Pengertian Pokok
Revolusi hijau ( green revolution ) adalah pengembangan
teknologi pertanian untuk meningkatkan produksi tanaman
pangan , terutama tanaman serealia ( Bahan makanan pokok
seperti padi, jagung, kentang, gandul dll ).
Metode yang ditempuh revolusi hijau dapat berbagai seperti :

Contoh keberhasilan : IRRI berhasil mengembangkan bibit unggul padi baru
yang produktif yang dikenal dengan IR 8. Keungggulan usia tanaman pendek
sehingga dalam jangka waktu 1 tahun dapat dipanen sammpai 3 kali .
Tujuan kedua pusat penelitian : Untuk mencari dan mengembangkan berbagai
varietas tanaman penghasil biji – bijian yang berproduksi tinggi yang berskala

• Revolusi Hijau di Indonesia sudah dimulai sejak berlakunya UU Agraria pada tahun
1870 yang dikeluarkan oleh pemerintah kolonial Belanda, sehingga di Indonesia
dapat dikembangkan berbagai jenis tanaman.
• Dalam perkembangannya pada masa Orde Baru, program Revolusi Hijau
digunakan sebagai salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan produksi pangan di
Indonesia, terutama produksi beras.
• Revolusi Hijau dilaksanakan secara sistematis, terprogram, dan terus-menerus
sehigga dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat Indonesia. Hal itu
dibuktikan dengan Indonesia mampu meningkatkan swasembada pangan yaitu
penghasil beras sehingga Presiden Soeharto mendapat Penghargaan Nobel.

PERKEMBANGAN TEKNOLOGI
Perkembangan teknologi memberikan pengaruh positif bagi Indonesia khususnya bagi peningkatan
industri pangan:

Digunakannya pupuk buatan dan zat-zat kimia untuk memberantas hama penyakit sehingga produksi
pertanian pun meningkat.

Adapun dampak negatif dari perkembangan teknologi tersebut adalah:
Timbulnya pencemaran pada air maupun tanah akibat penggunaan pestisida (pupuk kimia) yang
berlebih.
Penggunaan pestisida dapat membunuh hama tanaman, serangga pemakan hama, burung, ikan dan
hewan lainnya.
Adanya sistem peladangan berpindah atau penebangan pohon dalam jumlah besar yang dilakukan oleh
pihak pemegang Hak Pengusahaan Hutan (HPH) guna dibuat pemukiman baru menyebabkan
kerusakan lingkungan kususnya pada ekosistem tanah.
Semakin sempit lahan pertanian karena diubah menjadi wilayah pemukiman dan industri.
Meningkatnya kegitan penggalian sumber alam, pertambangan liar yang kurang memperhatikan kondisi
lingkungan.
Pengurangan jumlah tenaga kerja manusia yang terlibat dalam proses produksi karena telah tergantikan
oleh mesin-mesin sehingga bersifat padat modal dan hemat tenaga kerja. Berdampak pada munculnya
pengangguran.
