Lh Surge And Pregnancy Test
Understanding Luteinizing hormone

Sandy asks…

How long should I wait to take a First Response Pregnancy test?
I used the First Response Ovulation Prediction Test this month and I got a positive LH surge
on Sunday, January 9th, 2011. My husband and I tried for a baby on the 8th, 9th, and 11th. I
had very light cramping on the 14th-16th. I was wondering how long I should wait until I take a
First Response Early Response test that tells you 6 days before? Thanks!

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

Wait till at least the 20th or even better, the 24. Good Luck!

                                                                                           1/6
Betty asks…

When should I test for pregnancy?
If I tested positive on an ovulation test last Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday(all of the
test lines were super dark) and I bd’d a majority of the days. When should I take a pregnancy
test??

I’m not sure if I ovulated during the LH surge or after. What do you think?

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

You should test 10-12 dpo. I think you O when you have the LH surge.

Lisa asks…

                                                                                            2/6
So I accidently purchased an ovulation test instead of a pregnancy
test……?
So I just now realized I purchased an Ovulation Test instead of a pregnancy test after taking
the test I read no LH Surge. I’m about a week late on my period and I’m flippin’ out. I recently
started walking 4-5 times a week to shed some lbs, could this be the reason my period hasn’t
come? My stomache cramped last Saturday so I thought for sure it would come last Sunday, but
it didn’t =(

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

You CAN use the ovulation test to detect pregnancy. LH and hCG are very similar…ovulation kits
pick up pregnancy, but it doesn’t work the other way around.

If you don’t have a positive on that, it is relatively safe to say you aren’t pregnant. The exercise
may delay your period. However, if you are newly pregnant, you may not have enough hCG in
your system to detect pregnancy. No matter what, if your period doesn’t come for a few more
days, I’d suggest testing again, and this time with a real pregnancy test.

Donna asks…

what is the difference with all the signs on the pregnancy test
result?

                                                                                               3/6
Well, last night and today i took a result test and i had two lines but they were different because
one of it was light and dark. When i read the box that i had First Response i was wondering
what does NO LH Surge means?

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

Two lines mean your pregnant regardless of how light or dark they are. LH stands for
Luteinizing Hormone and is the chemical that increases during ovulation so i guess having no
LH surge would mean your not ovulating which makes sense if your pregnant.

Laura asks…

how to read my results for a pregnancy test?
Okay, so last night i took two pregnancy tests. from first response the first time. my refrence
line showed up darker than my test line. you could barely see it. then later on that night i took
another one, and my refrence line only showed up.
so i dont know what it means.? and i also dont know what a LH surge is.?
i dont have my periods until some time in sept.

                                                                                              4/6
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

Wait untill morning time and use your first urine, it has the highest concentration of HCG. A LH
surge has to do with ovulation, not pregnancy tests. Its the lutenizing hormone which is present
when you ovulate. Here is some more information on what a LH surge is:

http://www.ovulation-calculator.com/ovulation-tests.htm

First response is supposed to be a good brand of pregnancy tests, but since the two tests are
different, take one more, using your first mornings urine just to be sure.

Let us know what your results end up being + or -?

Maria asks…

When should I take a pregnancy test?
Had a period on 6-9 and 7-9 lh surge 8-8 a period on 8-19 and lh surge 9-10. Baby danced
during ovulation and period has not come yet. When should we test for most accurate results
and could I be preg?

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

If you’ve already missed your period….get out there and buy a test! Good luck! =)

                                                                                           5/6
