Sean 4 min.Motivation: Enterprises faced with desktop deployment projects, physical or virtual or a combination (hybrid) face many of the same general phases across projects. We will show how RES can ease the scope and burden of these projects at each and every project phase. If you look at most desktop deployment projects today, be they physical or virtual, the components of DDS from RES play a significant role at each critical phase.Discovery: BDA can actively collect critical details about the existing desktops that can be generated into reports for much more comprehensive scoping of the deployment project. Above and beyond static inventory of what’s installed but what users are using and how they would be impacted.Design: In the Design phase, everything learned in the Discovery phase is digested and developed into a comprehensive plan for the desktop transformation. Capitalizing on what was gleaned from the BDA the Workspace designer can be used to be lifted as part of the user persona, and the modeling capabilities of Workspace Designer can determine the actual desktop end state based on a given configuration.Build: In the Build phase, desktop transformation begins to take place, with required components being installed and configured. For example the Workspace designer can be used to complete and prototype the end user workspaces for deployment. The Data Synch capabilities of WSM can be used to maintain daily continuity in the end user experience. Deploy: a well-executed deployment can make or break the project. The following RES components/capabilities are key to the Deployment phase: Usage Tracking; Automation; Data Synch; White list / Blacklist; Context Aware Privileges; RBA.Manage: The longest running phase is on going management and maintenance and a well managed Desktop project ensures in its overall success and longevity. RES components that are critical – Usage Tracking; Application Self Service(?); Data Synch; Automated User Provisioning; Context Awareness.
The AppDNA overview report shows applications and target technologies – and their compatibility – at a glance. Determine if an application will have no issues (green), some issues (amber/yellow) or serious issues (red) at a glance. Have a general idea of application compatibility before scoping, sizing or starting the project. Test applications for compatibility on Windows 7 and Windows 8, virtualization with XenApp and App-V, plus web applications on IE all at one time. See a clear snapshot of early success, where work is involved and where virtualization may be a deployment option.
Bob 2 min.RES Baseline Desktop Analyzer provide essential insights to desktop architects and administrators into the current state of the desktop environment.- Better understanding about what applications are there and what is really used.- Recently we have added rich Excel reports for committed customers and insight in Dropbox usage.
The way people work today has been transformed. We moved away from uniform PC usage (which was the de facto standard just 10 years ago) to a complex mix of different application delivery technologies. Today we want access to enterprise IT services 24/7 from any location, and a traditional PC simply does not support this. To achieve this highly flexible way of working, IT must use the hybrid application delivery models discussed earlier. The result is, without dismissing legacy application delivery methods, we must introduce many new and more flexible technologies to deliver IT services in many situations; and this has led to much more complex environments for IT to manage. In short, our customers tell us (and we’ve seen with our own eyes) that new technologies often don’t replace other technologies. Instead, as new devices are rolled out, each one brings along its own management tools, one morelayer of complexity to the infrastructure. And IT is forced to come up with solutions for managing this increasingly complex environment.

This is a our joint case study mentioned earlier. CTXS promotes this heavily on twitter, etc.“We are very excited to see valuable partners like Ntersect use the complimentary solutions from Citrix and RES Software to bring customers to modern desktops in a fraction of the time,” said Penny Gralewski, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Citrix. “We encourage all of our partners and customers to look at these solutions as part of their tool set for transitioning to vnext desktops.”
