2. Brainstorming
The First Objective of our ‘preliminary task’ was to build
an idea of a short clip as a film that would later be
transcribed into a script with a flowing narrative. As I
started late into Media As group I had the pressure of
completing this on my own. However haven been given a
week to finish off a pitch and create a proposal which
included a synopsis of our short film and its themes.
3. Proposal
Due to arriving into Media AS class late the groups were full,
therefore I had one option whereby I had to do the Preliminary
Task all by myself. Due to this I had thought of doing a film
around the type of area (East London) I come from whereby A
series of films named “Top Boy” was the initial influence that
made me grasp towards having similarities of this in my film.
Once I had decided that I would do this genre of “Drama” or else
referred to as “Hood Politics” I then turned to the narrative &
start writing the script aspects of the task in which then helped in
order to be prepared for the filming. In order to do this I needed
two actors, despite not having a group I turned to friends outside
of college who were more than willing to help! This then got me
prepared to start filming for the preliminary task.
4. Filming
To start filming it was important that I had the right time to film in as we
were notified it is not something that can be done within an hour (figured
why when started filming). During filming I had realised I was not given a
charger/requested for one therefore has 3 hours on the battery life to
complete the filming. Furthermore another aspect of ‘time’ was when to
do it as it was difficult to manage work from other subjects and to find
the right time as I had friends (actors in my film) who also had their
studies to think about. However due to an extension for the task through
half term break this was the perfect opportunity to gather my helpers
who both made time for me to record and in the end the filming got
completed after several shots/takes carefully reviewed by my & their
opinions/perspective. Despite not thinking I would need an extra It came
in extremely handy in terms of holding the mic while I record to ensure
quality of sound was good. Overall I have learnt that a key aspect in
filming is time management skills and preparation therefore something
which would be taken into consideration when starting the next project
(Main Task).
5. Editing/Post - Production
As I was a one man team in completing this project I had not had other
peers to help me to edit, therefore editing aspect was completed all by me
and the help of YouTube. Having not used ‘Premier Pro’ before I turned to
YouTube tutorials which helped me to learn how to edit and add music
and also key extra skills such as sound engineering to ensure the music
does not overload speech and to get the right volume for when music
faded in and faded out.
Editing for me took time due to not having peers to work with however I
pulled through by ensuring I took on the responsibility of updating script,
proposal an other key documents. I had been given the benefit of the
doubt to arriving to Media As class late and extension time was given
which gave me time to go through things properly and helped me to finish
my final product (Film: “The Trap”) which is currently live on YouTube on
my channel.
6. Evaluation
Throughout this project one key thing that I picked up on was
‘Time Management’. I believe that time is genuinely of the
essence as it came to realisation that leaving things late cause a
lot of delays and therefore would cause an issue for your task as it
is strictly important to meet deadlines. However despite this,
working with no peers was also something in which I believe is
difficult, and was something I was looking forward to doing on the
next task whereby I could learn from this first ‘preliminary task’.
Despite realising the mounted amounts of work to be done for one
individual was difficult motivation, hard work and dedication
proved to be a key thing in order to have finished this project and
be extremely happy with the outcome. Overall I was happy doing
this individually as it only helped me to develop skills be
independent and helped me gain key sills for when the main task
approaches and I would be working in a group.
