This is a quiz I conducted recently as a part of Jaquizzi.
This bollywood / movie quiz has 20 questions. The first round has 10 questions (3 clues each) whereas the second round has 10 straight questions.

• Born in Dhaka, I moved to Calcutta in 1935 to
become camera assistant to P C Barua.
• My daughter married Basu Bhattacharya, who
was my assistant on Madhumati and Sujata,
against my wishes. She later divorced him for
domestic abuse.
• Coming from a Zamindar family, I was inspired
to make Do Bigha Zameen after watching
‘Bicycle Thieves’

• Born in Bangalore to a Brahmin family, my
original name was Vasanth Padukone. It was
changed when my family moved to Kolkata to
sound more auspicious and Bengali.
• I started working as a telephone operator at
Lever Brothers before moving to Pune to join
Prabhat Films, where I met Dev Anand. Dev and I
became friends and he starred in my first film
Baazi.
• 3 of my most famous movies were written by
Abrar Alvi and starred Waheeda Rehman & I.

• I started my career as a photographer in Godhara
and later moved on to printing in color, still a new
technology in India. Worked as an assistant to
painter Raja Ravi Verma for some time.
• The 2009 Marathi film, India’s official entry to the
Oscars that year, was based on my struggles of
making my first film
• One of the highest civilian honors in India is
named after me. It was first given to Devika Rani
in 1969

• My director wanted to make me in 1944 with
Chandramohan and Nargis in the lead roles
but Chandramohan died in 1946.
• Bade Ghulam Ali Khan sang two songs in me –
Prem Jogan Ban Ke & Shubh Din Aayo and
charged 25,000 Rs for it when Lata and Rafi
used to charge 500 Rs. for a song.
• I was the highest grossing film of all time from
1960 to 1975 (Sholay).

• Born as Mahajabeen Bano, I used to write poetry
under the pen-name Naaz.
• There are various parallels between my life and
Monroe’s. Like her, I died young. Like her, I had a
troubled marriage with an author (Kamal Amrohi).
• Such was my dominance that in 1963, I was the only
person nominated in the Filmfare Best Actress category

• I was written by Zeishan Quadri but he got
more fame as a defining and important
character he played in me.
• I was shot as a single film of 319 minutes but
no Indian theater was willing to screen a 5
hour + film so I was divided in two parts.
• My story is centered around the coal mafia
and I get my name from a locality in Dhanbad.

• Sadashiv Amarpurkar’s debut. Probably the only
hindi art-house films to have a sequel. The sequel
was called Party
• Often considered to be one of the top cop films

Dilip Chitre which the lead reads in the film.
