Isaiah

struggled with idolatry.
• The unrighteousness of the people led to spiritual
weakness and political peril.
• Israel became subject to the military power of
Assyria.
• Trials and tribulations—but in the end the Lord will
comfort his people, and will have mercy upon his
afflicted.

Nephites
• During this period the Nephites and the Lamanites
rose in prosperity and struggled with idolatry.
• The unrighteousness of the people led to spiritual
weakness and political peril.
• Nephites and Lamanites were subjected to military
oppression, and eventually destroyed each other
• Trials and tribulations—But in end—And after it had come
forth unto them I beheld other books, which came forth by the
power of the Lamb . . . unto the convincing of . . . the remnant
of the seed of my brethren . . . that the records of the prophets
and of the twelve apostles of the Lamb are true.

 How do we liken the scriptures unto ourselves for
―profit and learning‖?
 Questions like the following ones can help us profitably apply the
scriptures to our lives:
 What significance does this particular event or principle have for
me today?
 What does the rebellion of Laman and Lemuel teach me?
 What can I learn about faithfulness from Nephi’s obedience?
 If I were in this particular situation or faced with this challenge or
question, how would I react?
