2. • Carnival is not celebrated everywhere in
Germany. Especially many people
celebrate it in the Rhineland. Well known
are the celebrations in the cities of
Cologne, Dusseldorf and Mainz. But in
other parts of Germany they celebrate
this festival. Only you are there to the
festival a different name. It says
"Fastnacht" or
"Fasching".

to celebrate is very old. In the 13th Century
there were carnivals, and a carnival king was
elected. Carnival is a time to even have to be
really funny. People dress up and pulls

5. • Patra’s Carnival is the best in Greece!
• Every year in January, there is the
opening of the Carnival in George’s
square with lots of music, dancing and
fireworks!

6. • The Treasure Hunt is a very popular game
in the centre of the Carnival! Thousands of
people form Carnival groups and make their
costumes. They participate in various
games and competitions such as ‘the best
hat’, ‘the best costume’, ‘the best float’,
‘the best mask’, ‘the best hairstyle’, ‘find
these items’, answer this quiz’ etc.

7. • There is a Carnival parade for chools a
week before Carnival’s last weekend. On
the last weekend the Treasure Hunt groups
parade with their floats and lots of music!!
Thousands of visitors come to Patra to
watch the parades or take part in them!
• The end of the Carnival takes place on
Sunday evening when they burn the
Carnival float and fireworks light up the
sky!

• Every year there is a
Carnival parade in
Leiria. This year the
theme is ‘Jobs’. The
school will participate
in the parade with all
the city’s schools on
February 28th
.
14. Visit in Patra – Carnival time!
• When the partners visited the Greek
school in February 2014, they took
part in a ‘Treasure Hunt’ game just
like the groups in the real Carnival!
• It was a great chance for everyone to
feel how Carnival is celebrated in
Greece!
