Working with files is much the same as working with folders. If you are not careful, you can put files in the wrong folder or forget what you named them.
If you rewrite or create a new version of a document, you may want to rename it. The easiest way to do this is to add a date to the title. That way, you know the file with the most recent date is the most up to date document. For example, when updating my resume, I rename them, i.e. Resume6_27_10, Resume2_12_11.
In this activity you will move a file by copying it, then pasting it. We will then practice renaming and deleting the file.
First, we need to create a file to work with.
Open up Microsoft Word.
Type your name in the document.
Click of the File button, then choose Save As.
Click the My documents folder, then click the folder you named “Your Name sample pictures.” In the File Name box, title you document, “Your Name’s File”.
Click the Save button.
