
