1. Compare And Contrast Two Friends
We all have friends that are alike or different from each other. My friend Nicole and Amy are also
friends. Both of them are alike in some ways, but at the same time unlike from each other. For
example, they both dress to their comfort, but the clothes they choose to wear are different. They
both have similar taste in music and television shows. However, Nicole and Amy are more
different than alike. Nicole and Amy have different appearance and style. Nicole is five feet and
two inches with medium brown wavy hair that is shoulder length. She has big eyes and also
freckles on her face. Nicole tends to dress very casually. For an instant, she would wear jean with a
graphic tee or a blouse and navy blue classic vans. She occasionally keeps up with the latest fashion
trend. On the other hand, Amy is just 5 feet tall with...show more content...

Amy was never in any a team sport. However, she plays tennis with her cousins for fun. Amy is
really sociable and blunt at the same time. I remember a time during lunch there was a table across
from us were talking super loud and she shout "shut up". Amy is not afraid to speak her mind while
Nicole is more shy and quiet. Nicole cannot stand watching gory, horror and supernatural movie. For
example, during summer, our friend, Julie, invited Nicole, Amy, and Iwatch Green Inferno. Nicole
did not want to come along due to the fact that when she watched the trailer of that movie she
found it super gory and disgusting. However, Amy did not find that trailer gory and disgusting and
came long to watch the movie with us. Amy enjoys watching horror or supernatural movie or
shows. For example, during the month of October, there was a movie call Crimson Peak and Amy
wanted to watch it while Nicole did not want

2. Work experience versus a college education. Which of these two is best in helping you to land a
better paying job? Many college graduates may argue that having an Associate Degree or Bachelor
Degree is an essential key to landing a top paying job. People with work experience and skills argue
theyhave an edge over someone with a degree that has no real–worldwork experience. They believe
this gives them an opportunity for a better paying job.Plus, people with work experience do not have
to deal with the added student debt that comes with acquiring such degrees.
When looking through the help wanted ads in newspapers or in employment agencies, you will see

3. Thesis Statement For Pride And Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice: Essay Outline Thesis statement, including map of development: In Jane
Austen's novel "Pride and Prejudice," the author traces portrait of women's role during the Regency
period: they were expected to get married, to be accomplished and to self–scarify. Topic Sentence
#1: Marriage was crucial at the time, and women of the early Victorian age were expected to
marry and to get their daughters married. a.Argument: Marriage assured social security for both the
women and the family. b.Example: When Lady Catherine tells Elizabeth that Darcy was supposed
to marry her daughter: "The engagement between them is of a particular kind. From their infancy,
they have been intended for each other. It was the favorite wish of his mother, as well as of her's.
While I their cradles, we planned the union: and now, at the moment when the wishes of both sisters
would be accomplished, in their marriage, to be prevented by a young woman of inferior birth, of
no importance in the world, and wholly unallied to the family!" (Austen 335–336). c.Explanation:
Lady Catherine's reaction demonstrates the crucial importance of marriage in the society, but also
for women. Families needed their daughters to marry in the same social class or above to insure
social prestige. Demonstrates Lady Catherine's role to protect the high class and prestige of her
descendants through marriage. For Elizabeth and her family, this union with the higher class assures
them social security. a.Argument: Marriage was a market, women needed to marry to ensure
financial security. b.Example: When Mrs. Bennet learns that Mr. Bingley is coming to town: "A
single man of large fortune; four of five thousands a year. What a fine thing for our girls!" (Austen
6). c.Explanation: Marriage was the only way for the Bennet girls to ensure financial security. Girls
are too high class to get jobs but would not inherit. Financial security also ensured future economic
security for Mrs. Bennet after her husband's death. Topic Sentence #2: Women of the early 1800s
need to demonstrate accomplishments and education. a.Argument: Accomplishments demonstrated a
woman's value. b.Example: Lady Catherine to Elizabeth: " 'Do

they entered the house. She was determined to protect us (Moore36)." Later she realized she was
losing her grip and needed the assistance only her parents could provide, and they did. i. The
similarities with the Other Wes's mother was that she too was never home, but the contrast lye with
the mistake she made with leaving Tony as the only guardian. "Wes, now eight years old, was free
from any adult supervision till then. His brother, six years older, was the closest thing Wes had to a
caretaker during the daylight hours and was fiercely protective of the little brother who idolized him.
But lately even Tony hadn't been around much (Moore 26)."
In conclusion, both Wes Moore's had critical moments and different standpoints throughout the
entirety of their lives. Though they both had individual accountabilities it was the choices that they
individually made that ultimately determined there fates. "Wes and I stared at each other for a

9. Life Of Pi Comparative Essay
Embellished storytelling has remained an art form among human civilizations since the dawn of
humanity. Stories were passed down through generations with each version obtaining new elements
thrown in by the next storyteller. The modifications made to each story added specific fictional
elements to better convey the meaning and emotions of the story. Many of these stories attempt to
explain unexplainable phenomenon through stories of Gods like in Greek mythology. Yann
Martel, in his famed work Life of Pi, depicts a story with a structure manipulated to create a
fictional representation of the truth. The main character, Pi, who tells this story asks the narrator,
"Which story do you prefer? Which is the better story?" (Martel 178). Martel explains the fictional
twist of the story as a way to bring out the true essence of it. This fictional variation can be observed
as a representation of Pi's faith and it greater captivates the listener than in what is likely the truthful
version. In Martel's fictional representation of the truth, the reader...show more content...

being their preference, Pi responds, "Thank you. And so it goes with God" (179). This, at first, is
difficult to interpret. Pi lives his life as a believer of multiple religions. To Pi, the varying stories of
religion all differ, but at their cores, they are the same. To Pi, God can be explained through both
the Bible, and The Qur'an. Just as his story can be told with animals or with people. No one can
prove one to be truer than the other, but, in the case of religion, both "stories" begin and end the

10. Compare And Contrast Depression And Anxiety
Depression and anxiety are the two most common mental illnesses in the world today. They make a
person view the world as an ugly, scary place. Many people develop one or the other, and some
develop both. Depression and anxiety are two very different mental illnesses but many people only
see the similarities between them, instead of seeing the difference in their symptoms and emotions.
One of the many differences between depression and anxiety, is their symptoms. According to
Harold Cohen (2016) from psychcentral.com, people with depression have low energy and
"..depressed people often feel overwhelmed by the day–to–day tasks and personal relationships so
essential to life" (para.2). When someone has depression they lose interest in things they used to
love, and they tend to push friends and family away. They also often experience headaches,
insomnia, and a change in appetite. Meanwhile, people with anxiety experience panic attacks in
situations where other people would not. They also feel restless, they shake and sweat, and they
always have a constant worry. The symptoms of anxiety are very different from depression. A
person with anxiety would not have low energy, quite the opposite actually. Someone suffering from
anxiety has a high energy, but is always in a constant state of worry orfear.
Along with the different symptoms of anxiety, they also make the person dealing with the illness
feel differently, emotionally. People who have anxiety often feel like they want to

11. Theme Of Isolation In Life Of Pi
Yann Martel's novel (2001) and Ang Lee's film adaption (2012) of Life of Pi harbour themes such
as isolation and the extent one would go to in order to survive. The story is split into two parts,
the first part focuses on Piscine "Pi" Patel's background and his religious journey. Part two
focuses on Pi's predicaments while he is stranded out at sea for 227 days. The second section of
the story is renown for Pi's situation with a tiger named Richard Parker. Not only does the
protagonist have to focus on his own survival, Pi needed to be attentive of the Bengal tiger; all
whilst dealing with his loneliness. Martel and Led convey the ideas of isolation and survivability
through the use of several literary and stylistic features throughout the texts. Isolation plays a
significant role in Pi's story, and both Martel and Lee have their differences in conveying this
theme. Martel does not write Pi's journey in chronological order. Despite this, the author manages
to effectively express the protagonist's emotions to the audience. Throughout the first chapter,
the reader learns about Pondicherry Zoo, which was ran by his father and was considered his
home. Martel makes Pi describe his life at the zoo, stating that "it was a paradise on earth. I have
nothing but the fondest memories growing up in a zoo. I had the life of a prince," (page 14).
Martel writes is past tense here, thus indicating to the reader that Pi no longer has a life at the
zoo. This is soon confirmed a couple of pages later, with Pi stating that "the Pondicherry Zoo
doesn't exist anymore. It's pits are filled in, the cages torn down. I explore it now in the only place
left for it, my memory," (page 19). As stated beforehand, the isolation truly hits Pi throughout the
majority of the second part of his journey. On their way to Canada, the ship Pi and his family
resided on got/became caught in a large storm. The ship flooded eventually, resulting in the ship and
occupants submerged in the ocean. Pi watches this unfold from a small emergency/evacuation
/escape boat. To expand on this, Pi is shown swimming against the waves in an attempt to avoid
Richard Parker–thus noticing the ship descending underwater. During this scene, Lee films a
medium shot of

13. Roughly 65 years ago, two authors set out on a journey to predict the possible developments of
their western society by writing prophetic books of the future. The similarities are clear as both
books portray overpowered dystopian governments which control their inhabitants. However, one
book stands out in its precise rendering of the current world. Fahrenheit 451, a book penned by
Ray Bradbury, is a dystopian novel which uncovers striking parallels between the two societies.
Although some of the book's similarities are purposely aligned to the real world so it is relatable,
other parts only became accurate over time (published in 1953). Slightly earlier, in 1949, George

The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps the most important concept in international trade
theory. As the economies that exist in our world our becoming increasingly more intertwined, it is
becoming even more important. Nearly every country in the world depends on other countries to
supply them with goods that they cannot produce in their own country. I believe that comparative in
necessary in today's economy. In this paper I am going to discuss comparative advantage and it's
effect on globalization.
The idea of comparative advantage dates back to the early 19th century. The model that is used to
describe the theory is known as the "Ricardian Model". David Ricardo believed...show more

"If a foreign country can supply us with a commodity cheaper than we ourselves can make it,
better buy it of them with some part of the produce of our own industry, employed in a way in
which we have some advantage"(BookIV, Sectionii, 12). In other words if country can import a
good at a lower then it would cost to produce, the country should import the good. Comparative
advantage and advantageous advantage do not contradict each other. Both theories are based on the
same principle. Free trade is a very important principle in both theories. In the example using
Portugal and England both countries would benefit from free trade.
The primary issue in the model by Ricardo is what happens when each country moves from autarky
(no trade) to free trade with the other country. What are the consequences from trade going to be?
The most important things that we care about are trade's effects on the prices the goods in each
country, the production level of the goods, employment levels in each industry, the pattern of trade,
consumption levels, wages and incomes, and the welfare effects.
Using Ricardo's model it shows that in autarky, each country will produce some of each good.
Because of technology differences, relative prices of the two goods will differ between countries.
Workers in the technologically advanced country will enjoy a higher standard of living than in the
technologically inferior country. The reason

'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' and 'The Red Convertible' 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek

tales of men during times of war. The stories differ in that 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' is a
story written in reverse, where the readers do not truly know the plot until the end– whereas 'The

The entire story was just a snapshot that occurred in his mind before his death. Ambrose Bierce
purposefully continues to build the anticipation that the devout Union soldier had escaped, only to
drop the reader into a tale of demise and overall doom. 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Endrich
was written in 1984 and revolves around a Vietnam veteran and his brother. Lyman Lamartine is a
young man whose brother has just returned from the Vietnam War and has been traumatized by what
he had seen overseas.
Before the war, Lyman and his brother Henry were extremely close. Before Henry departed for the
war, and as Lyman recounts in the story, the two bonded over a red convertible. This car proves to
be symbolic, both throughout, and at the end of the story, due to the change in Henry's behavior,
illustrated by this quote from when Henry returns: "We had always been together before. But he was
such a loner now that I didn't know how to take it."
When Henry returns, he has no desire to ride in the red convertible, no desire to wear the bright
colored clothes he used to dawn–– instead Henry just liked to sit around and sob about the war. The

when Chuck lost Faith. Since Pi was extremely religious, he never did. Also, both characters had
faith they would see their loved ones again. Pi refused to accept that his family had drowned and

As a high school student, it seems as though everything of significance lies in the future. My
generation is old enough to be aware of the flaws, sufferings and inequalities of our world, but we
are also still young enough to naively believe that overnight we can rid the world of its problems.
While I look towards the future, I wish one thing for myself, my family and my generation:
happiness. I have long imagined living in a utopian world. But as I look to the future, I have begun
to question whether it is even possible to implement change on such a massive scale without
sacrificing the ideals of the individuals. Last year when studying Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, I

realize that to a society which depends on the donated organs of clones to cure diseases, she is not a
human, but a collection of organs. Bradbury and Ishiguro use interactions with other characters to
drive their Protagonist to the realization that they are living in a dystopian world. The protagonists in

20. Comparison And Contrast Of Art
Comparison and Contrast of Art
Art is able to transport its viewer through time and connect us as a community. Audiences are able to
infer the content and context of the artwork. Art displayed through different mediums and about
different topics can share many similarities and draw connections between one another. Exodus,
created by Shelby Lechman (2015), uses oil paint on canvas to depict a young boy and father in a
train car, leaving their home in Hungary during the time of the Hungarian Revolution (fig.1). Back
into the Earth: Creation and the Interpretation of Meaning, created by Tamara Himmelspach (2015)

However, further connection in context and content can be developed when analyzing the
connection of the works roots and art in history. Exodus exhibits the reality of human suffering as a
result of war and oppression during the Hungarian Revolution. The historical relevance of this work
dives into a deeper significance than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for power
signified in Exodus also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced their
traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their country,
Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human experience is key
in understanding and studying art. Besides the main styles and usage in appearance, the connection
to a point in time and the influence of that time allows the audience to connect with the artist and the
characteristics of the artwork. Audiences are able to connect past themes to present day issues, such
as the difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous Native American women who
have gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident in both works despite their
different purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and barriers of past, present are future are
removed when audiences are able to interpret the work from any point in time and understand the
significance of its visual and non–visual means.
