SUPERVISING EMPLOYEES
Value and Importance of
Supervision
 Supervision was described as “The function of
assuring that action is taking place correctly in
accordance with plans and instruction”
 To make sure that it is performed correctly and
efficiently.
 SUPERVISOR - merely seeks to
learn where further advice and
instruction are needed by the
subordinate.
 Briefly stated, the major
functions of supervision revolve
around through interrelated
tasks – directing, guiding and
leading.
Duties and Responsibilities of
a Supervisor
a) To schedule and allocate work
for employees.
b) To coordinate and supervise the
performance of employees.
c) To see that the work is done
promptly, efficiently, and at the
minimum cost.
Good Supervisor
Must be able to motivate his
subordinate to work well under
a spirit of close cooperation
and collaboration.
He should find time to listen
to complaints and grievances
aired by employees.
He should make his employees
rightly feel that they are worthy
members of the organization.
He should be sensitive to the
needs of his employees can
enhance his quality with
intelligent leadership and use
it as a tool to win their help and
cooperation.
He must first win his loyalty so
that he thinks cooperation is
worth giving.
Supervisor’s guide to the
supervision of Office Employees.
a) Always be courteous to
you employees as well as
to the various publics your
company deals with.
b) Recognize the fact that
questions from your
employees are generally
the result of their
understandable lack of
knowledge.
c) All such questions should
be entertained with an
attentive and listening
ear.
d) Never forget the feedback
coming from your employees
for whatever instructions
given to them.
e) Answer only questions
pertaining to your
individual responsibility.
f) Always adopt an open
communication policy.
g) Always respect the dignity
of the employee.
h) In the event some
misunderstanding arise
between employees, it is
important to listen to both
sides of the story.
i) If a penalty is to be imposed, such penalty
should be tailored fit to the offense.
j) Make your decision as prompt as called for by
the circumstances.
Effective Management of
Women Employees.
1. Never generalize about women.
2. Use care in placement.
3. Be courteous and considerate.
4. Treat women as individuals.
5. Be impartial.
6. Stress consistency.
7. Try to pay attention to
improving working
conditions.
8. Develop social
relationship.
9. Follow-up on new
employee.
10. Spot the cause of
a grievance to
effect a solution.
