Examples Of Persuasive Letters
To Mr. Felderman, I am Madison Zaring a sophomore as West Delaware high school, and am also
the president of student council. I'm emailing you about this year's Red Cross Blood Drive. We
will need the Seedorf gym for at least 5 hours during the school day and was wondering what day
would work best with you. The Red Cross says for them that the best month to do this in would be
April, so if you can, have it be sometime in April. Thank you for reading my email, and if possible
I need to know by January 30th what date would work best. Thank you, Madison Zaring

Mariama Bâ’s So Long a Letter Essay
Mariama BГў's So Long a Letter
When a person hears words like feminist or feminism, notions of what it means to be feminine, or
consequently unfeminine, begin to dimly form in our mind's eye. Although we cannot definitively
answer the question of what is feminine, we are able to recognize it when we see it or its absence.
This conception, however, is arbitrary at best. What is it about an evening gown that seems to define
and dress the feminine aura while a woman spitting would be denounced as inherently unfeminine?
There is no question that Mariama BГў's novel, So Long a Letter, is undoubtedly a work of feminist
literature. Although we are able to easily make this identification, it is much more difficult for us to

The social and not biological origin of these gender roles within a society imply that these rules can
be changed, altered, or disregarded completely, allowing for social change and mobility.
Ramatoulaye echoes Grosz's message in her conversation with Daouda in which she seeks to
de–objectify women, and stresses the importance of women within a society:
Women should no longer be decorative accessories, objects to be moved about, companions to be
flattered or calmed with promises. Women are the nation's primary, fundamental root, from which all
else grows and blossoms. (BГў 61–62)
Although Ramatoulaye identifies and celebrates the importance of women as their own separate
group, it would that she does without having to subordinate women to men. Using the ability to
create life, she acknowledges the inherent difference between men and women without creating a
hierarchy between them. This deconstruction of the male–female hierarchy is crucial in moving
away from the patriarch dominated world into one of equality:
For patriarchs, difference is understood in terms of inequality, distinction, or opposition, a sexual
difference modeled on negative, binary, or oppositional structures within which only one of the two
terms has any autonomy; the other is defined only

The Scarlet Letter Essay
The Scarlet Letter Introduction The Scarlet Letter is a classic tale of sin, punishment, and revenge. It
was written in 1850 by the famous American author Nathaniel Hawthorne. It documents the lives of
three tragic characters, each of whom suffer greatly because of his or her sins. Shot Plot The story
begins with Hester Prynne, a resident of a small Puritan community, being led from the town
jailhouse to a public scaffold where she must stand for three hours as punishment for adultery. She
must also wear a scarlet A on her dress for the rest of her life as part of her punishment. As she is

Chillingworth makes her promise never to reveal that he is her husband. After Hester is released
from prison, she goes to live in a small cottage at the edge of town. After a few years, people
begin to notice that her daughter, Pearl, behaves very strangely, and they threaten to take her away
from Hester. Hester takes Pearl to Governor Bellingham's mansion planning to plead for the right to
keep her daughter. At the mansion she is met by the governor and his three guests, Reverend
Wilson, Reverend Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth. Reverend Dimmesdale convinces the
governor to allow Hester to keep Pearl. Chillingworth, who has been living with Reverend
Dimmesdale since his arrival in town, begins to suspect that Reverend Dimmesdale is the father of
Pearl. One evening while Dimmesdale is sleeping, Chillingworth examines Dimmesdale's chest and
finds something which confirms his suspicion. From this moment on, Chillingworth devotes
himself to seeking revenge. One night, Dimmesdale is so tormented by his conscience that he goes
and stands on the scaffold that Hester had stood on seven years earlier. As he is standing there, he
sees Hester and Pearl walk by and he calls them onto the scaffold with him. After he acknowledges
his guilt to them, a giant red A

Reflective Letter Sample
I'm writing this letter to tell you about my learning outcomes and experiences in your class. Let
me start off by saying that 2017 has been the worst year of my life. Nothing went the way I
wanted it to. I experienced so many different things and had been in so many wild situations. I
had started losing sight of who I was as a young man which scared me. Until, your English 101
class. This class is one of the highlights of this whole year. I have learned so many things about
myself in this class and it changed my overall perspective of life. I am a better me in all aspects
especially mentally. Plus, I have developed my writing skills and became a better writer overall.
I have changed so much as a writer throughout this quarter in your class. For example, coming into
your class my conclusion was horrible and I knew it was because teachers told me this in the
past, but never really told me how to fix it. Until you finally told me when writing your
conclusion ask yourself "So What". This helped me so much and it shows on assignments like
the Autoethnography. Like you always say, "If you know better, you do better". The biggest
reason my writing skills have improved is because of the amount of writing we do in your class. I
have written more papers in this class in one quarter than I have written in 4 quarters in my Honors
English class last year. Crazy right? The fact of the matter is that practice makes perfect. The more I
practice something the more flaws I will catch and

"The Scarlet Letter"
One main theme present in the work "The Scarlet Lette" is that of sin and guilt. Nathaniel
Hawthorne attempts to show how guilt can be a form of everlasting punishment. The book
represents sin and guilt through symbolism and character development. In his novel, "The Scarlet
Letter", Nathaniel Hawthorne explains how the punishment of guilt causes the most suffering among
those affected.
As with any piece, symbolism plays an important role in representing the main ideas of a novel. The
plot in "The Scarlet Letter" revolves around three significant events that describe the development of
the story. As both starting point and ending point of the novel, the scaffold scenes hold symbolic
meaning.
The first scaffold scene introduces the reader...show more content...
As the book opens, Hester is brought forth from the jail and walked to the scaffold. For the first
time being seen in public named an adulterer, Hester shies from the public as they mock her.
However, "She never battled with the public, but submitted uncomplainingly to its worst usage; she
made no claim upon it, in requital for what she suffered; she did not weight upon its sympathies."
(Hawthorne 140). Soon, it did not matter what other people thought of Hester because of her sin.
She chose not to live with the humiliation, but she did have to live with herself.
Having to deal with her daughter Pearl day in and day out is a punishment in itself as well. Most
people, including Hester, view Peal as a demon child. However, Hester hesitates to punish Pearl for
being so. She feels guilty as it is, placing a burden on Pearl's life, for Peal is branded as the child of
an adulterer, all of this resulting from Hester's 'passionate sin'. (Guilt as Reparation for Sin,
paragraph 14).
The minister Dimmesdale is greatly affected by the weight of guilt he carries with him everyday
of his proceeding life. Since his sin is unknown to society, there is not a public crowd to look down
upon him, but one Roger Chillingworth who lives just to torture Dimmesdale. He wishes and prays
most often that the public know of his wrong, rather than hold it secret, as it would be less painful.

Lesson 14
Business Correspondence
In our day to–day life we exchange our ideas, thoughts and other information with our friends,
relatives and other people. Sometimes we directly talk to them and sometimes we also write letters
to them. In letters we express our feelings in a few words, we may ask for any information or we
may write about a complaint in connection with our problems. Similarly businessmen also exchange
ideas, information by writing letters. They communicate business information to customers,
suppliers and others and at the same time receive a variety of letters from them. In this lesson let us
know about different types of letters used in the process of business transactions.

v) Help in expansion of business
Business requires information regarding competing products, prevailing prices, promotion, market
activities, etc. If the trader has to run from place to place to get information, he will end up doing
nothing. It will simply result in loss of time. But through business letters, he can make all enquiries
about the products and the markets. He can also receive orders from different countries and, thus
enhance sales.

Writing the Essay

Writing the Essay is a workshop–style writing class, a forum for students to develop complex ideas,
think about the characteristics of effective and compelling writing, and engage in a conversation
about the essay form. The goal of the course is for you to improve as a writer, reader, and critical
and creative thinker, and for you to write essays that are finished products of high quality.
An essay must turn a question into a quest, to borrow the words of the writer John Fowles. A truly
engaging essay shows the movement of the writer's thinking–every new piece of evidence becomes

In order to receive a grade for each final essay, you must complete the writing assignments that lead
up to the essay. In other words, assigned writing exercises are a prerequisite to writing each final
essay.
Grades:
A work gives the reader a positive impression of excellence in all listed standards.
B work gives the reader a positive impression of general superiority in all listed standards.
C work is average in each standard.
D or F work is seriously deficient in one or more of the listed standards.
Final Grade:

Essay 2: 30%
Essay 3: 30%
Class participation/portfolio: 10%
Due Dates and Late Papers: Late papers will lose half a letter grade per class until they're turned
in (more than two weeks late will result in an F). At the end of each progression, please put all
exercises and drafts in a folder with your final essay on top, and turn the whole thing in
portfolio–style.
Attendance and Participation: Preparation, attendance, and speaking during discussions are all
important parts of the class. Much of the learning in writing courses occurs through active discussion
and in–class writing rather than through lectures. Therefore, to do well, you'll need to show up
literally and figuratively. More than two un–excused absences will most likely lower your final
grade; more than four absences will put you at a severe disadvantage in the course, because the work

Theme Of So Long A Letter
Mariama Ba's So Long a Letter is considered to be a widely read novel because of its cluster of
themes and universal truths which is packed together in the form of a novella. It has gained a
worldwide recognition because it focuses on the plight of women. Ba talks about the various forms
of oppression that women go through in order to survive their predicament. The issue of women's
oppression and empowerment has been one major theme in African literature in the last few
decades. Women suffer in this way as a result of various factors, some of which may be related to
traditional beliefs and practices in their societies. This is often interconnected with forms of race,
caste and economic oppression. So Long a Letter exemplifies an outburst of...show more content...

sisterhood where I can express myself, and have my skills nourished by prospering African

tragically two of my dearest friends did not. On the car third spin I squeezed my eyes shut, and

realized that I am here for a greater purpose, and vowed to take the necessary steps to fulfill that
purpose. God is not finished with me yet, and I do not want to sit on my Lord. Alpha Kappa

Rhetorical Analysis of "A Letter to My Son" by Tu–Nehisi Coates Racial injustice and Black
oppression is a topic seen in every newspaper and on every news station today. A topic considered
taboo in most social situations, is taken on by Tu–Nehisi Coates in "A Letter to My Son". Coates
creates an environment of familiarity, acceptance and relatability for the reader by using powerful
words choice and language that invokes emotions. Vulnerability and anger from his experience
incorporate a personal view and stake in the heated topic which is enhanced by a letter which eases
tension on a heated topic. The language that Coates uses engulfs the reader into his thoughts by
using vivid descriptions and actions. As he reveals his thoughts and concerns for his son, we are
placed in the mist of his fear and experiences. Although he is able to paint his world for us, he also
allows us to contemplate and interpret some of the meanings behind his words. Much as if we,
ourselves were developing the thoughts and ideas behind his points of view. In this sense, he is
telling the reader what to think while allowing them to process the information he has presented.
Even though his ideas are drawn from personal experience and may have no factual backing, the
mere contemplation of its correlation or being given some truth to the statement. Additionally, a tone
is set throughout the article, his language not only captures the mind but emotions. His descriptive
language intensifies when he

Comparing Email Vs. Traditional Letters
When compared on format, time and cost it is proven that emailing is more efficient than
traditional letters. In today's generation it is very rare for people to write traditional letters to each
other. This generation is becoming known for its quick and a technology based world. Emailing is
quick and simple and always at the tip of the fingers. Unlike emailing, traditional letters take time.
Emails are more commonly used than letters. This is because emails can be sent and received within
minutes. It is a much faster form of communication than a letter. In addition to the speed, an email
can be sent/received, emails can also be saved onto flash drives or directly on the computer.
Furthermore, with the new technology out today, many...show more content...
If someone is to write a more formal email you would start off by addressing the person by their
name and then get into the body of the email by replying to the purpose of the message. Most
emails are sent just for a quick reply.
Often times businesses use emails to communicate to other businesses, especially when dealing
with transactions. Having a record of when you talked to a person (email timestamps) is a
definitive way to make sure people hold up to their end of the deal. Businesses may also use emails
to share important documents with one another, you are able to attach a file and then you can share
any document you need to.
Communication through email is also able to cut down people's eco footprint. Using the internet to
share thoughts, documents, or have conversations cuts down the need for trees to be cut down.
When using an email, the only thing you need is the person's email address. Emails are not as
trustworthy as traditional letters however.
Traditional letters have a stronger trust behind them as most are hand delivered from door to door.
Often times with the capability to have a tracking number. Also like email, Traditional letters have
more of a formal format. Traditional letters usually start out with addressing the person in formal
way such as "Dear ... ", "Greetings ... ", "Good Morning/Evening/Afternoon", and etc.
A handwritten letter is seen as a more personal form of communication mainly because the

The Lost Art of Letter-Writing Essay
In the past week, how many texts, emails, or instant messages have you received? The majority of
you would probably answer, "too many to count." In fact, I would have the same answer as well.
Now, think about how many handwritten letters have you received? And by handwritten letters, I
mean a letter complete with a stamp and envelope, sent via post office. None at all? That's not
surprising, considering the great benefits of technological communication that cause people to make
the switch from communicating through letter–writing. According to an annual survey conducted by
the U.S. Postal Service, in 2010, a typical home received one personal letter every seven weeks. This
is a drop from the results produced in 1987, when a typical home...show more content...
Even though I knew my various colored pens would irk him, as they usually do, I stuck with my
decision because it represents me, and so through my choices, give off an illusion to him as if I
have never left his side and can still irk him from 785 miles away. The biggest difference between
emails and written letters, is the method of writing the contents: computer fonts versus handwriting.
Handwriting is unique to every individual, and so no two written letters look alike. This uniqueness
is not apparent in emails, because computer fonts are used and so there is no originality. Not to
mention, handwriting is personal; therefore when something handwritten is read, a small sense of
closeness and intimacy ensues, as opposed to the "cold" and distant feeling computer fonts ensue.
That's why most, if not all, love notes are handwritten, not typed; it's more romantic that way. Also
when someone is writing a letter, most of the time, the lines of sentences aren't perfectly straight,
whether there are lines provided or not. However, in a typed email, there are margins, spacing, and
"invisible" lines to help restrict the formatting of the letter. In addition, handwriting gives another
depth to the letter's content. For example, compare the phrase "I AM

  • 2. Mariama Bâ’s So Long a Letter Essay Mariama BГў's So Long a Letter When a person hears words like feminist or feminism, notions of what it means to be feminine, or consequently unfeminine, begin to dimly form in our mind's eye. Although we cannot definitively answer the question of what is feminine, we are able to recognize it when we see it or its absence. This conception, however, is arbitrary at best. What is it about an evening gown that seems to define and dress the feminine aura while a woman spitting would be denounced as inherently unfeminine? There is no question that Mariama BГў's novel, So Long a Letter, is undoubtedly a work of feminist literature. Although we are able to easily make this identification, it is much more difficult for us to define and...show more content... (Grosz 3) The social and not biological origin of these gender roles within a society imply that these rules can be changed, altered, or disregarded completely, allowing for social change and mobility. Ramatoulaye echoes Grosz's message in her conversation with Daouda in which she seeks to de–objectify women, and stresses the importance of women within a society: Women should no longer be decorative accessories, objects to be moved about, companions to be flattered or calmed with promises. Women are the nation's primary, fundamental root, from which all else grows and blossoms. (BГў 61–62) Although Ramatoulaye identifies and celebrates the importance of women as their own separate group, it would that she does without having to subordinate women to men. Using the ability to create life, she acknowledges the inherent difference between men and women without creating a hierarchy between them. This deconstruction of the male–female hierarchy is crucial in moving away from the patriarch dominated world into one of equality: For patriarchs, difference is understood in terms of inequality, distinction, or opposition, a sexual difference modeled on negative, binary, or oppositional structures within which only one of the two terms has any autonomy; the other is defined only Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It was written in 1850 by the famous American author Nathaniel Hawthorne. It documents the lives of three tragic characters, each of whom suffer greatly because of his or her sins. Shot Plot The story begins with Hester Prynne, a resident of a small Puritan community, being led from the town jailhouse to a public scaffold where she must stand for three hours as punishment for adultery. She must also wear a scarlet A on her dress for the rest of her life as part of her punishment. As she is led to the scaffold, many of the women in the crowd complain that...show more content... After Hester is released from prison, she goes to live in a small cottage at the edge of town. After a few years, people begin to notice that her daughter, Pearl, behaves very strangely, and they threaten to take her away from Hester. Hester takes Pearl to Governor Bellingham's mansion planning to plead for the right to keep her daughter. At the mansion she is met by the governor and his three guests, Reverend Wilson, Reverend Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth. Reverend Dimmesdale convinces the governor to allow Hester to keep Pearl. Chillingworth, who has been living with Reverend Dimmesdale since his arrival in town, begins to suspect that Reverend Dimmesdale is the father of Pearl. One evening while Dimmesdale is sleeping, Chillingworth examines Dimmesdale's chest and finds something which confirms his suspicion. From this moment on, Chillingworth devotes himself to seeking revenge. One night, Dimmesdale is so tormented by his conscience that he goes and stands on the scaffold that Hester had stood on seven years earlier. • 6. Reflective Letter Sample I'm writing this letter to tell you about my learning outcomes and experiences in your class. Let me start off by saying that 2017 has been the worst year of my life. Nothing went the way I wanted it to. I experienced so many different things and had been in so many wild situations. I had started losing sight of who I was as a young man which scared me. Until, your English 101 class. This class is one of the highlights of this whole year. I have learned so many things about myself in this class and it changed my overall perspective of life. I am a better me in all aspects especially mentally. Plus, I have developed my writing skills and became a better writer overall. I have changed so much as a writer throughout this quarter in your class. For example, coming into your class my conclusion was horrible and I knew it was because teachers told me this in the past, but never really told me how to fix it. Until you finally told me when writing your conclusion ask yourself "So What". This helped me so much and it shows on assignments like the Autoethnography. Like you always say, "If you know better, you do better". The biggest reason my writing skills have improved is because of the amount of writing we do in your class. I have written more papers in this class in one quarter than I have written in 4 quarters in my Honors English class last year. Crazy right? The fact of the matter is that practice makes perfect. The more I practice something the more flaws I will catch and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. "The Scarlet Letter" One main theme present in the work "The Scarlet Lette" is that of sin and guilt. Nathaniel Hawthorne attempts to show how guilt can be a form of everlasting punishment. The book represents sin and guilt through symbolism and character development. In his novel, "The Scarlet Letter", Nathaniel Hawthorne explains how the punishment of guilt causes the most suffering among those affected. As with any piece, symbolism plays an important role in representing the main ideas of a novel. The plot in "The Scarlet Letter" revolves around three significant events that describe the development of the story. As both starting point and ending point of the novel, the scaffold scenes hold symbolic meaning. The first scaffold scene introduces the reader...show more content... As the book opens, Hester is brought forth from the jail and walked to the scaffold. For the first time being seen in public named an adulterer, Hester shies from the public as they mock her. However, "She never battled with the public, but submitted uncomplainingly to its worst usage; she made no claim upon it, in requital for what she suffered; she did not weight upon its sympathies." (Hawthorne 140). Soon, it did not matter what other people thought of Hester because of her sin. She chose not to live with the humiliation, but she did have to live with herself. Having to deal with her daughter Pearl day in and day out is a punishment in itself as well. Most people, including Hester, view Peal as a demon child. However, Hester hesitates to punish Pearl for being so. She feels guilty as it is, placing a burden on Pearl's life, for Peal is branded as the child of an adulterer, all of this resulting from Hester's 'passionate sin'. (Guilt as Reparation for Sin, paragraph 14). The minister Dimmesdale is greatly affected by the weight of guilt he carries with him everyday of his proceeding life. Since his sin is unknown to society, there is not a public crowd to look down upon him, but one Roger Chillingworth who lives just to torture Dimmesdale. He wishes and prays most often that the public know of his wrong, rather than hold it secret, as it would be less painful. "Happy are you, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A topic considered taboo in most social situations, is taken on by Tu–Nehisi Coates in "A Letter to My Son". Coates creates an environment of familiarity, acceptance and relatability for the reader by using powerful words choice and language that invokes emotions. Vulnerability and anger from his experience incorporate a personal view and stake in the heated topic which is enhanced by a letter which eases tension on a heated topic. The language that Coates uses engulfs the reader into his thoughts by using vivid descriptions and actions. As he reveals his thoughts and concerns for his son, we are placed in the mist of his fear and experiences. Although he is able to paint his world for us, he also allows us to contemplate and interpret some of the meanings behind his words. Much as if we, ourselves were developing the thoughts and ideas behind his points of view. In this sense, he is telling the reader what to think while allowing them to process the information he has presented. In today's generation it is very rare for people to write traditional letters to each other. This generation is becoming known for its quick and a technology based world. Emailing is quick and simple and always at the tip of the fingers. Unlike emailing, traditional letters take time. Emails are more commonly used than letters. This is because emails can be sent and received within minutes. It is a much faster form of communication than a letter. In addition to the speed, an email can be sent/received, emails can also be saved onto flash drives or directly on the computer. Furthermore, with the new technology out today, many...show more content... If someone is to write a more formal email you would start off by addressing the person by their name and then get into the body of the email by replying to the purpose of the message. Most emails are sent just for a quick reply. Often times businesses use emails to communicate to other businesses, especially when dealing with transactions. Having a record of when you talked to a person (email timestamps) is a definitive way to make sure people hold up to their end of the deal. Businesses may also use emails to share important documents with one another, you are able to attach a file and then you can share any document you need to. Communication through email is also able to cut down people's eco footprint. Using the internet to share thoughts, documents, or have conversations cuts down the need for trees to be cut down. When using an email, the only thing you need is the person's email address. Emails are not as trustworthy as traditional letters however. Traditional letters have a stronger trust behind them as most are hand delivered from door to door. Often times with the capability to have a tracking number. Also like email, Traditional letters have more of a formal format. Traditional letters usually start out with addressing the person in formal way such as "Dear ... ", "Greetings ... ", "Good Morning/Evening/Afternoon", and etc. A handwritten letter is seen as a more personal form of communication mainly because the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In fact, I would have the same answer as well. Now, think about how many handwritten letters have you received? And by handwritten letters, I mean a letter complete with a stamp and envelope, sent via post office. None at all? That's not surprising, considering the great benefits of technological communication that cause people to make the switch from communicating through letter–writing. The biggest difference between emails and written letters, is the method of writing the contents: computer fonts versus handwriting. Handwriting is unique to every individual, and so no two written letters look alike. This uniqueness is not apparent in emails, because computer fonts are used and so there is no originality. Not to mention, handwriting is personal; therefore when something handwritten is read, a small sense of closeness and intimacy ensues, as opposed to the "cold" and distant feeling computer fonts ensue. That's why most, if not all, love notes are handwritten, not typed; it's more romantic that way. Also when someone is writing a letter, most of the time, the lines of sentences aren't perfectly straight, whether there are lines provided or not. However, in a typed email, there are margins, spacing, and "invisible" lines to help restrict the formatting of the letter. In addition, handwriting gives another depth to the letter's content. For example, compare the phrase "I AM Get more content on HelpWriting.net
