The children who were overweight and obese at reception age in 2011/2012 will now be
in year 3. According to NCMP 2011/2012 data the rates of obesity from reception age to
Year 6 doubles. This means that if a school showed that 10% of children were obese in
reception, it would be very likely that in year 6, 20% of children would be obese, this is a
worrying trend and one which My Sporting Chance hopes to reverse.

5. Programme Outcomes
 All children above the 95th percentile from all schools in Easington in yrs 4 and 5
(and their families) are signposted to the programme
 Parents/Carers are engaged to ensure high take up, adherence and programme
completion
 BMI is reduced and stabilised (for participating children and families).
 Participating children demonstrate improved physical development and a positive
increase in self-esteem/self-worth
 Formal links are established to wider community physical activity opportunities in
order that activity and changes in behaviour can be better sustained long term
 3 x 10-week programmes are successfully delivered each year (6 in total)
 Parents work towards a level 2 OCN accreditation in Understanding Nutrition,
Performance and Healthy Eating
 Establish links with local further education establishments to offer aspiring
coaches an opportunity to gain experience within the profession of coaching.

Effective Reporting.
Why?
• Detailed evidence of need. Wider media publicity detailing
the cost effects of rising obesity rates and rising sedentary
lifestyle on young people. Rates of childhood poverty
effecting children's opportunity to engage in social settings.

8. What?
• 10 Week Programme: 2 x 1hrs of physical activity sessions a
week for both parents and children. 1x 30 mins theory session.
• Parents Complete an OCN accredited level 2 qualification in
Nutrition performance and healthy eating
• Local Sports clubs are invited to lead children’s sessions.
• Fitness testing and measurements are recorded in weeks 1 and
10.
• Graduate Programme for families on completion the 10 weeks.
• Schools receive certificates and trophies for children who have
completed the course to celebrate their participation
