Stories of Origin and Important People Jesus: The Birth of Jesus- when the angel Gabriel came down to Mary who was engaged with Joseph  Baptized by John the Baptist- got recognized as the Christ  Jesus’ teachings and his miracles- calming the storm Crucifixion and Resurrection Resurrection of Jesus Jesus getting baptized Calming the Storm
Core Beliefs Monotheistic god and the Trinity Belief that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God Abrahamic faith- based off from Abraham Jesus The belief of Jesus the son of God Jesus The Trinity
Holy Writings Bible: The New testament-has 27 books The Old Testament		  Gospels written by: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John  The first four books in the New Testament are the four gospels The Old Testament in the Bible The 4 gospels  The New Testament in the Bible
Symbols and Objects Cross: Symbol for Jesus life-shaped the structure which Jesus was crucified Represents his sacrifice of his own body Fish (Ichthus): Represents baptism Ancient Greek word for Christian’s life or Jesus’ Dove:  Represents the holy spirits For peace Crown of Thorns: Jesus wore before crucified Represents sins Christian Cross Fish symbol The Dove Symbol
Holy Places and Places of Worship Churches and what is inside: Go to have time with themselves and God Cross is in churches because that is what Jesus died on  Holy Water to bless yourself is in the church  Altar is inside which is a table with a cross in the middle and candles on each side. The bible is usually on it Church with a cross Holy water in a church An Altar inside a Church
Rituals and Rites of Passage A funeral Baptism: The water symbolizes purification and cleansing Immerse or pour the water over the babies head depending on what branch you are  Marriage: Matrimony means marriage It marks when you make a big commitment to spend your life with someone else Death: Holy Orders means death Passage to eternal life A funeral may include, a wake or a period of mourning and prayer Holy Water A baby getting baptized A Christian Marriage in a Church
Celebrations and Holidays Christmas: To mark Jesus’ birth Have a big feast to celebrate Lent: Connects to story of Jesus because it is when he was in the dessert fro 40 days You give up something because Jesus suffered in the dessert Easter: Is the last day of Lent Jesus’ resurrection Christmas decorations to celebrate Jesus in the dessert Jesus’ resurrection, which is Easter
