In 2009, NTT Docomo Japan started
taking QR Codes for commercial
consumer use.
How it works
A QR Code can store information in it.


A mobile user can “scan” the QR Code
using a QR Code scanner application
on his smartphone.


QR Code scanners are available for all
major phones.
Uses of QR Codes
A QR Code can be used to


   Share more information about a product

   Perform Social Media actions on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

   Register for an event

   Purchase a product

   Download media like songs, wallpapers, games

    When a person scans a QR Code, he is taken to a web page
    that allows the further action
Limitations
The previous approach is not the best user experience because
   You need a website for a QR Code
   • A person scanning the QR Code will be taken to existing
     website only, so you need a website first.

   Target web page may not be mobile-friendly
   • The page will take a large time to load and user will have to
     zoom inside the page.

   You need different QR Codes for different actions
   • You need separate QR Codes for Facebook likes, Twitter,
     follows, product information etc.
