Creating My Double Page Spread
I started by choosing a few pictures I thought I would include in my double page spread I like the image on the right as she looks really happy and casual and normal. I like the image below as I think it will work well if it goes across the double page and has the story around her. I like the picture on the left as she looks very deep and intense which shows a different side to the picture above.
I started creating my double page by editing my main photo. I flipped so I would be able to have the title just next. I also cut it out so the image had no background. I made some other minor changers such as removing any blemishes on her face. I created an A3 layout and put in 6 columns so I would be able to base the columns in my magazine evenly around these set ones.
I then created a black banner across the top of the page with a small black rectangle with the artists name Cory Harper in the top right hand corner. This is to make the top of the page a little bit more interesting. I used the font was ReservoirGrunge
Next I drew a black box and wrote some appropriate questions that fans may ask. I made this bold and the answers normal. I thought the black box on the white background would be quite affective. But I thought it didn’t quite look right. I took pictures of some of my close friends that looked like they had been sent in and put each picture next to a question as I have seen this done in KERRANG! magazine.
I wrote a quote I thought would engage the readers as its fun and quirky. I also made this blue to match the caption and I just chose that font as I thought it was the type KERRANG! Magazine would use. I added the name of the artist as the main title and use the font Reservoir Grunge again so the fonts were fairly consistent. I used the font Verdana for the text underneath as its fairly simple and I knew I could use it for the main text. I also made this blue as I decided I wanted my colour scheme to be black, white and blue.
I added page numbers to the bottom of each page which made it look like a proper magazine. I also wrote my story which I thought was fairly simply. Each question is blue and bold so they stand out from the answer.
I added one last improvement which was an arrow to signal there is another page. I decided to another page as I thought mine was lexically sparse and the story was too short. I made the arrow blue to keep add a bit more colour.
I started my single page similarly to the first by adding 3 columns that I could arrange my text columns around so they were even. I also added a banner across the top to show it was the same article and keep it consistent and added the number at the bottom as on the previous page.
Next I set up my layout which is very simple but I think it will be very affective. The boxes I have drawn over the image on the left represent where the columns of text. The other spaces will be a quote and images.
With the text almost in place as it will be when the quote and images added I think the page looks a lot busier and immediately a lot more complete. Also the red lines underneath some the of the words show the language I have used in the interview. I have used slang and colloquial language to make Cory seem relatable and modern. Also I keep the question and responses the same format, with the questions blue and bold and the response just the normal font.
This is the final design for the extra page I have added to my double page spread. I added the quote in the same font as the main heading on the previous page and used the same colour scheme I have used throughout. This is to keep it consistent. Finally I added a picture of my model standing that fit nicely into the column and broke up the text.
This is the complete double page spread and extra page
