Hospital pharmacy is a department services in the hospital organisation managed
under the direction of professionally competent legally qualified pharmacist and
deals with the

11. Infrastructure and work load structure of staff in
hospital pharmacy:
Guide line for staff:
Chief pharmacist:
He is responsible for the development and supervision and coordination of all activities carried out in
hospital/pharmacy department
One registered pharmacist for average 133 patients, including inpatient, outpatient.
However, a team of four pharmacist is required to provide round the clock services for hospital with an
average on 500 patients.
There should be one typist cum clerk for each hospital pharmacy

13. WORK LOAD STATISTICS
Definition:
• It is the function that is performed by the pharmacy staff in an assigned area. Monthly, the
workload per section is collected for inclusion into a departmental report.
Purpose:
• To describe the method for obtaining and analysing workload statistics for pharmacy
department to be utilised in departmental staffing and work distribution plan
• Head of pharmacy is responsible for approving the statistics and sending to the hospital
administration.

14. Policies:
– Determining the standard time for every activity in the pharmacy department.
– All activities involved in drug distribution are identified and collected in workload date reporting
sheets
– Computers may be obtained from the pharmacy computer system.
– Collection of data is performed at the beginning of each hijrah month.
– The final monthly report will be compiled and submitted to the head of pharmacy services.
– The total workload of session is collected to be included into one department report, this report
will be submitted to hospital administration

15. Collect the following log sheets in the inpatient pharmacy
area:
– Nursing unit inspection guide.
– TPN record sheets.
– Count the no. of medications prepared in extemporaneous compounding log binder for the
indicated time frame.
Report the workload of outpatient pharmacy:
– No. of single item prescription processed per month
– No. of multiple items prescription processed per month
– Indicate total workload for the following:
– Unit dose/ bulk items
– TPN bags prepared.
