key EU member states. High unemployment levels and a marginal decline in annual disposable
income also delayed liability insurance policy sales and discouraged overall growth in the non-life
segment. However, the Portuguese government took a number of actions, including an economic
stimulus package which aimed to spur the country’s economy on and improve macroeconomic
fundamentals.
