LIVE LEARN LEAD
The educational landscape has changed!
The top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010…

       did not exist in 2004.
We are currently preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist…

using technologies that haven't been invented…

in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet.
Today's 21-year-olds have:

           Watched 20,000 hours of TV
Played 10,000 hours of video games
Talked 10,000 hours on the phone
Sent/received 250,000 emails or instant messages
The number of internet devices in 1984 was 1,000.
           In 1992 it was 1,000,000.
            In 2008, 1,000,000,000.
There are over 300 million active users of Facebook
More than 6 billion minutes are spent on Facebook each day

               (worldwide)
More than 2 billion photos are uploaded to Facebook
                     each month
There are 31 Billion searches on Google every month.
In 2006, this number was 2.7 Billion.
The first text message was
     sent in December of 1992.
Today, the number of text messages
sent and received everyday exceeds
the total population of the planet.
It took Radio 38 years to reach a market audience of 50 million.

                         TV, 13 years
                       Internet, 4 years
                         iPod 3 years
                      Facebook, 2 years
The amount of new technical information is
            doubling every 2 years.

For students starting a 4 year technical degree
                this means that…

half of what they learn in their first year of study will
be outdated by their third year of study.

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking
we used when we created them."

Technology Infrastructure
The number of Web pages (including digital assets) published by
the LMU Community doubles every 16 months.

There are currently 1 million Web pages, images and videos
published on LMU.edu. In 2005, there were 200,000. In 2006,
                    there were 400,000.
LMU.edu Web sites have had 25,000,000 unique visitors in the past
12 months. That represents a 68% increase over the 12-month
period ending in September, 2007 when we last redesigned our
                        Web presence.

That’s an average of 68,500 unique visitors per day. That’s a new
person on our Web site every 0.58 seconds 24/7/365. Those are
unique visits, no one person is counted twice all year long.
Approximately 900 classes are using MYLMU Connect to share
        information, communicate and collaborate.

50 active organizations are using MYLMU Connect.
Average of 1,400 downloads a week of public accessible content.
Echo 360 Classroom capture installed in 14 rooms.
As of September 24, 167 captures have been recorded.
