1. Whether That Such
Today, I got an e-mail from Phuong Nguyen my best friend. She is lives in Vietnam.
She sent to me some letters, asked me about my health, my life and how I’ve been doing.
She made me once more become an emotional person. It made me remembered the days
and the months. I lived in Vietnam, which was more than ½ year ago. There were a lot of
memories.
On one day in the summer of 2008. I got some news that made a big change in my life.
I heard the new from my parents. They told me that in the next haft month we would
come to live in the U.S. That time I felt so confused, I didn’t know if that was a good
news or bad news. First thing I thought about was some of my friends. We might not live
and study in this country anymore. Then I picked up the telephone and called Nhan
Nguyen. He is my best friend. We became friends in high school. I made an appointment
with him at a familiar coffee bar, the bar we usually went to there in the morning.
After thirty minutes. I came to the coffee bar, I saw Nhan Nguyen waited for me in
there. The young woman brought to us two cups of coffee. I started to tell Nhan Nguyen
the news. He was surprised.
First, he was happy and congratulated me. But after a while I saw his face looked sad.
Then he asked when I will start to go. I told him next last month.
Nhan Nguyen stopped talking and looked at the street. He threw the last tiny of cigarette
that had started to burn his hand. But he didn’t light another cigarette like his habit.
That time as it so near to the day my family would move to live in the U.S. I was too
busy and I asked Nhan Nguyen to help me make a date with some of my friends the next
week. He agreed that he will help…
As that day came, we agreed to see each other at a familiar bar near out school. We had
a lot of thing to talk about after the summer holidays. But not everyone was happy while I
told them the news. Someone didn’t want me to move to the U.S. they told me I should
stay there and be together study with them. Some of them, they felt too sad, but they
thought it was better for me to have a chance to come here and study. I told them, that I
made a decision. Everyone drank sodas and listened to the cheery music, but that time
nobody could feel cheery.
At 11:00 am, we found a Cafeteria to eat lunch. After, we wanted to go to visit some
where around the city, but someone said, they had something needed to do in the
afternoon and we made another appointment for thet night. I wanted to go to the house of
Nhan Nguyen to take a nap. But Phuong Nguyen and some of her friends invited me to
go to visit there accommodation. I hadn’t been there before…

2. In the middle of the summer the weather in Hue city too hot. We sat down in the
accommodation of Phuong Nguyen and talked. After a while latte, suddenly Phuong
Nguyen wanted me to go out with her to do something. Actually, the last night I didn’t
slept well and wanted to take a nap. Then I asked Nhan Nguyen to go with her. But, it
looked Phuong Nguyen didn’t wanted to go with him. That time, her face was come pink,
like she has some thing want talk to me. However Phuong Nguyen didn’t tell me. But I
could discover that thing in her eyes. I felt confused; it seemed Nhan Nguyen understood
everything. Then he wanted to stay and I had to go with her.
I asked Phuong Nguyen: “Where do you want to go?”
“Please take me to the gift store; I have some thing I need to buy.” Phuong Nguyen
answered.
“What do you want to buy?” I asked her curiously.
“That’s a secret…” Phuong Nguyen smiled and answered.
Then I didn’t continue asking. I rode motorcycle and took Phuong Nguyen to the store.
After Phuong Nguyen bought the gift. We didn’t come back to her accommodation that
time. I took her to a place nearest the famous river between Hue cities. We took a walk to
the waterside. In the afternoon there was a lot of windy around the waterside and some of
the trees looked like wants fell down with the windy. We walked slowly and talked for a
while. We talked a lot of thing, about holiday’s summer, school and my new change. It
seemed Phuong Nguyen and me were comfortable in the way we talked. But I could no
understand that’s Phuong Nguyen always remaindered me to remember friends like her
when I got to the U.S.
As that we came back to Phuong Nguyen’s accommodation, Nhan Nguyen had waited for
me for hours. Then he rode his motorcycle and took me visit around the city. We went to
a lot of places there and we didn’t know where we had never been. In the summer the
weather was hot and too sunny. Then we brainstormed to go to the beach. Nhan Nguyen
wanted to go back to Phuong Nguyen accommodation and take her and some of my
friends to go to the beach enjoin the beach. But the way come back from there too long
and we wanted to have a free time to swim on the beach. We spent about two hours
riding by motorcycle from the city to there. When we got there, we excitedly ran to ran to
the sea swam and ate sea food. We had a good time. Although, Nhan Nguyen had a
problem, when we were enjoying swimming in the sea, he didn’t wear the swimsuit.
Then he lost the key of his motorcycle when we swam. And then we discovered Nhan
Nguyen lost his key, it was too late, we could not find it. Both of us got long faces.
Suddenly, I remembered in the past , I had an opportunity to see my father repair his
motorcycle. I saw one of the ways he could make his motorcycle start the engine. Nhan
Nguyen and I came to ask for the vehicle custodian to borrow some of the tools. But
when we showed our problem to the vehicle custodian, he said he could help us start the
engine of Nhan Nguyen’s motorcycle. He brought to us his skeleton key. We tried to
open the lock, and it was amazing, the motorcycle’s engine started.
Nhan Nguyen and I were surprised, thankful for the vehicle custodian. Then we
continued doing back to Phuong Nguyen’s accommodation. At 6:00 pm, we got there to
take her and someone to the dating place, but they weren’t there. Then we called Phuong

3. Nguyen, she told us that she and some of our friends had gotten to the dating place
already. The dating place was at “Karaoke bar” where we had agreed to meet.

Because we had some problem with the motorcycle, then we came late. We got to the
Karaoke bar after thirty minutes. Nhan Nguyen and I saw some of our friends had been
waiting for us at the front of the bar. We went inside the room and played music. Some of
my friends and I decided for the meeting tonight, everyone should just drink beers, not
drink soda and get drunk. Some of the girls were scared and worried. But that night was
my last night to see them. All of us knew this time was precious.
At the meeting ended, it seemed all of us almost got drunk. All our faces were pink,
perhaps because the beers and perhaps because we felt sad. Then we took a long walk on
the street. I thought it will be sad at the time we have to say good-bye, but I could not
believe it was sadder than I thought. Someone cried, some of them gave to me some gifts.
After the party said good-bye to friends and my class. The next day, I followed my family
to take a flight to the U.S. On the airplane I was too tired, then I spent more time
sleeping. When we got near to the U.S, I saw the extremely beautiful city of Sanfrancisco
with some leters on the top “ Welcome to Sanfrancisco”. The place that a lot of people
was hoped to live in there was my family. Right then when we got there in our minds we
had a lot of expect for our new country, our new home…
