Age rating
I have done some research on BBFC (British Board of film
classification), this is because to find out the different age
rating, also to know what is suited and allowed to put into
the audience our film opening.
Who are the BBFC?
The BBFC are an organisation that is
accountable for the age rating, they have
the power to tell the directors to change
some of the scenes if it’s inappropriate for
the age rating. They have 5 types of age
classifications which has been set by the
BBFC, they are the following, U, PG, 15, 18
and R18 Restricted.
U
U- Universal films suitable
for everyone age 4 or over
and it should not involve
any disturbing violence
for young children to
watch.
PG
PG – parental guidance –
films that anyone can see
but with a warning that
they may contain material
thought unsuitable for
children. Some scenes
may be unsuitable for
young children; however it
should not disturb
children around eight or
over.
12A
12A- films containing
material suitable for
those who are 12 years old
or over but only for
children under this age
who are accompanied by
a responsible adult.
Children under 12 are not
allowed to watch a 12A
film unless accompanied
by an adult
15
15- Films containing
material suitable only for
those who are 15 years old
or over. No one younger
than 15 and under or nor
allowed to watch 15 films
in cinema
18
18 – Films containing
material suitable only for
those who are 18 years old
or over. If anyone under 18,
they are not allowed to
watch an 18 film in cinema
as it will include violence
and sexual scenes that
will be appropriate for
young children.
R18 Restricted
R18- to be shown in
licensed cinemas, this
category involves
consenting sex and strong
fetish material. Only
adults are allowed to
watch this rate film.
During that research I find out that the popular
category of age rating 15. For my film opening I
decided to rate our film 15 rating. This is because we
decide that our film opening will be suited for this age
rate. As our film opening wouldn't include any
violence or sexual context that will be appropriate for
                   our target audience.
