Prophet Uebert Angel - Learning the Art of Great Public Speaking
1. Prophet Uebert Angel | Learning the Art of Great Public Speaking
Public speaking in front of an audience is something that quite naturally makes the vast
majority of us feel anxious or nervous. The idea of standing up in front of people and being the
centre of attention - whether the situation is a presentation at
work, a speech at a wedding or any other occasion where you
are required to address an audience - can inspire feelings of
fear in even the most confident of us.
However, as with any other skill, great public speaking is
something which can be learnt and practise really does make
perfect. Spending a little time figuring out the best ways in
which to get your message across - and rehearsing until you
know the material inside out - makes a huge difference.
While a thorough grasp of your material helps you to feel more confident and gives you the
knowledge to answer any unexpected questions outside the remit of your prepared speech, the
vast majority of our communication is actually non-verbal. Only 7% of any message we are
trying to convey gets across through the choice of words we use. More than half of all
communication comes from non-verbal elements such as gestures, facial expressions and
posture, while 38% comes from the way in which we speak or our tone of voice.
If you speak in a monotone while standing stiffly on the stage, it doesn’t matter how interesting
or exciting your actual subject matter happens to be – the audience will simply not engage, and
even those who are paying attention will find it difficult to identify what is actually important
in what you are saying and what is simply there to connect ideas.
Using notes can seem like a handy way in which to remind yourself of your subject matter and
the key points you wish to make, but in most cases it detracts from your presentation
technique. Making eye contact with the audience on a frequent basis is a vital part of successful
public speaking, so ditch the notes and spend more time practising instead.
Watching other great public speakers is a great way in which to figure out what sorts of speech
patterns, gestures and visual aids can work well when trying to motivate and engage your
audience. Try studying some videos of successful public speakers such as Prophet Uebert
Angel, who is known for addressing crowds in their thousands, and see what you can learn
from their enthusiasm and skill.
