Recently there have been multiple debates against loving who you want, especially with certain
religions. The LGBTQ community isn't accepted into many people's religions because "it goes
against what the bible says" or because "it's gross". This situation has torn families apart simply
because one member cannot take that another person loves someone of the same–sex. I believe that
same–sex relations should be widely accepted in all religions and people should be able to love
who they want without fearing over how it will affect them for the rest of their life. I believe this
because not only does shaming gay couples embarrass the person in the relationship, it may also
embarrass their children or make their children feel ashamed of them; not accepting gay relations
in religions can cause violence towards the LGBTQ community; and finally because in the bible, it
also states that God loves all his children no matter what. So in all, I believe that gay relations
should be accepted by everyone.
To begin with, shaming a family or a couple for their relationship with someone of the same–sex can
cause the family or the people being shamed to maybe feel ashamed of their significant other or

in reality it is pretty simple: it is the division of power between the national and state governments.

should all just get on board. What they fail to recognize is that gay marriage is not simply a matter
of personal belief or a "yes" or "no" issue.
Recently, the debate over same–sex marriage has been one of the most divisive political issues in our
nation. We belong to a remarkable generation, one where definitions are changing, prejudices are
being broken, and homosexual relationships are slowly gaining acceptance in contemporary society.
Advocates of same–sex marriage believe that marriage is a private affair between two consenting
adults where individuals should be granted equal rights, regardless of sexuality. The belief that
marriage is just private love sealed by the state sounds like a sweet idea. Yet, as our leaders lean
towards an agenda of political correctness to keep the minorities happy, we are losing touch with
fundamental Christian values.
Whenever the Bible mentions marriage, it is clearly described as a union of a male and a female.
The first mention of marriage, Genesis 2:24, describes it as a man leaving his parents and fulfilling
God's demand for procreation through a loving sexual relationship with his wife. In the New
Testament, this viewpoint is further reinforced. Homosexual desires and actions are deemed to be
unnatural and unrighteous. While the Bible does not explicitly mention "gay" marriage, however, it
is clear that homosexuality is against God's will.

LGBT are redefining the definition of family. June 2016, the same sex marriage was pronounced
by the Supreme Court, across the United Sates. Most Americans supported the marriage equality.
Family is redefined as giving love whether you are straight, LGBGT couple or single parent.
According to US census data, 270, 313 American children lives in households with same sex couple

LGBT always face health concerns which is often link to social discrimination and denial of their
rights, which can lead to higher rates of psychiatric disorder, sexual diseases, substance abuse and

discrimination they have experienced most of the place this community gather is at the club which

concern, due to the use of toys and various sexual behaviors, can increase their risk of getting
infected. Education regarding proper use of barriers and sexually transmitted disease is needed. It

the feeling of isolation

on exclusive and abusive practices (Corvino and Gallagher, 2012, p. 21–22). The US compensated
for these shortcomings, however, through the passing of legislation that repealed and revised laws
that marginalized and segregated individuals.

Discrimination and banning homosexual couples to get married violates human rights and freedoms.
Laws which against gay marriage deny the First Amendment which states that everyone has freedom
of speech, expression and religion. Sexual determination is an option, so it is how some people can
express themselves.

Allowing same–sex marriage to legally occur is currently a major debate within Australia that has a
huge presence in our contemporary society. Same–sex marriage is defined as the union of two
individuals of the same gender identity and these couples have experienced discrimination on the
personal and legal level (Rich & Wagner: 2016). Not only does this debate effect the lives of
same–sex couples wishing to get married, but all individuals and groups within the LGBTQIA+
community. A significant issue with this debate are ideas of heteronormativity which seems to be
one of the major underlying arguments against marriage equality. This paper will be defining
heteronormativity, the basis of this argument, discussing how anthropological understandings can be
applied and ethnographic examples such as campaigns against marriage equality. Ethnocentrism
plays a substantial role within allowing same–sex marriage under Australian law, as traditionalist
views of marriage have overtaken ideas of a change, however, in modern society the idea of
marriage equality is more widespread and accepted. Even with the current plebiscite being conducted
there have been many campaigns against marriage equality that prove how problematic arguments
against marriage equality are.
Heteronormativity can be defined that it assumes heterosexuality is the only accepted norm within
society and that relationships and/or marriages are only valid if the two, and only two, individuals
are of different sex.

marriages have been a controversy in the United States for decades and in the past few years the
three branches of the United States Government, The Legislative, The Executive, and the judicial
branch have played their part in making same–sex marriage common and accepted in America.
Many people have fought for the right to marry whom they love and now, because of that hard work
the people of the United States can be open and happy with their lives without fear of being judged or
tormented by their communities. The judicial branch of the United States government played its part
in same–sex marriage being legal by having seen cases go to the Supreme Court in order to justify
their marriage, and they have found how keeping loved ones from being apart in the case of
marriage, is unconstitutional due to the 14th amendment. The Supreme Court case DeBoer v.
Snyder was a case that went to the Supreme Court on March 27, 2013. The judge waited on the
ruling for other cases but on the 21st of June in 2014, Judge Friedman ruled that the same–sex
marriage ban for the state of Michigan was unconstitutional and it had violated DeBoer's right to
equal protection under the law. The laws in Michigan beforehand refused to let the state
acknowledge marriage as anything other than a man and a woman in a union. There is another case
that the Supreme Court ruled on and that was the Obergefell v. Hodges case

In a national wide election that will end on November 2nd, Australians are invited to vote on the
question of gay marriage, an issue that has dominated the political discourse in the country for years.
On one side same–sex marriage activists argue that it is time for Australia to join the list of
developed countries that have legalized gay marriage, whilst the Coalition for Marriage stands in
strong opposition. The Coalition has pointed to Canada's policy on the matter claiming that
legalized gay marriage has threatened religious freedom in the country. Notable in this line of
thinking is Steve Tourloukis, a Canadian father of two who has appeared in campaign
advertisements prepared by the Coalition for Marriage, prompting Australian to vote against same
sex marriage, warning against a potential of parents losing rights over their children's education.
Tourloukis claims that the 2005 decision on gay marriage has opened the way for gender diversity
and homosexuality to be taught in the sexual education curriculum, concepts that are against his
religious values. Incidents like these have a tendency to bring about debate on whether current
developed nations such as Canada and Australia truly live under a policy of secularism that makes
